  • In an interview with FRANCE 24, Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto hits back at claims of fraudulent use and mismanagement of EU funds. In November, Hungary agreed to pay a €1.6 billion penalty for alleged mismanagement of European funding. Meanwhile, The New York Times has published claims from a former Hungarian state secretary that PM Viktor Orban used Common Agricultural Policy money to enrich his family and friends. Szijjarto says his government is "ready for any kind of investigation" and claims the former state secretary has "personal" motives for speaking to the media.

That is because the ruling party is not the usual European dogmatic right wing, who scream and promise lower taxes, whose biggest interests is capitalism and globalism. Fidesz hold many referendums on important issues each year, and in many ways the people have much more to say in the policies of the country, at least that is obviously what the people feel otherwise they would not win the elections by a landslide. On the other hand the western EPP parties are in some sort of denial, only blaming the left for their own impotence.

Why are some countries benefiting with sanctions in place but not Hungary is the EU using passive aggressive measures to punish them because they are small and have tried to resist the unreasonable migrant quotas demanded of them? The facts seem to indicate an obvious bias and disproportionate benefit based on political alliances rather than a fair and common rule system.

Creds to Hungary for being able to navigate independently in politics. The reason why central europe is lacking behind west economically is because they´ve alway been forced to side with a greater power to their own disadvantage (ex. impose sanctions to RF while the west takes over the market shares they used to had before the sanctions and at the same time improving trade for themselves). This is unfair play.

They want the economic and financial benefits, but not play by common EU rules and standards. The US and Russians are more than pleased that populist politics are undermining EU unity. Neither want to see the EU succeed. Hungary, Poland and the UK are playing right into it. Europe is far more worthwhile than the current political whims and aspirations of the English, Polish and Hungarian governments. Politics and politicians change, Europe will prevail. In a few years time nobody will even remember this clown, Lukashenko and Orban will be gone and so will Boris Johnson and half of his cabinet of neo-liberals parading around as conservatives. However, they will have enriched themselves at the expense of their own countrymen and women and to the detriment of the EU. There is nothing brilliant or admirable to see here.
