Until Windows 7, we had to rely upon third-party tools to capture current window or screen snapshot called screenshots, but with Windows 8 and Windows 10, taking screenshots isn’t an issue. To capture the whole screen at once, you need to just press Windows Key + PrintScreen or Windows Key + Fn + PrintScreen key combination on the keyboard. While capturing screenshots, your laptop dims, and then you can find the screenshot captured in the Screenshots folder under the Pictures library.
But what if you press the above-mentioned keyboard combinations, Windows captures the screenshot, but it is not being saved. This will, of course, disappoint you, but if it is really important, you can just open Paint (native image editor in Windows) and press Ctrl + V (paste), you’ll now see the captured screenshot inside Paint in editing mode - which you can save as an image in your desired format. Anyway, let’s stick to the topic and find out how to fix the issue, so that Windows can save the screenshots directly inside the Pictures library.
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung). - Věda a technologie
This immediately resolved my issue. I could see in the regedit that the path had been changed to a thumbdrive which was rarely plugged into my compute. I vaguely remember trying to mess with where screenshots were saved sometime ago and must have made the rather boneheaded change. Searched a bunch of forums before finding your quick and instant resolution. Thanks!
After HOURS spent researching this problem online, I finally discovered the easy, straightforward, clearly explained ONE-STEP FIX of your video - and IT WORKED! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much. I have been trying to fix this problem for over 1 year. I will definitely spread the word and I will DEFINITELY also contribute.
Glad it helped
Thanks so much! Helped me to get all screenshots auto-saved again :)
Glad it helped!
Are you also able to recover your previous screenshots that was not saved before?
@@eunicebernante same question :/
@@nitinwadekar5495 i think we can't anymore :( I've been asking and searching in the internet how but there is none.
Seriously ! This person solves all the problems ,thanks .
Worked a charm! I have spent so much time trying to figure that out! Thank you
You're welcome!
its hard to find short accurate videos that get straight to the point. you are a god send
Glad I could help
Press windows key+E then in the address bar type shell:screenshots to locate the folder.
Thanks a lot.. This helped rather than the video

@@Chicken12Salad you got bigger problems then finding the screenshots my friend 😁😂😂😂😂
@@Chicken12Salad its smilar to the one you got up there in your browser.. the one where right side has search box
Thankyou so much it worked very well, I tried to change the screenshots destination to another folder and I lost the screenshots folder entirely, did what you said added "screenshots" to the registry and a new screenshots folder turned up after a re-start, and now they are saved in the screenshots folder and the clipboard at the same time lol
Wow! This helped me with my problem! Thank you that this video is short yet easy to follow.
Hello, thanks for the help. May I ask, where can i delete the unsaved/not seen screenshots? like before it was fixed, i was doing prtscreen, so i was wondering if those are also saved somewhere and can be deleted. pls help me.. thank you so much
I had to adjust my playback speed cause I couldn't keep up to you lol Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! I've been searching the solution for days. I was trying to clear up space on my C Drive and that's when I moved my screenshots to D Drive in a messy folder. I didn't think that the directory(?) would also change with it. Thanks again.
I followed your steps carefully and perfectly but I still cant see my screenshots... I really need to see my screenshots since Im having classes and I cant take notes fast
same lol.. have u found a solution yet?
even after doing the entire process mentioned above, still i am not able to print screen by pressing the button
Thanks so much for the tutorial man! everything worked well ... maybe some of you guys will have the Windows Key + PrintScreen (not working) but restarting your device might fix it as i did ... also you don't need to copy this path (%USERPROFILE%\Pictures\Screenshots) and paste it onto the value data ... Just Copy Path the folder you need to save the screenshots in by pressing Hold Shift + Right Click on the folder and you will have the copy path option and just paste it in the value data and remember to remove the quotes after pasting.
Thank you so much for this! :D
Great, this worked! I had the DWORD entry, but it pointed to a different drive & directory, so they didn't save.
Guess this folder is also where you edit the other user folders. Great.
Glad it helped!
I can't get the rest of the video after right click for new folder, string value. and which file did you paste in that.
I followed your steps perfectly but I can't find my screenshot on any folder. Am I missing something?
Your folder may not be in the correct place
just press the windows and PrtSc then check your file and click picture then you will see your screenshot
@@leazea-sh5cithank youuuu soooo muchhhhhhh ☺️☺️☺️☺️
So this is certainly a solution to direct where the images go when you click Windows+PrtSc but how do you change where the images go when you just click PrtSc as this is defaulting to a separate folder altogether?
Thanks MD works 100% Highly recomended .Catch you on the next one
Glad to hear it
thanks it worked, but can you change the key combination so it captures with different keys like alt+f2?
Yesss!!! It worked!! I had to remember to hit windows + PrtSc instead of control. Once followed this tutorial and did that it worked!! Thank you so much!
Thank you! You helped me regain the screenshot function!!! 💕
You're welcome!
@@MDTechVideos how to do it ? windows+shift+s ? right?
Thanks so much bro, was actually thinking there was a serious problem with my PC
Omg thank you so much! I had my screenshots saving to my dropbox and I wanted to save that space for other things. I kept pressing prt screen and it kept saving to it so I just deleted it and did it again and this time clicked the window key and prt scr and it worked. Bless. I learn new things every day thanks to the internet ahaha
Glad I could help!
Wow thank you! I've been trying to fix this for literally 3 months and you were the only one with the correct answer.
Somehow my screenshots got switched over to a USB drive that I was importing from, that was only plugged in once.
THANK YOU!
Glad it helped
Duuuude! Thank you so much, this worked for me! Appreciate it
You're welcome!
in my case, I accidentally deleted the Screenshots folder. because right now any picture I screenshotted won't appear in the folder at all. any idea how can I make the folder function back normally?
Hi, I followed all the steps but my screenshot images are still not saved in that folder, instead it goes to the folder:C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\TempState, any ideas how to fix this?
I have done what you told in the video and restarted the computer too but what to do now?
When I'm taking screenshot ( window key + prnt screen) and then opening windows explorer and then in picture library no screenshot folder is created and no screenshot is saved in the pictures library...
pls help...
Thx very much dude! This fixed the issue.
Mine was saving in the wrong location in a L: drive or something that doesn't even exist in my PC. Now it's saving in Pictures as it should.
Glad it helped
@@MDTechVideos I second this thanks, you're my hero. I was having the same issue of it accidentally getting set to my external. After an hour of frustration, this was so easy!
when you click cntr alt mas printscren you have to go to paitn , then past it, or its just saven automatically one you do a printscreen?
THANKS YOU SO MUCH! In some days a new space card whatever it is called, ssd, is arriving and I want to transfer everything there. The screenshots where saving in a random place and I wanted to save them to a custom made folder. This is the only helpful tutorial.
Glad I could help
Extremely helpful! Thankyou so much for this, in my case the path got changed somehow.

