  • Millions of pounds are to be spent on boosting mental health support in school to help pupils recover from the challenges of the pandemic. However Suzanna Reid and Alastair Campbell challenge Nadine Dorries, the Mental Health Minister about a report which shows children aren't getting help quickly enough and that mental health hasn't been priority during the pandemic.

    Never been big fan of Campbell but he's a good fit on here and enjoyed watching him. It's like he's always presented it .

    I had depression at 8 years old when I lost my whole family. It was 1979 and I got totally let down by Britain and the social workers. Have we come any further?

      In the early 2000s there was a lot of mental health therapy’s and support slowly those therapy’s became non existent and staff became less and less, social care I haven’t got anything good to say other then there’s now a short term mental health social care that is actually very helpful.

    Thank you Alistair Campbell, mental health needs to be considered first and foremost now, covid deaths are just not happening in this country now, cases are different to deaths. Also get people out in the sun, exercising and fresh air, all imperative for health.
    I've not stopped hugging through this whole year and 2 months, nobody can tell me not to hug loved ones, or those in need of comforting, especially a bunch of politicians who do not care about us.

    Hugging was never illegal. It was against government guidelines, but not illegal. Personally, I love to hug and be hugged. Incidentally, there is a section of the Oxford English Dictionary entitled HOW to HUG.

    Really enjoying Alistair Campbell and Susanna Reid on GMB, they work well together. The questioning style is excellent, the best interviews I have seen on current affairs fora long time

    Keep an eye on these ministers now as they look away from the screen either to glance at prepared notes or are they receiving answers to the questions put to them. It seems to be those lesser MPS who crack under the pressure of being interviewed.

      That's a good point, zoom interviews are allowing people to be prepped live during interviews which hides their lack of knowledge

    4 weeks is lucky! People on adult mental health are lucky if they get treatment within 6 months you can be on a waiting list to get in the system for a long town. My town in harlow the mental health service gets 200 calls a day, one phone. Phone lines need upgrading building internet capabilities , the understanding of disability’s on mental health therapy’s

    Mental health has a certain stigma to it. Often people just need a bit of help to get over a temporary and often small problem. We all have problems and mini breakdowns from time to time. I know I do.

    Dorris comes across as someone who has no understanding of facts or empathy for mental health..she obviously dosent know it takes upto 8 weeks to get an appointment...it hasn't changed

    Mental health in schools won’t help the mental health as adults.. it’s underfunded and the funding gets given to local governments the funding often doesn’t go to increasing staff increasing therapy’s ect

    It was seeing piers on here that made me warm to him. He spoke so much sense and refused to be bullied by the PC brigade who try to control what society thinks or does if they disagree with them. Alistair Campbell may be a good alternative though......

    This governmentnis not serious about mental health. There was a crisis before covid. God help us all.
    The tories are ideologically against those eith mental illnesses. They seebthem as weak and a drain on resources cus they often need benefits snd don't work. They dont understsnf that billions could be sdded to the economy is they were supporting mentally ill people in the workplace, with businesses accomodating for conditions, such as schizophrenia and bipolar. These people are often highly creative but can't neceassrily work consistently. It is not hard to sort this out. They just don't wish to.

      @@Brokenscam I doubt it tbh, Starmer has been leader for an entire year, he's had plenty of time to set out his fision for the country, and instead he has spent it abstaining or voting with the government. I think Campbell would agree that Starmer's Labour is lacking in vision, and thus people voted for a party which did have a vision, albeit a very different one.

    Tribal politics means that the opposition are all liars where as the tribe supported by those saying this speak true...wrong! They are all politicians and by definition ALL behave the same within a structured culture of dividing the people [no division of people and one has a dictatorship] by definition for Conservative to appose Labour the country must be divided in political thought which returns M.P.s to a well paid job with perks and "flexible" expenses . The political wing of the I.R.A. finally joined the corrupt elite seeing a good standard of living ,they even went on strike for two years and got paid...could you do that in your job?

    Campbell worked as the "spin doctor" for Blair. Lets be honest now and ask ourselves what a spin doctor is. He or she is a person employed to distort political bad news into something that gives a bland or different interpretation of the actual truth , or what i prefer to call a LIAR !

      AND he battles depression every day. Writes books. Speaks perfect fluent french when giving interviews in France. An asset I would say. And before anyone calls me a liberal elite ( huh. Bozo and his coven are the elitists). I’m a daughter of a (dead) miner from the north east. Luckily. I was able to get a very good education and have the capacity of CRITICAL THINKING. I’m ashamed of how my home area has come across this last week. Uninformed, gaslit and believing the party owned by a few billionaires and millionaires are a friend of theirs. Have people forgotten who has been in power for the last 11 years. Causing most of their woes. Wake up sheeple. Never mind I will enjoy it when he crashes and burns and the Tory party will just kick him out. And then he’ll go off and make a fortune speaking his usual piffle. And won’t ever give another thought for the working classes !
