Apparently she hadn't planned a second series..but the cast and the viewers were so taken back by the brilliance of it she wrote a second..glad she did as all characters were sorted out..plus some great cameo actors of that time too..I must have watched these over 10 times each and still it makes me smile :)
I think the beauty of this show is absolutely it's wonderful writing. I think she perfectly captured the wonderfully weird idiosyncrasies of day to day folk...anyone who has worked in retail or any sort of people-facing job can tell you how spot on she was with this. Timeless series that's lost none of it's charm in 20+ years.
the fact that at 6 years old i was listening to this on my mp3 player that my dad put the sound on and now at 15 i can quote the entire show word for word, my family and i are always making references and quoting this
Beautifully observed sitcom. I worked with my dear mum in a factory canteen when I first left catering college in the 80s all these charecters were there. Secretaries from the offices, maintenence men the young dizzy girl and the 2 pepper pots as the pythons used to call them. Fantastically funny. R. I. P. Victoria Wood thank you for the beautiful funny legacy you left us xx
I have seen the outtakes, now I am watching the series. Hysterical, I love it. Great pick me up, as I going through so much upheaval right now. Love seeing the ladies from Corrie. Thank you. ❤️🤣🤣🤣😊🌞🧡
Words can’t describe Victoria Wood’s talent. She is totally amazing. I have everything on dvd and watch so many times. I never get tired of watching a great loss x
Victoria Wood had the genius touch of turning an everyday word or phrase into comedy gold. Real talent, and much missed. dinnerladies mixed a wonderful script with a talented and entertaining cast.
My Dad wasn't a Desert Rat, but this programme is an utter delight! A brilliant cast, performing flawlessly a work of the purest genius! This will never get old! Thanks for uploading.
The thing that made Victoria Wood a great comedienne and writer was that she gave the laughs to everybody. Dinnerladies is one of her best. I know she didn’t like to repeat things as such, but she was right to do a second series. R.I.P you legend.
R.I.P Victoria Wood. I have watched this so many times even though I'm only 16. I used to watch this with my nan and it brings back so many memories. whilst most other people my age are watching things like the walking dead, I find comfort in this programme and I watch them all over and over again.
did you know there was a spin-off with just Dolly and Jean? it never got picked up as a series tho. and i hope you've watched Acorn Antiques, too, with a lot of this cast in it?
I still miss Victoria. This series was an absolute gem. It hit all the right notes and gave every cast member a chance to shine. The sections where there are three conversations going on at the same time just shows how skilled she was as a writer. Despite all the characters talking over each other (and everyone going off on their own random tangents), you never lose track of the conversation.
R.I.P Victoria Wood I will miss you so much, seriously I loved you, you were amazing and a lot of people will agree with me. Age 62 is absolutely nothing, can't believe it, it's so soon 😢 I'm now going back and watching Dinnerladies all over again 😢😢😢
R.I.P. Victoria. You were a very talented writer/ comedian/actress. Anything you did just turned to pure gold in my estimation. You are very sorely missed.
Reminds me of our Dinner Ladies at Coedpoeth School in Wales. For pudding:- Rice Pudding, Semolina, or worst of all, Sago. Our joke was, "How do you start a Rice Pudding Race?" Answer, "Sago" (Say Go.) 😋
Please don't ever take this off here. I absolutely love this. It really cheers me up. I love you so much for putting this on here. You are a wonderful person. Thank you.
+Carl Sixsmith She was that and more. My sister told me yesterday that she had died. What a bloody awful shame. She was as you say, an amazing talent. Cheers.
Working my way through the whole Dinner Ladies series, thanks for the amazing laughs Victoria, you will always be remembered, because you shared your awesome talent with us all, and made us use our 'chuckle muscles' ... R.I.P. Victoria Wood :( Thanks for sharing on here @DinnerLadiesHQ
The pride of Prestwich. Gone too soon. Her brilliant, comedy legacy lives on. And it doesn't age. RIP Victoria. No violence. No nudity. No swearing. You see, it is possible
Prestwich is very proud of Victoria Wood as she was born there. There is a fantastic mural of her near the Heaton Park tram stop. However, she moved to Bury a couple of miles further north as a baby and grew up there. There is a statue of her in Bury.
Victoria Wood was brilliant at writing about people's weird and wonderful ways. A huge loss. She and Julie Walters were a brilliant team. Love Celia Imrie too. Acorn Antiques bring that on please
Weird and wonderful ways, but can I add beautifully ordinary ways? That's what I like about her. Bren loves her ordinary life that many of us struggle to rise above. I find that inspiring. She's not a climber. She is who she is, and that's what's most important.
This is such great writing! When I think of Victoria Wood, this is what I keep coming back to. I think I need to watch the whole lot now. I'm so upset by her death, at the much too young age of 62. Imagine how much more she could have given us if she had lived longer. Genuinely gutted.
Victoria Wood Thank you for all the laughs and memorable moments you have created and forged within us you were and are a humble Lady who deserved a award for all that you have done the cast in which you had were second to none and you all blended so well you may of left us but you will never leave our hearts Rip Victoria you will never be forgotten a Comedy icon taken far to soon
That was poetic! Yes, a tough year for deaths, irrc, but this was the worst for me. So glad she did (hopefully) everything she wanted to, leaving so much for so many. Let's hope the BBC show her work more often!
Oh Victoria, I only just thought about watching you on this show once again a few days back, now here Iam knowing you're no more with us. How Ive loved you through your comedy, ill always remember you through this show. love from India. God bless your beautiful soul!!!
I've watched my box set so many times but still laugh every time. And now I'm watching on my lunch break, love when jean can't help laughing when she says she should have cleaned the freezer out more, for a pilot episode it was comedy from start to finish. (Normans crusty bloomers)
@@nicolepowell5470 they usually are shown (as the 1st episode, sometimes with changes) if the series is commissioned, but this would have been commissioned as a series. But your point stands, it was a really strong opener, and the live audience feedback would have been important for Victoria. She wanted it to be like 'Cheers', apparently.
It’s the best. It’s just the right mix of what it is like to be in a work environment. What brilliant writing by Victoria. The only thing that I want correct is that Jim Dale came down the stairs on a hospital trolly in Carry on Again Doctor. Love this series watch over and over again
Sounds mad but I want to hug every single person who is saying RIP right now, not just for them but for me. I know how they feel, I am so raw with sadness about her passing. Rest in peace Victoria, you beautiful soul. xx
Although it was some time ago now (April 2016) I will post an R.I.P.for Victoria, and love and warm feelings to Geoffrey,Grace and Henry.Victoria sent laughter and love out into the world, and as we can tap into that(to replenish ourselves) we should be so grateful.
OK! I love BBC comedy, and this is my first time seeing this. I admit, my Yankee ears had a hard time deciphering the language, but I couldn't get away from it. Just thier expressions alone cracked me up!
I love BBC! So much better than American tv by far. Just stated watching this series. It is one of the best I'be ever watched. Then saw all these sad comments. Too sad! Want to see all the series timeless.
Who imagined how immensely talented Thelma Barlow was till she got a Victoria Wood script to work with. All those years in Coronation Street were great but the scriptwriters didn't really give her talent a chance to shine like this.
As popular as she was, Victoria was still massively underrated. Her writing here is up there with Shakespeare or Oscar Wilde. "I was in Beirut with Mandy Rice Davis, I understand entertainment.." Utter genius...
“I’ve no problem with Delilah. It was just Tom jones squatting on the front cover of the TV Times in those swimming trunks”! There are so many British / northern cultural references in every single line- no wonder it took so much dedication and hours of writing. The results, of course, are unrivalled. Genius.
“I wanted trailing greenery for the reception, but Keith’s anti-ivy.” “I didnt know he had an auntie Ivy.” I can see I’m going to have to watch this show very carefully so I don’t miss gems like that.
I find watching this that I've just come in on a load of inside jokes, of which I'm not a part. However, I do like the bits I do understand and the characters are priceless!!
What's great about this show is that actors smiling and laughing at the jokes that other actors are making, or even their own lines, isn't cause for a cut. Look at how many times Victoria Wood is just genuinely cracking up in this episode, but it works since it's just Bren laughing

