To small children we teach that the Sun rises in the east. Afterwards we teach them that the Sun neither rises or sets. It may appear as a contradiction. Similarly in the teachings of the Gita, you may find something like this. This is because the teaching evolves through the chapters. There is a very old commentary by Sri Madhusudana Saraswati. Please go through it, if you want to know something about the subtleties of the Gita.

പാഞ്ചാലി മുടി അഴിച്ചു നടക്കുന്നത് മഹാഭാരതത്തിലില്ല. പിന്നീട് വേണീസംഹാരം എന്ന നാടകത്തിലാണ് അതു വരുന്നത്! 5-10 നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളിൽ
