You're welcome :)
Stray is a game by BlueTwelve Studio and Annapurna, and its music is by Yann Van Der Cruyssen. Music in this video contains clips from the game music. If you are looking for them on the OST, you can find them within the tracks called "Inside the Walls", "Notebooks", "Antvillage" and "Daybreak". - Hry
the devs made a point to show him sniffing the air at the end no doubt he smelled his brothers & sisters......thanks for the time put into making this. You've made a lot of players happy. Me included.
I'm surprised he still has his sense of smell after going through the slums and the sewers.
@@areasevenpro he probably realised that

Cats do that just because. Clearly you've never owned one 🤣
I figured that was because he was enjoying the fresh air he missed
thank you for making me less depressed about the ending. cant believe math did something to make me happy😭
Fr, math has only ever brought me suffering 💀
idk I still hate maths, it sucks
@@trustyrusty6969 its not maths that sucks, it the school that can't teach properly
@@kirillheroes98 I highly agree with you and slightly disagree, while there are few casual schools who teach maths poorly, it's also maths which is very complicated, as we get promoted to next grade levels, it just becomes difficult, like if ur grade 7, it's tough and in grade 8 it's double than previous and grade 9 it's going to be rocket science maths
@@trustyrusty6969 the problem with math is that schools teach the fundamentals wrong. from day 1 on. math isn't something you can "understand" like a word. math is purely knowledge based and it doens't matter if you understand your knowledge or not. you just have to know how and when to use what you know. it will always be right if you use the right formula in the right situation. there is no x is all of a sudden not 3 but 5.
all you have to know about math is what the variables are and where you get the value of these variables including what formula gets used to get the searched value with the given varibales. you don't have to "understand" or even know WHY it works. you just have to accept that it is that way. the WHY in maths is only teached when you do math classes in the university. there are many things most people have no clue about that you can do in maths or that it is even part of maths like group theory or in a sense even parts of programming.
the thing that makes math so hard in school in grade 9 is that that is the point where you have to know everything you learned once in the years before and uses that knowledge as foundation for the harder stuff, but because school has it's tests and a really bad way of taking notes in notebooks it is normal for a student to forget the last subject within the week after the test about it because you never use the same formulas again until much much later.
the diffrentz between a math "genius" that can calculate big numbers in a second and a "normal" student who can't even calculate the small multiplication table fast, is that the "genius" has memorized the big multiplication table (until 100*100) by heard and knows about small algorithm that allows him to break down big calculations into small basic calculations in his head and recall the answer to the small calculation and then he works his way up until he recalls the last answer he needs and then he has the answer to the equation.
in china there are maths competitions where a few students stand on a stage and get told 100 3 digit numbers and they have to add them up in the head. the numbers get called out each second and won't be repeated. the one who get's it right or is the closest wins. and there are always some that get it right. something like that is unthinkable in western schools because we don't memorize the basics of maths to that degree and don't learn to train our mind to be able to use the short term memory that effective and in such a way.
Thank you for not making this a 20+ minute video. Like Stray, this video was "exactly what it needed to be".
ikr
One of my favorite parts of stray is how the game had the perfect amount of stuff, Nothing left out and no extra padding simply everything that was needed for a great game.
Two things:
1. B12, as far as we know, is the only being left that is aware of his humanity so the final moments where he shared his companionship with Stray is extra touching given that that might have been the final human/cat interaction in that world. Cat lovers will get an extra kick from that.
2. At the end, when Stray walks up the stairs and starts heading to the right, we see a flashing screen. This is similar to the time when we were guided to B12 by flashing lights. This strongly suggests that he's alive somehow through the network and technology.
This game was so good, I plan to recommend it to my co-worker who is currently dealing with a little kitten :)

Any follow up? Did you ever recommend this and/or did they ever play it? Would love to hear more.
In the beginning the door behind where they sleep also says control room access or something of the sort, so I figured they weren't far from home. This is so reassuring
Oh good point! I'd forgotten about that.
Yeah but in the game there are dozens of doors that say the same thing, it's just a texture that the game devs used again and again to save time
@@therealwisemysticaltree and there are 8 control rooms
@@jamesherald5389 but i don't think there's one in the sewers which is where one of the doors is
If the cat was smart enough to figure out how to open the city, it would have found its way home regardless. Cats have a built-in homing beacon and have been known to travel anywhere from 0.2 miles to as much as 80 miles to return to their home territory. Cats are notorious for returning to their old homes and trying to take up residence with the new occupants.
So, guaranteed the cat would have made it home.
The ending of the game is one thing, but it really made me emotional, how the other cats were desperately meowing when we fell from that pipe. Humans could start looking out for their friend, find a way down there and track down the person. These kitties are completely helpless, processing nothing but "he's gone, we don't know where he is, we might never see him again". To me, this meowing delivered so much emotion, even without words or faces, and maybe it was even sadder, when there was no meowing anymore after a period of unconsciousness. Them supposedly accepting the loss of their friend, with no options to do anything about it........ wonderful game.
I don't think I've seen a movie or game with more pull, than hearing those meows as you limp away to the nearby light, followed by the title "Dead City".
@@purplemnkydshwshr Yes, as a cat lover, whose beloved fuzzy friend lost his life on November 14th of last year, this was hitting me hard. I am only playing few games these days anymore, because only few kinds of content interest me - but as I randomly saw this game in a recent episode of Boundary Break, it was enough for me to buy and and despite being short, I was very pleased with what I got. Hopefully they'll make DLC or a whole sequel/prequel. But since it was very successful, I think we can hope they do. And it would be nice, if that game would integrate the cat buddies more.
Imagine scenes, where you need to evade the zurks, and you partially need to fight them, when they catch a buddy and you need to act quickly so that he doesn't die. Integrate a permadeath system (for the party) and that game would make me emotional no game before. When you fail to protect a friend and he will be gone for the reast of the playthrough, potentially adding various endings for which of your buddies makes it through the game with you. So many possibilities. Those ideas make me shiver in excitement for what could come.
The echoing meows of his buddys calling for him gets me every. Single. Time.
@@Hammerite Absolutely. Best animal emotions ever. Now try to imagine it from their perspective, their friend just gone and they hear his low and injured meows from a point far below, out of reach.
As someone, who lost his cat, when it was also meowing in agony and fear, this touches me deeply.
@@marcfuchs6938 I’m so sorry for your loss. I understand how much this hurts. God bless.❤
Stray is one of those rare games that comes along, seemingly out of nowhere, and is just absolutely mesmerizing. The story, the art, the characters... it reminded me of the power of a great game and why I love them. So many games these days are created to solely be a cash grab, but this one had heart. I really hope they make a sequel. Or expand upon other lives in this world they created. Like, what happened in other shelter city's across the world? Phenomenal game.

Orange tabbies are female only ~20% of the time. Just like calicos are nearly always female, orange tabbies are almost as frequently male.
@shadowboy813
ok? female tabbies still exist? I don't want to argue about the fictional cat's gender but found it weird that you felt the need to point that out lol
@@orangehi2323no, it's not weird at all. It IS truth. The fact the devs chose an orange tabby cat means it is a male cat just on the sole fact that most orange cats ARE male. @@orangehi2323 How is it weird to see someone referring to an orange tabby using she/her and use that as an opportunity to point out a fun fact? Doubt a cat would forget his friend? If hes really gone...we wont hint at the cat's hunt for STRAY 2. **SAID NO DEVELOPER EVER**
Something a lot of people forget about cats is how amazing they are at geography and directions, because most of the time owners never let them leave the house. If your cat ran away, odds are it still knows exactly how to get back.
When you move it's recommended to keep the cat inside for like 6 weeks to get them familiar with the new place. After I moved my cat slipped out in the early afternoon on like day 10~12. Didn't see her the rest of the afternoon. But right during dinner time, there she was again. Despite the environment and layout outside being completely unfamiliar to her.
Not my little idiot though, she slipped as we were about to move and I was freaking out for a whole day until I heard some cats outside my window, I went to check and there she was surrounded by other cats probably telling her to go home
At the end of the game i was like "eh, it's a cat, they'll find each other soon enough"
but this is much better.
also, this cat is clearly the smartest cat in existence, so yeah.
That’s impressive! The fact they had him go that direction as if they too had this map and knew some smart person out there would figure it out
It's almost like they designed a game world
Obviously they know. They probably have a map of the entire place because that's how game worlds are made
It’s really sweet they went with it instead of inter-splicing something compositionally appealing in place of what was really probable ❤

