- What exactly is the plan at running back for the New York Jets? Breece Hall is obviously the lead horse and behind him we have 5th rounder from last year Izzy Abanikanda, as well as 2 rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. They also signed Tarik Cohen as well. So far throught Vol ota's, Braelon Allen and Davis have been flat out awesome!

I'm still surprised Braelon fell that far. The kid only turned 20 this year, and was one of the better backs in the country these past couple of years in Wisconsin. Could have a 3-headed monster with Hall, Allen and Izzy, that would be fun. I hope Cohen is healthy enough to contribute for you guys on 3rd down or even as a returner, I remember the days that he was ELECTRIC in Chicago!
Izzy sucks that's why we drafted 2 running backs. All he has is speed if he gets touched by a finger he's going down

With Christian Mccaffrey getting $19M from San Francisco, developing depth at RB is a really good idea. The draft class of 2022 could cost way over $100 million to sign long term, you never know who might be the odd man out.
Watched Coen play when I lived in Chicago. He is extremely quick, and hard to stop. B Allen needs to explode through holes, do not dance around like you are Coen. HAMMER!
I really like this Braelon Allen pick for the Jets. I’m not to keen on college players so the draft is a crapshoot to me, but oh man does he look ready to mow down defenses. Breece lighting and Braelon thunder can be a nice 1/2 punch when the season gets rollin
Ultimately I see us carrying Breece, Braelon and Davis.
Cohen may be kept on the roster for specials as well while being able to see maybe 3-5 touches a game. Unfortunate to waste a pick on Izzy if he’s gone, I think we changed our identity over the offseason and Allen and Davis fit the mold of a power running game that we want. Both are great compliments to breece
You don’t know if Cohen is going to ready to start the season. Plus he a lot of injuries in his career. I think JD is going to keep four RB on the roster one on the practice squad.
They didn’t bring him in to be a starting running back they brought him to be a returner and possibly a third down back

I would love to see the jets keep all of them knowing we have a huge rep of the injury bug. But with Cohen and Izzy. These are two guys who want to play and prove they belong. It’s hard to cut good talent but we want the better man to help us win games.
It’s a long season lol. I’m pretty sure all 4 of our guys will get touches at some point. By week 12 our 4th rb will be getting some love! Rb is an injury prone position. Good thing we got 4 beast!

I think Izzy might be going, it stinks but at the end of the day its a business. THanks for the show.
I think we will reap the benefits of investing in our running back room. We should have the best or at least a top 3 rb room! It’s funny how some teams rarely draft running backs, and we draft atleast 1 a yr!!
Question is also what do the RBs do on special teams. Think Breece and Braelon Allen are assured a spot. But the others will need to have special teams roles or risk will be deactivated or cut (practice squad).
Looking back... was michael Carter that bad ? What the heck happened that they cut him last year? That being said I am SO amped for our runningback back room, it is my favorite position and I think Allen could be a sleeper ROY candidate for us.

Great analysis Ian. And I think you touched on it with the jets dressing 4 RBs, mainly because of the new kickoff rules. I also think that’s why they brought in Tarik Cohen to basically see who is going to be the best at returning under the new rules, and the Jets’ strategies. Maybe also why the Jets stacked the room further with the 2 picks in the draft. Not fully familiar with those rules, I listened to a bunch of podcast episodes last night and many think it will be a system which benefits an RB that can find the creases and elude tackles. The new kickoff rules may be crazy. Think about it, and I may be off on some of this - all the defense lined up at the receiving 40 (and can’t cross til ball is caught or hits ground), 9 receiving players/blockers at the 30-35. 1-2 receivers between the goal and own 20. If that receiver breaks thru his own 40, where the line of defense is, only the kicker is in the way to the end zone. Schemes and strategies and the right personnel to execute. I think some teams might crack the code and score some points, hopefully the Jets are one of ‘em. Can’t wait.

Cohen gets cut or Izzy gets stashed on the practice squad , that's the only solutions unless we trade someone which most likely would be Izzy
The one to be cut will be Nick Bawden. Braelon Allen is the size to be the starting fullback.
Sometimes, it just doesn't work out. Not every pick is going to hit, that's why you gotta keep taking swings each year
I just personally dont see a scenario where we DONT keep 4 rbs. I personalky think its a lock. Izzy & Cohen will battle it out for the RB 4 position. That one may need to show off return ability to pull ahead of the other. But i dont see a scenario personally where we cut both Izzy and Cohen. One will be here with Breece, Davis, and Allen.

I think Izzy just hasn't panned out. YET. We've had a few other guys flash. Bam Knight,. James Robinson. MC. For whatever reason, outside Breece the room hasn't stabilized. I think the theory was two speed guys and two bruisers. Tony D is pretty respected so I think we're in good shape. (I'm cheering for Izzy tho, he's from Brooklyn)

I think Jets decided to bet on YAC being an important metric this year, especially with the new kick off rules. if i remember right, Izzy didn't score well there, at least it seemed like a lot of his big runs were with little contact.
I believe it’s game of thrones when it come to RB with the Jets, it happens every year and I would not be shocked if the Jets draft and bring in free agents next year

If Izzy seems like the odd man out, then the Jets need to shop around and try to get a future draft piece at the very least.
JD was able to pick up 2 quality RB's one year later, he is no fortune teller, and no foresight is needed, he saw an opportunity and took advantage of it, so now we have a surplus, a very good problem to have, we Jet fans should get used to this, there will be other players in the future that may get the ax, that we may not like, or agree with, but if our team continues to draft well, their player decision will be based on quality as opposed to need.

Davis can be fullback....i would preferred Brenden Rice over 2nd RB in draft...JD lucked out with Breece Hall. We lost an asset by drafting 2 RBs

I don’t think Izzy needs to be taking reps rn, he’s had a year with the offense. This is all install currently, seeing how the rookies can handle the info overload. Maybe Izzy does end up getting benched, but I’m not viewing his limited reps right now as a sign he’s going to be cut
Who says that 1 of the RB could be cut. How about 1 if the UDFA WR. The Jets for years kept a special team only DB on the team, so hiw about a RB.

You gotta stop falling in love with players just bc we drafted them. If the team doesn't think they're good enough to be on the 53 then you don't just hold onto them bc you drafted them. That's a losers mentality. It's been our mentality bc we've been losers. Best players play. PERIOD
