Yes. Keep in mind LB said he was OUT if he didn’t get producers royalties and the arrangement rights that go with that title. Tusk may not have been a double album at the time either. It was a time of genius imo.

Christine McVie once said in an interview that after awhile Stevie Nicks began to believe her own hype. I liked Stevie Nicks, and in some ways still do, but after seeing that her countless photograph sessions (and selfies) were just rip-offs from the Boyd sisters during their modeling career in the late 60's and early 70's, I started to realize she wasn't unique at all and that it was all an act with the complete dedication to an image. In some interviews, Stevie Nicks talks about herself almost in the third person, as though the real woman is lost somewhere beneath the facade and the same old story-line. Imagine Stevie Nicks going through the drive-through at Taco Bell or something, singing her order into the machine, "Yes, I'll take a burrito supreme . . . and a side of pintos and cheese." This is what I thought about at the beginning of the vid, where we can't hear the music and Stevie is singing into the mic. :)
Stevie was very sweet and very compromising. I wonder if she left a lot of feelings in to just get along and since some knew more than she did she probably just complied. That's why Stevie probably ended up being a tough woman in the latter years. Hurt either toughens you up or makes you mean. Now I see videos were Stevie gets on Lindsey and tells him that's the way I want to do my music because it's my music. when you're your very innocent and naive people take advantage of you but what they don't know is they're toughening you up because you learn some good lessons from it and become stronger or you don't. Stevie became stronger and all the knowledge that she was given in the music business and in relationships is why she's so successful now and doesn't put up with crap. That's probably why she left and went solo.
The album Tusk was Lindsey's disillusionment with success, music business, and the overall direction of the band. In a word, he wanted out of Fleetwood Mac. He imposed his will knowing full well the band needed him more then he needed them (at that time). For the time, Tusk was a commercial failure not because of the album sales but because it didn't surpass the Rumours album, which is completely ironic because Lindsey knew that wasn't possible or realistic. For me, Tusk is my favorite FM album. The double album way ahead of its time.
It was impossible to surpass Rumors in sales. It's still one of the biggest selling records of all time. Tusk was a huge directional change. Overall it's a brilliant record.
Ronny K Marshall - absolutely. However, Tusk was sorta commercially doomed because of bad marketing strategies. For example, prior to its release, Westwood One Radio Network, played the album in its entirety. The event was advertised and hence “thousands” of copies were obtained (recorded) directly from the radio program. Second, the double album was quite expensive for its time. A better marketing strategy would have been to release it as a “two album set” ...one album at a time perhaps 6-8 months apart (Sorta like Tusk One & Tusk Two). In all, Tusk sold 4 million copies, which makes it a an overwhelming commercial success but falling short of “commercial” expectations.
@@stannis768 I don't think the radio bootleg event hurt too much, back then. I can't tell if you already know this, but as Fleetwood told Caillat (when pressed about the dubious market viability of a double album priced at ~$17.00 in 1979), "Imagine an album sleeve which can fit two discs, but only contains one, and sells for about the price of a single. Six months later, we release part II in a sleeve which can be inserted into the first, completing the package." IMO, that would've helped, a lot. This concept was thought of ahead of time, and could have been accomplished easily with the cache they had with Warner at that time. Why it wasn't followed through to completion is anybody's guess, and Tusk languished. In the end, flawed as it was in execution, it remains a great album nonetheless.
I gotta say this so reminds me of me with writing and recording. It's like I'll have written the entire song, lyrics/melody/harmonies/guitar chords, recorded it on a scratch track-- but once it leaves my hands to go into my bands to lay down the rest of the instrumentation tracks-- it's like I don't even exist anymore! It must have been very frustrating for Stevie working with Lindsey after the breakup--it's like when she went solo she was able to really have the freedom to do what she wanted.
ok.... Now I can see why Stevie wanted to go solo....she had her own idea or ideas on how the song should sound like. . and she really made a name for herself because she knew how the song should sound like and she wanted to be differnt from her band.....
That's for damn sure. Stevie has so many songs and having to just have a few on a record every so many years wasn't enough. "Bella Donna" was excellent. I love her solo work as much as her songs with the band.
Equestrian Sofia I agree. Every single time I’ve seen her interacting with a child (in footage), that’s exactly what I think. Stevie is just a natural with kids....and she undoubtedly would’ve made a fantastic mother..💞
1besieged ok ya know.... leave the snark at the door and get over it. That was 30+ years ago. Listen to the lyrics of “Sara” and tell me Stevie wasn’t heartbroken when she made the choice. It’s not our place to judge her. Enjoy the music or gtfo.
