I've joked for years about building an off road recovery rig out of a Subaru since they do so well in the snow. I've also always said that if you put a Subaru drivetrain in a Jeep chassis you'd have an unstoppable off road vehicle. Well Ironman 4x4 builds one of the only actual Subaru lift kits that doesn't just use spacers, and adds a ton of capability for these cars. I took the family up to their monthly Rigs and Coffee event to check out the kit for myself, and to explore some more of the other products they have.
I bought their roof top tent and 270 awning a little while back and after using them for a bit, finally go through and show a bit about them. Very good quality products for a very reasonable price, it doesn't get any better than that!

Now I just need to buy a rig to go with my gear 🤜💥🤛
When you were at Ironman the Brat that you walk past in the video that’s my buddy
The brat that the little girl sat in is my buddy
Are these products available for the european market ? Many thanks
What make subaru truly the best is WHAT YOU DON'T have to do to them.
The fact that you put your family first before your video is amazing. She wanted you're attention and you instantly gave it to her. Good man good father
I get the stink eye from jeepers all the time in my Crosstrek! Argued one day out in the Ocotillo Wells ORV area with a jeeper about how I got into the area they swore only lifted jeeps or side-by-side could access. I assured him it didn't fly and offered to have him ride out with me to the paved road. I love my Subaru
I see a lot of people that think they need a jeep to do what a Subaru can easily do!
I’m sure you can do a lot of things that are awesome, but don’t get yourself into a trail your vehicle can’t handle and have to pay a hefty tow fee
@@AustinH7 I've been offroading for 40+ years and only have one rule of thumb, I don't go anywhere I can't get MYSELF out. Never had to call for a commercial tow.
I used to rally the hell out of my Crosstrek deep into the woods
My wife’s outback has gotten places my lifted Tundra can’t.
Interesting "FUN FACT" : While attending a Weapons school in the Navy many years ago, one of my classmates was stationed in Philippines when Mt Pinatubo blew (I was actually on deployment myself having just been there a couple months prior). With all the ash everywhere the only vehicle able to get around was his 4wd Subaru POS rusted out dive vehicle.. He also took amazing pics of it all..
The Softroading the West, another CZcamsr from Oregon, drove a 2012 Forester that he lifted with springs and bigger tires. He went places that Jeeps and other 4X4s went. It was also his daily driver...but that ended when someone hit it and totalled it. It was a great rig.
Recoveries, off roading, camping, and exploring adventures. You really know how to live! I love your channel man!
I think Subarus getting stuck is an indication that people actually use them as intended. It seems that lots of 4x4 off-road trucks are afraid to drive on gravel.
A lot of people now have the mindset that unless it is a "road" your vehicle can't go there. Just running off onto the mowed grass blows some people's perception of what is possible.
Here in SoCal, 99% of offroad trucks and jeeps are worthless, a small Toyota 4x4 stock or a Subi has more function and capability than these idiots running lift blocks, stiff springs, low hanging shock mounts or axle U bolts, oh and my personal fav...big worthless 20+ in wheels with skinny sidewalls. Trailer queens....... seen more Subi's new and old see more trails than everything else I've seen.
I like my paint job.
lol Ironman ought to hire your daughter as their spokesperson! "Look how much fun their stuff is!"
my Daily is a Diesel Forrester .. had it 5 years & it's done everything i've asked of it .. week long camping trips .. forest tracks .. long road trips .. like the look of 2" long spring/damper lift kit
i really do like the "This is what i use, how i use it, where i got it, So Ya here is a video" its soo nice to see how IRL a product can be!
Rather then an AD on something the pitchman used only for the ad.
Thanks For Sharing!
You couldn't of found a more qualified test person than Riley she looks like she is having so much fun. Such awesome content Casey keep up the awesome work and as always be safe 👍 😀

Casey, we are not going anywhere. This is why I like your channel; you always have something different going on.
Owned a subaru since 2015. Bought it as a DD because my lifted tacoma drinks fuel like a V8 from the 1970's. After 6 years of ownership of the subaru and 12 years of the tacoma I can honestly say I feel 100% safer in the subaru.
