  • First broadcast in 2019, Series 28 of Fifth Gear is on CZcams for the first time! The Suzuki Jimny is a cheap and capable off-roader, a proper utilitarian vehicle. Since the production of the Defender ended in 2016 the Jimny has been in a market on its own. Now there’s a new Jimny and at £15,000 it’s around the same price as a good second-hand Defender. But which is best for your hard-earned? By working as farm vehicles we’ll find out which one is the most practical, capable off-road and well put together.

Suzuki has priced the Jimny at $28,500MT/30,000AT USD ($38,500/40,500CDN) here in Costa Rica. As good as the car is, in it's limited way, it's not worth that much. And yes, I'm aware of the high import duties imposed.

@@motorpolitan8884in off road? No. Hilux does not have the same performance as a jeep. Jimny is a jeep, its characteristics and chassis speak for themselves and its weight and HP ratio is great. Manual Jimny on off road doesn't owe anything to anyone. My son found this problem hauling his rack car in an 8.eX20 enclosed trailer with a Porsche Cayenne. The car's a great hauler, but too narrow to see behind the trailer. He compensated by installing a camera above the back door and relayed the feed to a console on the dash. That became his mirror.

Well that's more horses for courses then isn't it? Land rovers don't last out in hot dusty countries which is why you never see any in the outback here (or anywhere really far from civilisation either incase you breakdown). Rust is a problem on basically all ladder frame chassis vehicles though, and essentially all old vehicles in the UK due to winter salt gritting too, the land rover doesn't have any special protection that regard compared to other cars and anything you would do to protect it you could to to any other car too, so pretty moot point there. Saying its not worth it to weld a brand new suzuki or a 10 year old one even is also patently ridiculous, no less worth it then welding a 30 or 40 year old land rover, get over yourself mate, you sound absurd.
