When you thought you have seen all what is to see in DCS, this hits you right in the face. I don't care if the refuelling was edited, I applaud a brilliant idea behind this video. And you did line up to the basket while spinning, so that's really impressive. Hat's off to you sir!
It clearly was edited. First, there is no way you can control the aircraft while doing counter-clockwise circular spin being on the left side of the wing. Just think how could aicraft start doing counterclockwise movement with its bottom side first while trying to follow the refueling hose. Watch closely the trajectory of the hose spin and if you are accustomed to DCS, you know there is no way you can replicate that trajectory with any aircraft. The second thing why it is edited -- just look at wing lights. It's off when they record the falling tanker, and they are on when they shoot actual refueling with added background spin.
@Roadmen I wish you could elaborate how the F-18 is able to spin counter-clockwise with its bottom part first while staying in the same position relative to the spinning tanker. Complete bullshit.
From now on, every time someone new applies to my virtual wing and says that they can't do aerial refueling because it's too hard, I'm going to show them this video and say, "if this guy can do THIS, then you can man up and learn to do it in level flight."
Thanks for watching guys! This took way too many takes, but it was well worth it. I’d like to start making more like this, so if that’s something you guys want, I’d appreciate a sub! I’m hoping to eventually hit 1K subs :)

The KC spinning out like that after a burst of machinegun fire to its tail centerline and of course without any damage to major wing surfaces... that immediately sells it, but it's needed for narrative. And he most probably animated the background for the very docking shots to make his job easier. And just went straight down with both aircraft, no spinning to make it harder. @Vice Thanks for the support! I mentioned this in an earlier comment, but just to clarify what was edited, everything up until contact was completely real, but the issue I ran into is that when the tanker is shot down, the basket begins retracting - and it enters a state where you can’t actually interact with the basket. So even though I had landed the probe in the basket, it passed right through it instead of catching it - the only way I could finish the video was to green screen the scene where it’s taking fuel. Also with regards to the KC spinning after being shot, that’s actually the default AI at work there. You can test it out yourself, but in the current version of DCS, if the KC reaches a certain threshold of damage, it will automatically start spiralling counterclockwise out of the sky.
@@bravosix1611 It was cool nonetheless. Well done. What I though was funny was that the crew bailed out of the tanker. I don't think they carry parachutes in real life, haha.