I had a 1982 AMC Eagle Sport that would give a Subaru some good competition in stock form. It was this high from the factory. It was a posi with a Pontiac 4 cyl and it wouldn't spin a tire in snow or sand, It didn't have the power, it just went. The only 4X4 I ever knew of that came with white sidewall tires from the factory.
You can't beat an Eagle.
Years ago a kid I knew had one of the latest Chevy Camaros before they quit making them for several years thanks to recession.
We had put on all the aftermarket products including computer to make that car faster and more powerful. He ended up selling it and buying a all wheel drive Subaru sports car instead. '' I don't remember which one anymore "
That new Subaru was faster that Camaro was plus in the winter time when it snowed that car would stay between the ditches unlike the souped up rear wheel drive.
Nice to see the Subaru's being shown with the off road lift kits, winches, and roof campers. I would add that a rear tow hitch is a good addition. For towing, and using as a winch attachment. My Subaru is stock, and it can go many places on the forest service roads, watching so I do not get bottomed out, and never have.
I have a stage-2 lift kit (2") from Ironman on my '15 xterra pro-4X. Solid product and excellent customer service.
I love my Outback and what it can do. Will have to checkout the discounts you have made available.
Thanks Casey and it’s time to go camping!
Any questions about Casey's character were answered in one little part of this video. When his daughter came up and interrupted the interview, Casey didn't just push her away or blow her off, he ditched the interview to see what she wanted to show him. It was awesome to witness.
Chris had the Subaru part covered, Riley just wanted to ask if she could climb in the tent, and you saw the answer!
When my wife had a Forester, we went some ridiculous places with it and never had a problem, except for breaking through deep snow. Trails and some gnarly forest roads were no problem.
Bail on you? No way! I love all of your videos, you make sense! Thanks, take care, stay safe.
"Subaru is the king of awd" audi: how DARE you
Great content! We are watching from central Maine- your our only connection to your area of the world! Fun to watch. Have a simple idea- for one video perhaps- could you show the summer look of some of the places where you towed out some cars? Maybe just a still shot of the car towed out and how it looks now without snow? Just a thought- the area you live in is fun to see. Keep up the great work!
Casey you are very much a gentleman. Thanks for helping others out of the goodness of your heart.
Thanks for the feedback and plug for our Rigs and Coffee event, Casey. Great having you out-enjoy your gear and see you next time. 🍻
Thanks for the posting Casey. Very timely as I was looking at the bumper high snow around my Outback and was looking for information on this very thing.
Love the variety of content on your channel! The variety is what makes it interesting from this to taking down the sign to exploring old paths and of course the recoveries.
Interesting accessories for setting up a Subaru. Don't forget to install some tow points for Casey!
Yes please!
Your kid stole the show 😂👍🏻
Great video Casey. Thks for sharing the Ironman event. Good info.
Looking forward to it seeing more!
Lived in a ski resort town for five years, pulled out more stuck Subaru’s than any other SUVs. Most were high centered on snow. Unrealistic expectations of their capabilities.
Great to see that "The Chairman Of The Board" still has you under control. Love to see Riley in your videos. Keep up the good work, I don't just watch your channel for snow.
Good morning Casey. That was a real nice video and good to see you guys having fun! Riley was having a blast checking things out LOL.. I agree with you on Subaru All wheel drive system, we have two Foresters in our family and they both have been flawless with each of them having over 100,000 miles now. I like the awning and roof top tent. I am going to have to check into this company. Thank you Casey! Have an awesome day and of course thumbs UP! 👍
Good presentation and I liked the change of content. I’ve never been to Oregon and would love to see the back country. As far as suburbs go my wife had a WRX when we lived in Albuquerque but when we moved to New Hampshire the WRX became a snowplow/drifter so she bought an Outback. The car handled the ice and snow with ease.