Just wanted to say, I love the neon sign editing and how ridiculously clear the visuals are. The videos, arrows and diagrams keep such clarity. Really well done imo
The montage of going back though intro showing how far you went in there, and how close it was to the exit made me cry with joy.
It's almost like this was part of the design or something. Considering how far they were going, Stray would have been to that entrance before, knowing exactly where to go.
After watching this video, I got curious and returned to the area where you start roaming around with the other cats. If you immediately look back and up towards the building, you'll see an arched structure that's possibly an overpass. I strongly think the passage into the city is up there
Edit: I also realized the butterfly you see in the beginning of the game also appears at the end. It has to be the same location
or it might be just a reused assets
Bruh
@@fajaradi1223 No the blue butterfly definitely has a stronger connection. Sure, it might be a reused asset, but we're thinking of the actual story and not dev nerding. And in games, especially stories, or folklore, blue butterflies are viewed as a sign of wishes being granted, joy, luck or even a person's essence/soul viewed in the past/present or future.
A blue butterfly in games tend to have a meaning when in full detail.
Look at life is strange, or even metroid dread. Blue butterflies leading the way or showing the future, or even to give you a sign of the past is extremely important.
And plus they wouldn’t just add a butterfly specifically two cutscenes with no reason. If they where more around i may agree with the other commenter, that it was a way to make ambience and so randomized.
@@fajaradi1223 no way. its definitely subtle hint for people who are observant enough. The devs know what they doing and put every little detail possible. The dev gonna be like "oh yeah lets put this butterfly here that looks like at the start of the game so people gonna discuss about it!" it keeps the game talked for long even after its completed. Keeps making people interested to it and people gonna keep making content for it to uncover its secrets.
Jesus I just finished this game and I cannot tell you how good this makes me feel about the ending now
Exactly the same as me 😄
Why? I just finished it. Did I miss something? 😅
I come back every now and again to rewatch this video for this exact reason. It gives me the closure I needed.
Knowing the fact that Stray will finally come home is so heartwarming
I have to take time to thank you, from the bottom of my heart for this video... I have been playing this game with my six year old daughter (we love cats), and the ending and the fate of B-12 really had us in some big feelings (both crying and trying to process these two things, as well as Clementine). This video served as a vehicle to enlighten my daughter to the wonders of mathematics, as well as ease the emotional pain of not knowing if Stray reunited with their family. You really did a great thing here, thank you very much for this video!!!
BTW, Clementine is seen at the end when the city opens, as she is alive and the sentinels drop to the ground. So she will likely be able to visit the outside she wanted to see. :)
@@coleiche yayy all my homies love clementine
This is such a sweet comment! I can imagine how distressing the ending could be for a child- I’m almost 30 and I’m clearly desperately searching for proof that Stray found his family.
This was the one thing about the ending that annoyed me. Because all the way through the game I was thinking "I hope we meet back up with the crew at the end" but we never do on screen. I do hope there's a stray 2 where we explore the outside world, see it alot more. Could even be with other cats/animals near other cities.
That (and the cat not being able to wear a poncho) was my only complaints about the game. We're led here for the entire game and it just ends practically as soon as the door opens.
They could call it “Strays”
Yeah since there's cats there must obviously be other animals, a sequel where you could switch between them would be amazing
I was hoping maybe if we had a second game, maybe it could be about finding the other cities because the control room says "walled city 99". Or exploring the rest of this one and finding possible survivors.
This is perfect, thank you for doing the most heartwarming maths possible. I can die happy.
The saddest part is the cats can't talk - so Stray can't tell his tribe about his adventures.
Where he's been, what has happened to him and what he did - all his story will remain untold to everyone.
Well, except for B-12 (who's now has other things to worry about), and us - who play this game and watch those videos on CZcams.
I could say - this is very symbolic. Many of us have a lot to tell - but we will not. Because nobody will believe anyway.
And nobody cares.
Daily routine is the alpha and omega of any society and everything, that is not the part of daily routine has zero value to majoryty of population - even families of those who's been somewhere, has seen and did something unordinary.
So your story is only yours. And, maybe even you will forget it someday... because it was long ago, and doesn't matter anymore...
One more time - i'm amazed, how deep the story of this game is.
Thank you for your input.
Being fair, I don't think the cat actually understands what happened... Only thing he can process is that its friend who helped it has died... I think that is the saddest part of the game, the Cat saved a city and its people and it doesn't know it, only thing it knows is that it has to keep going, trying to find home again...
Anyway, I wouldn't say that his adventure will be forgotten; pretty sure the robots will always remember the epic story of the Little Outsider who brought back the sun to their lives.
@@KRN02_92 well B-12 does translate what the robots are saying for Stray, either vocally or telepathically, so he acknowledges that Stray does have an exceptionally high level of understanding and intelligence. There's also the puzzles Stray has to complete along the way which would be much too difficult for cats from our world to do, and all the mini side quests he does which don't necessarily help us find a way out but do have a positive impact on the world around us. I think cats might've either developed a high level of intelligence through evolution, or through humans selectively breeding them. B-12 also says the pack Stray wears was designed for quadrupeds, so it's possible that cats were often used to help around the city. That might explain the bucket ziplines, which could've been installed to help them get to hard-to-reach places
@@_ra1n hard to say, I agree that the Cat is smarter than a real cat but we really can't say if this is actually the cat's intelligence or just our input as players. In the beginning all the kitties act normal and the cat couldnt even see that the pipe was breaking under their weight. It is possible that B12 was able to transmit insructions to the cat in a basic language... Also, remember that the robots had no idea what the cats is, pretty sure they never have seen an animal... And about the buckets, they are just a game mechanic that doesn't make sense like Castlevania's candles
@@KRN02_92 I like to think of it the other way round-the player's actions are the cat's, because while playing the game we _are_ the cat (or any character we play in games). Both points of view are valid though. Some robots did seem to know what a cat is while others didn't, which I think might either be due being old enough to remember when they were still around, or having more access to resources and information. As for the opening cutscene when they were all playing around, no matter how intelligent they are, cats will be cats. I think our cat either didn't spot that the pipe was bending and was too distracted by adventuring with his friends, or thought it could still take a little more weight and decided to chance it. Heck I barely noticed it was loose, and I'm human. Maybe that cat's smarter than me haha. Either way I'm not saying the cat's a genius by our standards, just that he's intelligent enough to understand the impact of his actions, and just how much he helped everyone that day. Even if it's only to leave me feeling a little happier
This makes me feel so much better! After finishing the game, I was so sad we didn’t get to see our little Stray reunited with their family.

