Which team member writes the channel comments? Is it Jake?
Dude this comment is 2 years late
Hi Corridor Crew! My name's Caroline, I'm the artist responsible for the fur and particles on all the bears in "His Dark Materials". I'm a big fan of your show, I'm so happy you showed these clips and glad you liked it. A big shout out to the Framestore team! We are all about the details. Thank you so much guys!

Stealth from 2005 would be a great example of a movie like that. The 'Collateral Damage Scene' on YT is a great mix of green screen, full cg, and miniatures. Still stands up till this day in my eyes.

Just like to remind everyone that Transformers lost the best visual effects Oscar to the Golden Compass...
That's absurd, the effects in Transformers still hold up really well.
023 Studios no matter what people think about michael bay and his penchant for making things explode for just about no reason you can’t take away just how visually impressive all the transformers movies have been, especially if you remember that the first one was made 13 years ago. It’s a trip to look back at how quickly things especially in VFX and computing have progressed and improved to what we have today.
Maybe at that time it was like EHHH this is a though choice.
Honestly, the first 3 transformers have crazy good effects even today. The movies themselves are not very good but the action scenes are incredible. Everything in Chicago in Dark of the Moon looks amazing and the action is really engaging
Benny Butler And yet Golden Compass is more forgettable
HBO Didn’t do his dark Materials they did distribution. They didn’t have anything to do with how it was created. It was done by the BBC and British television company Bad Wolf
Yeah, you can literally see the BBC watermark on some clips
I wish Corridor would credit the VFX studios more. The VFX in His Dark Materials were produced entirely by London studio Framestore, while the VFX in Game of Thrones were produced by many companies, the dragons by Image Engine and Pixomondo, and the zombie polar bear by Weta. But people move around so much in the VFX industry I'd imagine a lot of knowledge and tools are shared.
I think because they're doing a "react" series, they know very little going into these. It would be nice if they mention these things in the edit at least, though.
@@Mitchell3701 Giving credit to Framestore is correct, but they actually had several of their employees from all over the world work on the show, not just the London arm.
Wait, there's a British TV company called "Bad Wolf", owned by the BBC?
Geez, what's their CEO's name? Rose Tyler?
Beast Wars - Looking at it I recognised the textures from SoftImage 3D and the OpelGL renderer - MainFrame? Yes!!!
This was rendered in real time on SGI hardware. Very limited procedurals, minimal image textures, bump mapping and no shadows or reflections. But it was real time direct to D1 digital tape then edited like any other TV footage.
I don't know how I never noticed the lack of shadows before, but dang. I thought I remembered shots of it in having shadows but looking back, they're all really clever use of baked in shadows on the textures.

Because of your thoughts on ‘His Dark Materials’, I thought I’d check it out. I just finished watching it and wow. What a show. Along with the CGI being incredible, the show itself is brilliant. Constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat, wanting to watch the next episode straight away. Great acting and the animals were flawless. His Dark Materials' CGI was created by Framestore, the same studio behind the bears in The Golden Compass.

Wow they really made it their mission to prove themselves then
This actually makes a lot of sense, I still think the earlier polar bears were impressive for their time and with the tonnes of reference footage the BBC surely gave them to work from (from all their Frozen Planet footage) it would make for much more accurate representation. The Frozen Planet team got so close when they filmed the bears and with such high definition cameras that it had to have contributed in terms of detail!

I remember playing the golden compass game on my PS2 but I never knew what it was called and I lost the disk when my family moved so seeing it here is like a wave of nostalgia and it’s like a “oh it was real?”
is it just me or does anyone else get happy and excited when Jake pulls up wit da sponsored segments 😂😂😂
