Garand thumb just pushed a PSA freedom upper to 6000 rounds, only started to loose accuracy at 4000 and functionality at 5000+. Not bad for the price.
Seeing that most ppl won’t shoot that much, it’s a solid investment.
Based on discussions I’ve had with my friend that works at Lake City Ammo Depot, max barrel life for M-4s at work is 10k rounds and receivers at 40k are sent to depot for eval and rebuild. These are constantly being run hard full auto and semi for ammo testing. Small parts are constantly being checks and replaced as needed so there’s not a lot of specific data to share on that.
Some interesting info from ammunition testing
Mike was pushing the PSA upper receiver assembly HARD with 3x30rd mag dumps on full auto, then cooling; this accelerated wear considerably. It was also noted that with a new barrel and bolt assembly, it should be as good as new!
My PA-10 is at 3k and going strong 💪 with no malfunctions 🎉
That test is very relevant for the 0.001% of people who watched it who will run a PSA upper on a $15,000 full auto lower.
@@hansblitz7770 👍Well said!
To hell with the price, as long as it shoots, and shoots well, its still money well spent. 👍🏾
Thanks for that!
8.5 300 Black out 💥 Sitting on pass seat...G19 on person
Normally I'd say forget the LPVO but, that's some very open terrain.
Here in WV usually there's only an open line of sight for about 150 yards. It's all curves, hills, trees, gas stations, and abandoned stuff.
Exactly my point! I have wide open spaces while others may only need 1-200 yards. Adapt as you need it.
Sounds like you're in appalachia
I'm in WV and you're right. You can get a long shot if you're looking from one hill to another.
WV here too!
It's useful in the city too, especially when you consider all of the things to hide under and behind. You may only have a small amount of the target exposed.
I agree a long gun is always the way to go compared to a handgun. Those days of a gun rack in your rear window are over (and I’m old enough to remember those days) and you say everything is locked up but your just one big rock thru the window from losing it all. I know you have it concealed but in these big cities they’ll bust your window for loose change in cup holders. Not to mention your truck going from an oven to refrigerator during summer.
Missed the point...great! Thanks for watching anyways
I have a 10.5 PSA with a red dot that I keep in bag in my truck. I wanted to go small for my truck gun so it didn't take up much space. I keep 3 mags in a bandoleer in the bag with it. That is in addition to the CCW I always have on me.
Right on..thanks for watching
Dagger is a great gun, i have one with 500+ and it hasnt failed me once. Also great truck load out! Definitely gives me ideas for mine 🔥
Awesome!!! Thanks for watching.
I keep lots of tools and clutter in my vehicle to hide the full combat loadout inside hidden from thieves.
The worse the vehicle looks the more apt for a person to leave it alone
My setup is almost spot on with yours, lol. $99 PSA upper w/13” lightweight rail (in store pallet sale years ago), $30 stripped lower as well. All in for $400 w/ sling and RD. Locked under rear seat in Tuffy Security’s locker along with chest rig and mags. Greyman Tac seat panel as well for med kit and doggy gear, (leash, treats, poo bags, water and collapsing bowl). If I need to get home w/o my truck I also have a get home bag with all I need for a 25 mile hike.
Right on!!! Thanks for the rundown and for watching
What a fun series. Love it! 👍👍
Right on!!! Thanks…hope to have more soon.
Love your setup. When I travel and have my truck gun with me I use a coated steel cable and run it up through the mag well and out the ejection port. Dont have a solid trigger guard, if i did then I would run it through there. Little more work getting it out, but more secure for me.
I run a 10.5" 5.56 SBR or a 7.5" AR9 SBR in addition to my CCW G19.
I lean into the 10.5, but the AR9 has been a workhorse. Close to 8k rounds of 9mm through it with no malfunctions, and accuracy holding at 50 yds, which is about as far as id expect to use it.
9mm is incredibly easy on barrels, and direct blowback 9mm bolts are essentially blocks of steel lol. Very robust, very dependable systems.
Right on…thanks for watching
I want to say something snarky, but I can’t disagree or pick on anything mentioned. Good job.
I’m sure there will be someone that thinks they knows better and will try to troubleshoot.
Well done buddy! I chose a psa dissipator upper with a fn barrel, 80% lower with bcm lpk and bcg, a1 stock and triangle hand guard with a Aimpoint pro and a Surefire 6p on an old 660 mount under the front sight tower. All in just under 1k and I don’t worry about leaving it in the truck when needed.