Thank you for the video. The screenshots I took yesterday now appear in the folder. I don't know how you did it but once again thank you
Excellent answer, worked perfectly for me. Many thanks Frank

Hey, so whenever i take a screenshot, this folder "Screenshots logo looks ike the logo registry editor and when i click it, this says "Adding information can unintentionally change or delete values and cause components to stop working correctly. If you do not trust the source of this information in C:/Users/Joe/Pictures/Screenshots/Screenshots.reg, do not add it to the registry" what do i do?
Pls reply! Because i have already value data should i change it?
Hi, may I ask why the screenshot is not being saved? Before this my new laptop functions well by automatically directly saved to screenshot file.
You are true expert of Windows. It is now 7th time that I am fixing anything in Windows 10.
You're welcome!
Thank you very much...... It"s working..You are a genious..😊👌❤
at minute 2:31 you say "paste this in" as if I am supposed to pull out those values out of magic hat... the same as well with the value data. Where do I get those values? everything else was super clear, thanks
lol, listen to what he says, the values are in the description.
HI thanks for the tutorial. After the reboot where do i go next please?
I have saved screenshots from my videos and copied them into the word file. now I've opened the file and the images are all missing and instead of each image there's a warnning that says: ( the image part with relationship id was not found ) any idea how I can fix it and get the images back?
Thank you. You saved my time and brain. Thanks a lot
Happy to help
I already had the registry file there. it still isn't working. should I delete that line and start again?
I navigated to this folder on my PC and found it was still present. No issues to note. I still am not seeing screenshots appear in this folder when using the Print Scrn key.
For me the screenshots are getting clicked on preasing Win+Prtscrn and then get auto deleted immediately from the folder. However when I use the snippet application the screenshot remains in the same folder and do not get auto deleted. Any idea what is wrong?
2022 and is works great thank you so much great video 🙂

*THAAANKS!!!!* For those who used win+printscreen before doing this thinking lost all screenshots, don't worry because you're screenshots are in Pictures/screenshots in D: or other disk partition
Glad to help.
No they're not as i don't have a separate partition.
Huge help! Thanks!

@@biancaalmeda1963 Same here, still can't fine screenshots?!

Amazing, thank you.

I'm having this issue with my pc, it stopped awhile ago and really miss it, curious as to why you save a copy of 'Registry Editor' to your desktop as a backup? You don't use it again after you enter {B7BEDE81-DF94-4682-A7D8-57A52620B86F} & you've entered value data as %USERPROFILE%\Pictures\Screenshots in the User Shell Folder. After rebooting and screen shot works correctly again can it be deleted from your desktop? At time stamp 1:10 you said if you ever had to go back to the previous version you could do so. The previous version didn't work correctly so why keep it &/or restore it? I am techy to a point but not as knowledgeable as you so I proceed with caution before I start making changes to my OS & creating other problems for myself. Can you explain so I'm clear.
backing up is always good in case if something goes horribly wrong for some reason. better safe than sorry
@@DonMascarpon Yeah that's true. Its my postcard template I created I'm worried about. Have multiple postcard dimensions, layouts, and logo's I'd hate to lose.