@@MuffinHunterX When you played Dishonored, I'm not sure you want to name your car The Outsider. XD

That's "Lil' cat" ^^
Did anyone else noticed that at the end when the pov unfocused from the background and Stray, and instead focused on those screens that flickered? My theory is that it was B-12 and that he's still alive!!
There's alot of little nuggets all through that game. On one of the walls in the slums is a quote about Robots being slaves, but for the past 25 odd Billion days (i'm not writing the numbers) they've had souls" that would put the game almost 7 million yeas after the Companions were made, which is astounding that the doors even opened.
Yes, I saw the screens turn on and if nothing else is like one of those horror movie teasers for a sequel or something.
I was litterely crying for the rest of the day when I saw the ending scene after playing for 10 hours (not straight) and basicly building an emotional bond with this cat while playing i didn't see the little kitty reuniting with his family so thank you so much! ❤ 😭
This game made me cry I’ve no idea why but it was beautiful :) it had such a good balance of keeping you engaged and also a nice story telling even though there wasn’t much dialogue :)
Thank you for the analysis. I really hope they release a sequel with much longer play hours and story. This game is amazing. I'm already attached to the nameless cat and her/his friends.
@@idiot5637 well, key word is "almost". male cats do tend to wander away from groups and become nomads, finding unrelated females to then mate with. females, on the other hand, are more likely to stick together. our stray could be an unusual female ginger tabby, sticking together with her family!
but thats digging it a bit too deep, and honestly i agree w u that the devs probably intended for her to be a he