Thanks Casey. Loved it, very helpful to me as I start thinking about future adventures
😁 I'm the guy with the winch you showed. Talked to you for a quick second and subscribed to the channel. I'll share this with the group.
I have a lifted Subaru Crosstrek over here in Idaho, my dad calls it "the orange mountain goat". I have the Ironman 4x4 suspension lift. I can attest to its great improvement of ride quality on washboard and off-road over the stock suspension. I got mine on a 25% off sale that included a free air compressor. I modified the air compressor with a pressure switch and tank, and mounted it as a permanent on-board air system.
Back in the 90s My buddy built a tube chassis buggy that used a full 1980s Suburu drivetrain. The early ones actually had a 2speed 4x4 transfer case. He turboed the old school pushrod motor for more power and also Lincoln locked the diffs.
That thing would go anywhere !
@@straybullitt yep, that’s the drivetrain he used.
I had a couple 2 door hatchbacks from that era, bullet proof cars. Just rusted into dust though.
Great Vlog Casey very informative, Iron-man made some great gear.
Great to see Riley keeping you on you toes. I'm looking forward to more Vlogs 😊👍
Subaru.... LoL.. on the next episode we convert a Honda Element into a mini RV.....just messing with you Casey. Love the channel!!!
THAT Was Good & I'm Looking forward to Some Of The Other Thing's 👍
Subarus are amazing vehicles and I may even consider an Outback after seeing this one. It would open a whole new world to hit the end of the pavement and keep right on going! Thanks, Casey!
I'm gonna keep it real 100%, my wifes lifted outback on AT tires has outperformed my lifted Tahoe and XJ with open differentials in the Central Oregon terrain including deep snow. I love the AWD system. Great video Casey!✌🏼🌲
It's the wheel-independent traction control that uses the brakes to prevent free spinning. Not quite as good as a true diff lock, but close enough. For a lot of SUVs and trucks, you'll get more capability out of good tires and lockers than out of a lift.
I have a 2011 Pathfinder. Ironman 4x4 is one of very few places that had a lift kit for it. I bought it and put it on myself in about 4 hours.
I enjoyed this video. Always enjoyed Subarus. Riley enjoyed herself. Casey keep making these fun videos. Until the next video. Stay safe.
always look forward to any of your content
That was a great video Casey .. And best wishes from Scotland...
Thank you..👍
I almost brought my 2021 Forester with the Ironman lift to that event, wish I did now. I had it installed at their shop in Sherwood about 6 months ago and couldn't be happier. Just FYI they do 25% off all the time on their suspensions if you can wait a month or two.
I find the lift kit idea very interesting. Interesting enough I might pick up a Subaru. I do need a replacement for the Grand Cherokee that got wrecked.
Same 🤜💥🤛
Interesting video. I owned a camper years ago, but have gotten very settled and sedentary in my ways. Your spiel on Subaru and the extra equipment available for them got my blood pumping a bit again. It looks like a very workable package. Gives me something to think about.......
Casey I really enjoyed this video and I am looking forward to videos you have planned. One of the things I love about your channel is I never know what to expect and this is a great thing. Keep up the great work
I have 2005 Subaru and I am seriously thinking about doing this with it.
I also have a 2005 Subaru and the lift kit and AT tires I can go anywhere short of rockcrawling. We have done a number of class 3 and class 4 trails and it survived mostly intact. So YES go for the lift kit and get the biggest AT tires that will fit on it.
Thank you for including the clips of your precious daughter ❤️ She's absolutely adorable and certainly looks like a handful 😊 ☺️ 😉
I am redeemed! Thank you.. So tired of being teased for my Crosstrek. (Orange, of course...) if I were not 75 years old, I would buy one of these kits. The one time I got stuck was hung up in deep snow. But I was in my driveway. Because I am, like, old and I know better. 😉
Go ahead, take a trip to the coast and get a kit installed. Then enjoy some dirt roads on the way back. Sounds like it will give you a more comfortable ride for that well used body of yours. You know you want to take the back away, without the tourists.
