      @@Swearengen1980 I still can't find any large rifle or magnum primers anywhere in a retail setting.
      Plenty to go around at the online auction sites though, usually at 3 to 4 times the normal price.
      Makes me wonder where all the online retailers are getting their "new, fresh stock" primers?
      I'm lucky, I stockpiled while prices were low and have enough for the rest of my life!

    • @Swearengen1980
      @Swearengen1980 Před 2 měsíci

      @@Drivapete I see them on occasion in Bass Pro. I buy almost everything online, but I still browse the shelves out of curiosity. I think magnum primers are the hardest to find for sure. I've seen them at gun shows aplenty and the prices are insane. Not as insane as a couple years ago, but still up there. Online retailers often have contracts with certain companies and my theory is that reloaders are more likely to be older men. Older men are more likely to wipe the stores clean first thing in the morning on delivery day. My dad was an FFL and gunsmith for 30 years as a side gig, before the ATF visits got too annoying. He had his 3 wholesale websites for dealers he went through, but after that....he didn't use the internet for shit. What's a google? He had no interest in it. Now that he gave up the FFL and doesn't deal direct, I'm the one who searches the internet and finds good deals on reloading supplies, text them to my mom and she'll show him to say buy or not LOL. But I think that older folk mentality is why certain things are harder to get and the source, or at least a part of it. I'm in my 40s and been in this culture all my life, so I think certain stereotypes are quite applicable.

    While this batch lasts I have been picking up Hornady Black 5.45 at the local Academy Sports around me for $108 per 100 rounds. That's with all the taxes added in. I have one more I need to hit to see what they have. Once that is exhausted I am going to be looking for the Monarch 5.56 battle packs and 12 gauge field loads. I actually prefer to purchase at brick and Mortar stores because 1) I remember the years when the online places were sold out and the physical locations were the only ones that had product and 2) The one Mom and Pop I use gives me a nice discount due to all the ammunition I purchase there.

    Great video. Scheels recently opened a location in my area and I like going there, but I haven't really purchased any ammo from them yet. I normally go to Trueshot ammo which is a majority online retailer, but they do have a showroom at their warehouse where I mostly pick up different ammo. Sportsman's Warehouse has a huge sale going on now and they are roughly the same price for ammo. Honestly, the one caliber I'm looking for quite a bit is .30 Carbine and I've had to resort to going online for the most part since most places don't have it in stock for some reason.

    Go to the same scheels and I’ve seen tons of ammo. Shit ton of 6.5 & .308. And that wasn’t even half of their selection. Every week or two they do a mega ammo sale. Looks like it was 7.62x39. They have done the same w/1000 rounds of 5.56 and .308. They really like to pedal the hornady precision hunters. Wish they carried more options for 30-30.

    I used my first stimulus check to buy a gun, so, never paid attention to ammo prices when things were good. Got a .44 magnum Henry, but man finding ammo was a bear. Over the last year or two, I've seen limited availability at the stores around here, but it's there. Usually federal 240 grain. Prices have varied wildly. I am finding standard 240 grain loads, 50 round boxes for $32 online, 64 cents per round. Last time I saw that federal 44 mag at Fleet Farm (regional big box sort of competitor to Scheels, but more on the hardware/farm side of things) it was $65 for a box of 50 rounds, or $1.30 per round. 44 Special remains unobtanium in store. The rare occasions I have seen it, it's only HSM cowboy action, and also around $60 to $65 for 50 rounds. This is in central Wisconsin.

    There is Plenty of Ammo out there make no mistake, the problem is that the prices are so high that less people are going out target shooting as often so the sales are not as high as it was.
    i remember i use to be able to get New Republic Training and Range 9mm Luger Ammo 115 Grain FMJ for $9.00 a box of 50 and now it's $12.25 a box..
    so a box of 250 is around $63.00 or so, and i use to get that a lot less..
    They say the prices are so high because the United States has depleted much of their ammo because of giving it to Ukraine, and that is probably true, so you probably won't see a price reduction for at least a few years because it takes years to re-stockpile ammo..
    So as long as Biden is giving ammo to Ukraine we are going to see expensive prices for ammo for quite a while, until at least Either Russia defeats Ukraine which will happen sooner or later, or Trump gets into office and puts a stop to this madness..
