- It's time test out the Surly Bud and Lou Fat Bike Tire Set. These jumbo 26x4.8" tires are front and rear specific. Additionally, they can both be mounted in either direction to add more cornering ability or more propulsion (Awesome). I have the front Bud tire mounted for corning with 4 PSI and tubeless. The back Lou tire is mounted for propulsion with 6 PSI also tubeless. My general rule is 2 PSI more in the rear tire for most conditions dry, wet or frozen. Good times, thanks for watching.

These tires are freaking amazing on sandy trails. I'll get them out on some rocky trails soon and test the sidewalls and general durability.
I ride this combo out near JTree, CA. They're great! Hear they're awesome for snow, too, but haven't had a chance to try that yet.
The tire set seems great on snow. I keep them mounted all-year and they’re still going strong with plenty of tread life in them.
Huge fan of the Bud/Lou combo here, from the toughest snow to the gnarliest mtn pass riding, they work really well.
Awesome to here you’ve taken them on some Coloradical trails. I can’t find much info on the sidewall construction of Surly tires. Like Maxxis uses terms like EXO to say sidewalls are tough.
they are excellent tires in the snow. i run those and vee snowshoe 2xls in the snow
The Bud & Lou really dig in and grip. Especially the loose gravel/sand. I’m not so sure how the sidewalls are built as far as durability against rocky trails. We’ll see. I’m a Maxxis Minion lover too! Rode studded Snowshoe XL 4.8” this past winter. Love those too!
hi.26x4.0 vs 26x4.8 which one has better overall performance
I’ve never run a tire skinnier than 4.8”. The fatter the better for fat bikes. Mostly fat bikes are slower riding. I suppose a skinny tire would have a little less rolling resistance, but would suffer on sand and snow.
Do you have 26x4.8 model tires that you would recommend as a brand, for example, I can buy them on aliexpress
Are you going to be riding in winter snow or are you looking for a good overall tire? I find the Maxxis Minion FBF/FBR tire set to be a great all around tire that can be setup on tubeless ready wheels.
For general performance. So when I go from 4.0 to 4.8, should I change the inner tube and rim?
You can reuse tubes for fat bikes. They will fit your 4”-4.8”. You wouldn’t need to change out rims.