@@dianafertig2188 in my teens and twenties in Northern New England I was always getting stuck in snow way out in the boonies. But I drove a tiny
Volkswagen Beetle, and when you got stuck, you just picked it up and moved it.
Lin H that is a Fun Fact… lol
@@linh8997 I had a friend who swore the beetles would go anywhere, plowed road or snowy field. 🙂
@@sharonmiller6436.... you did have to be careful not to bring too many friends, since my first one was only 35 HP. But it was $600, fully equipped. "Fully equipped" means it had a steering wheel. 🙃
Most excellent stuff. Now I have to look into Ironman bumper for my truck and lift for my Forester. :-( Looking forward to your new videos.
love the variety keep it up
I could never bale on you now. I’m addicted to the channel. Keep up the good work. Thanks
Great to see that you love using a Australian company like Ironman
awesome. deff want to see more of these overlanding videos
Wife and I ended up buying a new 2023 crosstrek premium with a manual, and it is my daily driver and I love it. It's slow to accelerate, so that must be said. That set aside, every other aspect is just perfect. It looks nice and does more than I need it for. I used to be a Ford only type of person, because I grew up with my dad working in a Ford plant, then my brother, and now me. Ford has nothing on like the Subaru Crosstrek, and the fact I could get a manual simply sold me on it. I do not like automatics, and I am probably one of the very out there minority who prefer a manual transmission.
Back in 2008 i bought a suzuki sx4 jlx 4x4 crossover and i went everywhere in the Canadian rockies loved it.
YAY! It's CASEY, with another adventure
Awesome video great to see your family having fun with you and Riley is just too cute
I was there at Ironman on 4/2 and can't believe that I missed you! Some pretty cool rigs there.
Nice to see you not picking on Subarus in this video 😂😂😂
I love my Outback!!! I put a set of amazing winter tires on it and in the two years that I have had it I never had an issue in Alberta Canada winters. In fact I only had the traction system have to help me once when driving it on a ice covered road when I was leaving a stop light. It handles amazing on pavement, gravel and on snow.
Comfortable to drive (I am short so lots of room). Really good gas mileage. Yes the clearance is an issue but for me if I want more I take my Ford Transit.
Biggest complaint on the Subaru is that it has ZERO accessible storage inside for drinks, snacks, paper, etc.
As much as I love my vehicles I still miss simple locking hubs that I can scrape my knuckles on the ice or mud when turning them but then knowing they are actually engaged.
Great video, can't wait for dessert explorer trips again
Love this video, excited to see moore!
It was great to meet you there. They have a lot of cool items. I didn't realize you were so frickin tall from the videos.
Subaru isn't a big player in uk but I'm impressed & Rileys the star on this video, happy new year guys
Those tents and awnings are cool
Thanks for the video
Thank you for sharing. You have a knack of making research interesting.
Wish I had 1/3 of Rileys energy. 😁
Same
At 1/3 I think I'd still be overpowered. 😃
Awesome video, you have a awesome family... not sure about the Subaru thing, you may want to think about counseling..... LOL.... just kidding .... love your setup
Thanks for doing this feature on Ironman and giving Subaru some credit too. The good news is I installed an Ironman ATS kit on my Crosstrek, the bad news is I haven't gotten stuck since... 😕 I still think a winch would round things out well, though.
If you intend on going way out one should always have a winch
Does it void your warranty to get an Ironman lift kit on your car? I am thinking of getting a 2” lift…just didn’t know if it would void anything?
Not here in the dirt. Over there in house lol. Great video
Good video man.
Riley looks like she had fun and just because the snow melted doesn't mean life stops. Can't wait for the next videos change is good can only watch so many Subaru recoverys 😜
Off road camping videos would be awesome to watch
Another good info video for anyone that likes to go camping and a Subaru owner!
Wait, I know those boots! I have the same one and absolutely love them.
I love seeing you with your family.
I've only seen 1 lifted Subaru in NW Montana, but I'm here to tell you that that little thing was going places where you'd have to be half goat and all Indian to even WALK.