@@terrencevoltaris4271 Murtagh is the name of one of the Dev's real life cats that inspired the Stray protag. I do believe it was confirmed that the protag was a tom cat as well, or at the very least, the Devs like referring to him as male. This was incredibly heartwarming and beautiful to watch. Thank you so much for answering a question that I’ve been wondering about since I’ve finished this game!
Bro, I really needed this. I cried for so long and honestly felt so sad after the ending. Seeing this video honestly made me clear my mind and I can’t appreciate you enough. Thank You.
I wasn’t expecting to get so excited and happy seeing their home so close to the end.
This is exactly what I needed after finishing this game. Thank you.
You did a great job of this, well done! However, it still isn’t enough to stop my wife being angry at the devs for not actually showing a happy reunion 🤣
I sent this to my dad - a college math professor who doesn't care a bit about video games or cats - and he said you're "one of [his] people," so good show 😆 Thanks for this! I like narratives that leave things up for interpretation, but it's nice knowing there's a good chance our protagonist found their kitty friends again.

Nice one man! I can sleep well now knowing that he can go home by mere seconds ☺️☺️
enjoy your sleep! 😆
This is so reassuring and gives yet more appreciation to the care & attention the developer put into the game.
But here's hoping for a free DLC or mod that unlocks a new menu screen for players who finish the game just showing the cat sleeping, playing, and cuddling with their family while the panel lights blink on & off in the background to check on them...
I don’t think I can ever do that but thank you because now, every time I think about the ending, I will cry less
Family: "You disappeared yesterday, what happened?"
Orange cat: "You won't believe this"
In real life cats are really good at finding their way back home when they get lost…it would’ve been nice to see a reunion but I also like the open ending that Stray’s journey is just beginning, to find his way back to his family. Thanks for the video, the math and effort you took for mapping is really cool!
I like the "Who does this?" I'm glad someone does it. This should have more views.
Okay number one: the editing in this video is absolutely lovely- the little neon lines everywhere are just such a nice touch!
And two: as someone who has been dreaming about trying to build a 1-1 recreation on Stray’s map in Minecraft- the fact that you left the calculations for the size of the city in the video and even made a little map has me nearly jumping up and down in excitement- like omg if I can figure out how the fuck to convert that to meters I’m set
Update?
that would be such a cool project!!
This is why math is my favorite subject.
It got rid of my depression.
I like to think the reason they didn't do a reunited scene was due to either possible future DLC or a strait up sequel, seeing how well the game has done overall, it wouldn't be a bad move on there part. I'd buy it! :)
honestly if they made 98 other sequels for each of the other potential walled cities I'd happily buy and play every single one of them like 3 times lol
single player stories like these very rarely get dlc, but that's not to say that i wouldn't be willing to pay for one
What if they did like the day everyone moved underground stuff, going back in time and Stray gets left behind and has to escape it's home and meets it's cat friends, etc, etc seeing the world is empty.

I honestly never had doubts that our cat would find their home and friends again. Presumably they have done a lot of roaming around up there so they'd be pretty familiar with the territory above and around the city, so it shouldn't be that hard for the cat to figure out where they ended up and how to get home from there, even if it was further than that. Still, this is a cool bit of information to know! Very interesting that we apparently end the game so close to the beginning.
Add to that the amazing direction sense any cat has and (if he exits so near their usual spot) his noose and smell sense will send him pretty fast on track toward his beloved companions...
This video made me feel much better about the ending, i really wish they'd put just a little more at the end with stray re-uniting with his cat family. I'm so sad i actually cried at the ending with b-12 and stray snuggling up with their companion.