Amazing how just moments after sharing a real lovely moment with Stevie at the piano, Lindsey feels it's necessary to mock her in front of the other guys. I mean, this is the man who pined over her for more than a decade after she broke up with him. Imagine if he'd just treated her with respect, then maybe he wouldn't have lost her for good. The absolute lack of self-awareness on this man. Good on Stevie for knowing her boundaries.
Like others, I find this clip fascinating to watch Lindsey and Stevie interact. Without directly saying..or maybe she has, I don't know..but music is priority 1 in her life. And while on a personal or romantic level, she may not have any interest in Lindsey at this point, you can tell she looks at him for guidance and approval when it comes to her music. The respect she has for Lindsey as a musician and producer, still trumps whatever bitter feelings she has for him personally. I assume she maintained it throughout all these years until it didn't matter to her anymore, and Fleetwood Mac just became a touring band replaying the same hits she's long mastered. No more need Lindsey. That's my take from the clip.
@@zodspeed I agree. Lindsey’s value to her wasn’t always obvious but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. She relied on him to arrange and produce her songs in a way no one else was as good at (and that’s according to Stevie herself), as well as to provide genius guitar accompaniment and gorgeous harmonies. And don’t forget on eg the Mirage album, when Stevie was in the studio for a total of only TWO WEEKS out of the year it took to produce, Lindsey had to finish writing the snippets of lyrics she sent, and manipulate snatches of her vocal tracks so it sounded like one song. He’s a genius and she knows it.
Christine was never impressed with her songwriting because she needed Lindsey to "stretch" out her melodies. The band had to put a lot of work into her songs only for her to get all the credit. It's not Stevie's fault that the fans and press latched on to her charisma and voice. Lots of ego issues going around on both sides.
It's fascinating to see both the studio and dynamic in action. Yes, they were treating Stevie like dirt and Buckingham is a pompous ass...but when he and Stevie start singing together, you can see her smiling because she knows for that brief moment, it's heaven...until they stop.
They didn’t treat Stevie like dirt... she was out of her place trying to tell Lindsey how to produce a song. She can’t even play an instrument, Stevie is the one who listens to Lindsey, not vice versa.
This is so cool to watch the creation of a song in the studio; gee I wonder how old those little girls are now/ Is that Jackson Browne at the control board? ;-))
I love her speaking voice just as I love her singing voice

haunatedsong THANK you.....
Love you Stevie ❤️💕❤️
I love his voice! I even owned a solo cd by him.
I love his song Bang the Drums
Yes she was so gifted. Her voice and her songwriting. But you get a feeling she's taken for granted by the group and spoken down to.
No one has a voice like stivie
nice spit take at the beginning by Stevie..great footage
Yes
The “bye sweetie..” OMG 😭🥺
Who says this?
@@c.c.6930 pretty sure it’s Stevie at 1:49 to one of the little girls
@@kilee444 Mick's girls. Stevie should have had babies with LB.
I will never get over this.
Well Stevie I'm glad was not your last tour. Though you've lost Christine, Fleetwood Mac is still touring in 2013. How insane and wonderful :)
2:53 yep that sounds very good.
It's fascinating to see both the studio and dynamic in action. Yes, they were treating Stevie like dirt and Buckingham is a pompous ass...but when he and Stevie start singing together, you can see her smiling because she knows for that brief moment, it's heaven...until they stop.
The Live on stage version of this song is DYNOMITE --- My ALL TIME FAVORITE IN THE WORLD..!!!
Baphomets Lounge NSSWorld all the comments about them treating Stevie like dirt I didn't see that at all
zz it’s the condescending comments/ tone they use with her
They didn’t treat Stevie like dirt... she was out of her place trying to tell Lindsey how to produce a song. She can’t even play an instrument, Stevie is the one who listens to Lindsey, not vice versa.
You see it as well @@hazelbeckman4576, it's a pity the other's don't as it's thinly veiled but quite apparent.
I love ya'll! I miss Christine!
That first a capella vocal is the one they went with.
No, it's Ken Caillat the producer at the soundboard.
MICK WITH HIS CHILDREN MADE ME SO SOFT OOF
Have to watch this at least once every 5 years apart
Only two more years
This is so cool to watch the creation of a song in the studio; gee I wonder how old those little girls are now/ Is that Jackson Browne at the control board? ;-))
..anyone else notice Christine MV snarky comment "angels.."..?
hhmmm
wow- Soul-Killing comments.
So glad the Art goes on.
Pretty bitchy.
I think they all got tired of each other. Too many shenanigans. Too much drama,
Yes - Not cool! She could out sing them all back then! Toward the end, LB turns his back to her as she's explaining the Mills Bros comparison.
utbabee YEAH - (just reviewing) !! None of them showed Stevie the RESPECT she deserved! (RUDE - I hate ppl like that)....STILL SHE RISES!
excellent achapella!
When they brought out the guitar and i heard the strumming i cried wtf