Right on...thanks for watching!
My truck gun is a Springfield 1903A3 with 25 rounds on striper clips. Old school? Yes, but anything within 200 yards is mine.
Why in the world would you stop and engage a threat at 200 yards? Just drive away...
The key points are it's loaded serviceable and secure go a long ways
100%!!! Adapt this as you need it.
I don't own a truck anymore. Where I live, they're too big for me to park, horrible gas mileage, and I don't do any towing or drive off road. My trunk gun is a carry handle AR I built from parts, including a chrome lined barrel and Toolcraft BCG. The hardest part at the time (2012) was finding a carry handle upper. I had the brake pinned/welded on by a smith, as well as getting the upper put together. I don't put anything on it that requires batteries. I made that mistake when I left a handgun in my trunk over the winter and the battery in the light died. The brake I used is outside threaded, so I put a blast mitigation device on it until I can talk myself into getting a suppressor. I wouldn't leave a suppressor in my vehicle. Anyway, I don't have a lot of wide open spaces around here, so an LPVO is just added weight. This is a light, handy carbine and the only way I'd replace it is if I got an XM-177 Style Upper.
Good rundown…thanks for watching.
That's a helluva setup! For a truck rifle I'd prefer a red dot cowitnessed with irons. In an urban area, the extra zoom won't be needed. You can always put a flip-over magnifier if you need to see further. Personally I choose not to have a "truck gun" cause almost every vehicle I've had has been broken into at least once. Got lucky with the last three, but don't wanna take any chances.
I recommend the Santa Cruz lock add on. Got mine for under 200 on sale. Makes it nicer knowing locked up decently
Depending on what you’re doing, where you’re going, and the particulars of laws.. I like this set up a lot.. I mean, I am of the end of the era when you could drive to your high school parking lot with the old school back glass rifle racks.. in todays world I’d like to have a custom compartment to facilitate a rifle and load out.. again depends where you are going and what you’re doing.. good job.
Thanks boss!!! I appreciate the feedback
Roof mount with a false roof liner is an awesome setup ;)
Good vid, man! Nice rig!
Thanks for watching
Great video! I’m inspired to film my own truck gun/Get Home loadout. 🤔
Please do!!! I’d love to see your new setup!
If I were to choose a "truck gun" from the firearms I have right now, the rifle would be my AR-15 with a 10.5" barrel (Bear Creek Arsenal upper, PSA lower), the pistol would be my full-size Bersa 9mm w/17 round mags (not a fan of striker-fired pistols). The AR is short enough that it can be stored and moved around easily inside a vehicle (4Runner). It's accurate enough for the distances I would want to engage a target at (150 yards? 200 yards? Just drive away, I'd be more concerned with a threat that's 50 yards or closer).
Thanks for watching
You can make a trash blanket and cover things on the floor boards, too.
Who says I don’t 😏🤣
Its all SHTF and TEOTWKI til you get pulled over for speeding and or a routine traffic stop on the side of the highway and a simple warning or ticket turns into a 2 hour ordeal, if not unlawful arrest. All that being said I dont actually disagree with the premise of this video, something more discreet thats out of sight 100% of the time is what Id lean more for. Like maybe a backpack with an armor panel, a compact pdw and medical that all fits in and stays in that bag til you need it.
Thanks for watching
In an SUV,you can convert your hidden spare tire compartment into a gun storage.
Good option.
Very good well done. 👍 Maybe get some wheel chains to carry for the snow they also work GOOD in mud.
That’s a good point
I got a 10" 300blk Areo with Law Tactical folder, Eotech ESP3 with Eotech 43 5x magnifier, Phenix TK22R 3300 lumen light with Tactical switch, Fab defense angled forgrip with VTS thumb grip both rubberized, Radian charging handle, Geissele Ultra Duty lower parts, with Geissle single stage flat trigger, and Griffin armament Enhanced BCG, Strike industries Stabilizing Fin, Cookie Cutter Comp, and a Odin works extended mag release, as my truck gun. Total about $3400.
Thanks for watching
Great setup. I agree with brands and models. In my opinion, and this is just my opinion . I would ditch the law folder. It would be getting rid of a possible failure point. Considering it's standing in a rack for storage. If it was being stored under the back seat, I might leave it on there. But either way, I think it's a solid setup.
Thanks for the content. Stay safe and God Bless..
Agreed…it’s on there as mentioned for testing in other videos but I also find it handy when I’m driving around the property.
