If you haven't already figured it out by now: If Patches keeps striking the middle, then it won't ever do the purple crystal thingy that lets you hit it. And Patches will try to strike where you are, or where you're about to head to.

It lets you get to the record near the end of the zone, as well as access that little radio with a bit more lore.
