Why I Don't Recommend WeatherTech Mud flaps! - Review

  • I purchased a set of front mud flaps made by WeatherTech for my Jeep JLU to overcome the problem I experienced when I had to deal with cow crap for two weeks on the side of the Jeep.
The WeatherTech flaps are wider and longer than the other ones I have seen on the market and the price was also very reasonable. But, if I had to do it again, I don't think I would buy these.
If you buy them, make sure you order the one specific for your Jeep. If you have the Sport or Safari, the item is different than if you have Rubicon.
PS: I drove through some slush, see how these flaps performed on Instagram:

Re the screws' lengths - FWIW, I have installed WeatherTech mud flaps on my JS Sport a couple of weeks ago, both front and rear, and all screws were long enough for their respective purposes.

I think they use the five different fasteners to make it harder to steal???

I don't know--possibly. Either way, it makes the installation that much more difficult!! Thanks for watching!

You have to be living is some type of dystopian nightmare if people are stealing your mudflaps.

I love your videos but I had zero issues with the installation, I have to watch numerous videos for anything I install but this was super straight forward. Completed 4 in 45mins, Maybe it’s the vehicle type. I noticed the anchor type would change when the actual anchor point changed which makes sense.

You know I was very surprised as well. Generally I have used Weathertech in the past and their product justified the expense by being well made and well designed. I just did not have the same experience with these. As shows, there were a number of short comings. With respect to the anchor points, they modified two of the points but then not the rest. They likely could have simply modified the remaining two to make it all consistent==perhaps that would have caused the end price to go up, but I never expect Weathertech to be cheap anyhow-- In any event, I appreciate your comment and thank you for your good words.

@@Onward4x4 Thanks for the heads up on the hardware situation. Several times of putting different items together I've had this same issue. Seems to be the norm. I always keep a wide variety of different hardware on hand, but at times I still have to run to the hardware store because of a wrong size fastener or something left out all together.

I'd have given a 2 just for material. Shoot there's even a gap at the top for mud, snow, rocks to get behind.
Any luck on finding any holes where those pesky meeces got in? Now looks like a good time to find any Dime sized holes they can get in.
Looks like their calling for ""Possible"" 3" of snow, sleet & ice here in NC. If so the state's going to be shut down a few days.
    Looking forward to the update.
    ps
If yer worried about the paint getting scratched from rocks I'd look into a thick wrap. Seems a lot of people are doing wraps just for branch pinstriping.

I have a feeling that I let them pesky one in by bringing in the trash bag I had left outside and decided to put it inside to avoid attracting pests... That's what am guessing! The reason why I decided to have those flaps is really because at one point I came to a road filled with cow crap all over it and I failed to avoid a nice pile causing the crap to be thrown all over the side of the Jeep. I had to deal with crap on the side for quite a while until I was able to wash it all off... So, I figured, flaps would have prevented that to happen... :) Thanks for watching!!!

Well yer Not the only one that's had some unwanted hitchhikers @@Onward4x4 . LOL Oh I can only imagine a few miles down the trail & you start wondering about the smell. Ugghhh. Not sure how much the mudflaps will help. Especially with that gap at the top. Talk about an area that's going to be hard to clean out. Those aren't the only flaps that seem to have a gap in the same area.
Then again I'm wondering if it's a gap I'm seeing or just a shadow line I'm seeing.
Anyways looking forward to next vid. During these strange & whacky time's it's nice for those like me to have a little mental Escape. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