I agree. I so want to have written it.
We're all just as boring as everyone else, yet Victoria Wood shows how collectively we create an amazing dynamic!! Genius😂
No matter how many times you watch, Victoria Wood's writing was sublime.
the fact that at 6 years old i was listening to this on my mp3 player that my dad put the sound on and now at 15 i can quote the entire show word for word, my family and i are always making references and quoting this
The finest ensemble acting in the history of British television!
Just what I need right now, comfort television at its best
“Bren are you on your own?”
“Yeah I’m just with Jean.”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This will forever be my favourite tv programme 🩷
I do hope Victoria knew how much pleasure she gave. Dinner ladies is one of my absolute favourites xx
Yes, it reminds me of Victoria Wood Marlene at school dinners and Jean Edward Cutsem as big boss from Sheffield coming to visit. Happy days 🙂🫶
“Like a lot of very well dressed people he was gay.”😂😂
Victoria Wood was a class act, a master. I come back to this sitcom regularly. Very underrated.
Beautifully observed sitcom. I worked with my dear mum in a factory canteen when I first left catering college in the 80s all these charecters were there. I used to watch this with my mum.. Happy memories 💕 R.I.P Victoria, you were a comic genius xxx
Victoria Wood was just simply a lovely human being, absolutely adorable. She died too young, too early; RIP.
Brilliant British comedy. Best in the world. Thank you so much for these.

Only Victoria wood could make everyday life hilarious. And the way they have multiple conversations is so clever. R i p Victoria

So brilliant, writing, acting and absolutely delightful to watch.

It needed a second series because the story didn't end in the first one
Superb
I used to work in a takeaway shop, now I work in a school canteen. Dinnerladies is spot on. Loved it back then. Love it now. ❤

It's a comforting sort of programme.
May she rest in peace
I watched this when I was a teen and I still watch it now. Never once gotten bored of it.

I have probably watched dinnerladies from start to finish at least 20 times and I've come to learn every year older I get, the more like Tony I become
R.I.P Victoria Wood

How I miss her. Her next dream was to write a real cinema movie - how awesome that would have been! RIP, Ms. Wood - and thanks for the memories! ❤❤❤