Yes! I needed this closure 😭 Since the game and its story only really take an hour to finish, I imagine his friends weren't too far away either.
If you finished it in an hour you didn't win the Productive Day trophy, which itself takes an hour of sleeping to achieve! You should go back and start again. You don't have to do it in one go. You can accumulate sleep time while Morusque plays his guitar, or next to the dozing stargazer on the rooftop, or on one of the shelves in Doc's library. The cat looks its most adorable when sleeping.

I would love a sequel where you see the robots expanding outside the city and they built monuments and statues for this messiah cat that gave them freedom.
This is the kind of closure I needed, thank you.
This video is perfection! Well thought out and beautifully edited. Thank you! ❤
I dont know why this video made me happy cry. Thank you for doing the little clip to make it look like Stray returned home!
Who else loves where a new game comes out and like 2 seconds later they want a second one
Same for me with Stray and Cult of the Lamb
thank you. From the bottom of my heart, I needed this
Genuinely thank you for all the effect put into this, it means a lot to a lot of the players and honestly I may have cried happy tears haha
Aww. That's so heart-warming!! You, my man earned a sub for all that hard work.
Thank you so much, this heals my heart a little bit!! You are awesome, keep it up!
Thank you so much, the ending made me cry, and I'm so glad that Stray makes its way back to its family ;w; we need more of them please
dude you don't know how much of a relieve this vid make me . . . . .
the ending been bugging me this whole time until i finish watching your vid . . . . .
This is that Outside Of The Box thinking that I need to see! I had my suspects that he returned home to his kin after the scene of him sniffing the air and it looked like he caught a familiar scent. But this video right here CONFIRMED that thought. Thank You So Much!! 💞💕
I love the editing in your video, how you integrated the game's soundtracks into the video and also how you created this map of the city. Your calculation of the distances and the exact location of the cat's home was just brilliant. simply a masterpiece.
wow... just wow, im now not depressed about the ending
I love you for this. Thank you. This brought a tear to my eye
The other thing about cats is that, even if the game itself didn't imply it, we need to assume that Stray (the cat) works the same as a cat in our world does. So, basically, unless if Stray has a magnet attached to them, they're not that far from where they started and they're going to be able to find their way home pretty quickly. Add to that their senses of smell and hearing, I'd give it maybe a couple days tops before they and the other cats got reunited (I'm just a cat geek, lol).
Bro I’m so happy I found this video just minutes after finishing this game. This made me unbelievably happy. I really appreciate the work you put into this. That’s a like and a sub for sure!
I'm actually pretty blown away by your work! 🤯
Nice job and it really makes sense!
Stray is the best game this year up until now.
Thank you for making this video. I kept thinking that it was a bit sad we didn't get to see Strays family ❤ This is what I needed to replay the game after finishing it on 23rd of July!
So cool the cat was always close to home. This makes it more happier
Dammit I cried when he got lost, cried again when I found out that he was most likely reunited with his family at the end. I've never been so emotionally tied to and impacted by a video game before.
Oh my gosh, I'm so happy I ran across this video. Thank you so much for this analysis!
Thanks for the heartwarming math I’m sobbing in tears🐈I hope stray haves a happy life with his family
thank you for putting my mind at ease when the game could not even spare time showing Stray getting back to his family!
This makes me so happy. I cried my way through the game, sobbing at times even. This truly warms my heart and I am unbelievably happy that you took the time to calculate/find out about this… :‘ )
My heart has been healed by your logic...thank you!
Thanks man. This was pure comfort for my heart. Your style and graphics to explain are cool too. God bless you.
Awesome vid. Superb work.
Here's hoping this gets enough traction to reach the devs, it would be nice to see if they would react to it and confirm the theory. I'm sure they would at least commend you for the amount of effort you put into it.
Very nice.
Thank you so much for this
Just stumbled across this Vid and it made my heart incredibly happy to see all these little details and imagine Stray was reunited with their family! That’s the happy ending we all wanted! Thank you! 🥰
I cannot believe how much that makes me feel better. That is so great!