I'm a square body Chevy guy and always will be, but if you can find the best tool for the job you're doing, then you would be stoopud for using anything else.
Thanks for sharing, Casey. It's attitudes like yours that make me subscribe to many different channels besides yours, and I believe it makes the world a better place by coaxing people out of their comfort zone, expanding their horizons and (for some) even opening up their closed minds to different ways we can all work together... cuz 'Murica!!!
Also, I drive a '77 Joop sitting on an '84 Blazer frame with Dana 60 and corporate 14 bolt axles, 350, carb and 4 speed manual.
EVERYONE I see is whooping, hollering, giving me a thumbs up and asking if they can take pictures.
That will crawl through 24 inches of HEAVY ,wet snow all day long with no chains and drive over kelly humps and not even think once about doing so.
It is the perfect tool for my job, and I would be stoopud for using anything else.
Jus sayin
Thanks Casey!
Well dang, I walked past you several times going, “I swear that guy looks real familiar” at the Ironman event 😂 My crosstrek was out in the overflow parking
If Subaru would make a Crosstrek with the WRX motor and 6-sp manual, I'd own one.
The wife's Crosstrek that we put a small aftermarket turbo on with a 5 speed did well.
i have similar roof tent for years now (it is actually the same :) but from different company - also Australian) and I love it!
It is opened in 4 min and closed in 5 min, while I can leave sleeping bag and pillow in it...
Hello Casey, couldn't help but notice the old brat in the show. Was my favorite back in the day and very capable. Subi's are very capable like you noted and glad to see a company that can make them better. Have fun and enjoy your setup it looks great. Thanks again for all you do.
Another great show Casey. So much for the end of snow though. LOL
Hi from Australia,
Thanks for the info. I have a 2015 Forester, it's my dream car. The lift kit sounds awesome idea. I'll have to do some research to see what's available here in Australia. Love your videos, thanks again.
Can't wait to see some overlanding vids from you! My wife just got a crosstrek too.
Fine, Casey, just.....fine. You just cost me a pile of money....albeit with a discount, so that's good!! I guess it's mostly my fault for owning an Outback, but still....LOL! Seriously though, I've been on the fence about lifting my Outback since I bought it, but this kit pushed me over the edge. I'm looking forward to it!!
I mainly agree with the video but there are several other options for lifting a Subaru with just suspension from within the States.. Gorilla Offroad, Flatout and a few others. Spacers, well quality spacers, such as Subie Lift Oz or ADF, do have camber and caster adjustment built in for lifts larger than 2" which isn't found in suspension only kits such as ironman. So if you're looking for a lift more than that you'll still end up using strut top spacers and subframe spacers.
Very cool gear! Both the overlanding stuff, which I've become quite a fan of myself, and really? Off-road Subarus? How can you not *love* ? I would definitely have used your code if I lived nearby! And lastly but not least, nice to see Riley again, she just makes me laugh :D
Better than a Jeep?!? Someone hold my Beer 🍺 I got ,,🤚'' to do... I have to say your right about them getting out and getting stuck I've unstuck few Subaru's with my grand cherokee when I'm heading deep into the back country
Riley is the perfect spokesmodel. Such energy and enthusiasm for the products!
Damn.
My dad was the kind that would have smacked the shit out of me and thrown me in the car for the rest of the day for interrupting him while he was talking.
Nice to see someone who knows how important those early days are.
I was just debating about buying a Subaru and putting a lift kit on it and maybe some other modifications. I don't like roof tent personally. Too much of a safety issue for me. I'm out in the sticks all four seasons, high winds, freezing temperatures , thickets that has trees falling daily, floods, forest wildfires is the biggest issue. animals, other humans, zombies. The vehicle is a sleeping area that way I can jump in the front seat real quick and get out of the area.
Sticking w you Casey, you are interesting. You go where others fear to go. Outside of town, dessert, mountains and even city driving( which you hate, I concur! ). Riley is a great addition to videos, but then Im a sucker for kids and animals. Just keep doing what you do. Catch you next time!
