No it wouldn't, a Jimny legally wouldn't even be allowed to tow a horse box, since its towing capacity is only 1300kg, compared to 3500kg of the defender.
A Jimmy is actually aloud to tow a horse box as a horse box like that probably weights 800kg or there about. So you can carry a pony and a horse box with the Jimmy but a horse might be pushing it a bit, unless you go for the smallest horse box available from ifor Williams by which point you might just about be able to tow a horse and trailer with the jimny.
The only thing Suzuki driver needs to remember is to change the M-oil, oil filters, air filter and brake pads while the LR driver needs to memorized several tow-trucks phones.

@Mr. Cairo in that Case you're very lucky, or you just have newer models, our 2001 discovery has had about 6 things wrong with it since we bought it a year ago, the repairs have cost the same amount we spent on the car (roughly £2500)
Morale of the story: If you make reversing a trailer into a garage part of a race, do some practicing before. That lost the Suzuki the whole competition...
I bought my 90 county hard top 14 years ago and it's the only car I've ever owned where I actually stand a real chance of getting back more or less what I paid for it.
Just like the old Defender you cannot buy a new Jimny anywhere in Europe now, maybe they should have compared their values too. I own both a 1996 Defender 90 and a 2020 110 First Edition, the new one might be detested by many but I can assure you it is a very very capable motor and maybe 5th Gear should have pitted one against the other two.
A tidy 1983 defender is still worth a fair bit at 37 years old don't see 10 years making much difference too the price. If anything when it's 40years old it's tax and mot exempt. The price will go up. As long as the chassis is good the age is almost irrelevant
Both cars are competent, its just a matter in how much you want to abuse/destroy your car . Therefore get the cheapest 4WD car that you can so you will not really care about its condition!
Have owned a Defender 90" Td5 and a new Jimny, both have pros and cons, off the showroom floor the old Defender is better offroad, downhill engine breaking in the Jimny is very poor, a lot worse than my mates old petrol SIII Land Rover and that is a lot heavier, suspension articulation on the defender is better and it is just a lot more robust, the Jimny is more civilised inside, a bit more economical and has air con! For heavy offroading it's the old Defender, for light offroading and lots of road use it's the Jimny.
As its a so-so vehicle --- someone tell me why older Defenders are so damn expensive...???!!! (The reversing into the garage bit was more about the driver's ability than the vehicle.)
Quietest Defender I’ve ever heard and I won one. And no rust, no leaks, no append tarnishing, after market seats, etc - not a typical s/h Defender!! But I still love them.
Yet again you show a challenge where the jimny is towing a trailer that it can't legally tow in the UK. This is irresponsible for a professional outfit.
In OZ, we put a wheat bag or a small tarpaulin across the front. Then drive through without stopping. The tarp pushes the water in front of the vehicle and prevents the water from coming up high enough to flood the electrics. The Jimny would have romped it in through the water. The reversing test was up to driver skills, not the vehicle. All in all, I think the Jimny acquitted itself quite well.
Let's face it, the Jimny isn't really meant to be all bashed up and abused. It's an entry level offroader but a damn good one. It can probably compete somewhere with the newer defender and new ford bronco. The old Defender really only has one true competetor and that was the one it was built to compete with. The Jeep.