I’ve conceal carried for years. Now I sadly feel the need to always have a long gun in my truck all week. I think 2024 will be crazier than we’ve seen so far. Scary.
Something for people to take note of. Some states like here in Ohio, it's not legal to carry a rifle loaded concealed in your vehicle. But it is legal to conceal a pistol!
I would recommend checking your laws. I built a couple AR pistols for our vehicles. Even if rifles was legal, SBR's are a huge paid to travel with do to the laws.
Nice setup man. I love the gun rack.
Valid point!!! Thanks for watching.
While I think a long gun in a truck/vehicle is great, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to keep a handgun as well. I carry a 9mm on my person, but I also keep a 10mm in whatever bag I have with me, and a 10.5 300blk in my vehicle. What I grab will depend on the situation and location. A 10mm In the hand is better than the long gun in the back seat, but I will always have each of them in close proximity!
Valid points and if that works for you…keep doing that!!! Thanks for watching
You can’t go wrong with a reliable AR15 but my preference over my ARs for a truck gun is my stainless Mini-14 ranch rifle with the factory folder and the barrel pinned and welded to 16” with a Choate A2 style flash hider. A basic Weaver 4X scope and a 2000 lumen light. It’s a very compact lightweight package although not as inexpensive as some ARs.
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the breakdown👍
Curious on the TA optic, how it holds up, how it performs.
Me too!!! I’ll do an overview of it and then compare it to other LPVOs.
I'd Love to See a Secured Storage Compartment, such as a 32” x 18” “Coffin” shaped case that could mounted to the passenger side center console.
When closed I'd look like nothing was there @ a glance. Yet, when opened it would allow the Driver to lean over slightly & instantly access an Intermediate Caliber SBR/Pistol with a folder that compressed could easily be restored in such a manner.
Thanks for watching
finally PSA getting the love they deserve!
Nice looking setup
Thanks!! I appreciate you watching
A "get home" kit should be cheap. If you're in a situation where you're away from your home and you mix it up. Things can go wrong fast. Its better to lose a 700.00 set up than 3000.00 Knights and an Eotech and so on. My home defender is a beast! My truck gun is a PSA pistol.
Good points…thanks for watching
So if you mix it up at home with an invader do you think your going to be able to keep your "beast" home gun? Nope it's going in to an evidence locker for years. You will be lucky if you ever get it back. So i guess your life is worth more at home than when your not at home??? Wrong mindset!!
Keeping a weapon in the vehicle is only good if you have the ability to 100% control access got the truck. I definitely don’t want it getting ripped while at the grocery store stocking up. 😊
Planning where you’re going and the area you’ll be in is part of daily life. As mentioned, if I am going to a place that crime is prevalent, my loadout and/or security changes.
I just went with a blem psa pa15 and slapped an A2 carry handle front sight on there and a sling, done lol
That works!
Thank You, Brother Man;
I appreciate Your knowledge ...
Thanks for watching
I keep a Marlin 60 loaded with CCI stingers in my truck.
Thanks for watching
I’m contemplating a flash light on my 10.5”. I feel like it just adds weight. I am out during the day when I have mine. Very rarely am I out after dark unless I’m getting home from work a half hour after dark.
Just a point to consider…thanks for the comment
Isn't there a storage compartment under the back seats? Either way is going to involve turning around to get the rifle. For the back of the seat, I'd hang it lower or go a little smaller.
Too each their own
That's a nice looking smash and grab set up
Good job on not listening to anything I said 👍🏻
@@FitnFire Nothing but the rifle is locked down lol.
@@whowantstogetgoodido cool story bro
@@FitnFireLol man don't be so sensitive.. Your set up is super tactical very cool. I think a locked chest secured to the vehicle is a safer bet for passengers and/or wandering eyes when your door is open. If you're gonna do the CZcams thing you better be open to scrutiny my man.

I got 2 a ar15 ..16” and 10.5 and ak 47 plenty of mag for both

I have just over $1200 in my truck gun too
Wow the law tactical folder costs just as much as the gun itself. I like affordable but not the bottom end of the barrel. I’d rather spend $800. My truck gun cost $750 and then I have $1150 in attachments. 😂😂😂
Thanks for watching
Nice set up, but tacticon charging 399 for that optic? Anyone would be better served going with Athlon at that price point.
Athlon is decent for sure. But I do not think Athlon offers a 1-6 LPVO nor a LPVO with open locking turrets for under $550
@@FitnFire No I get that, but the Helios BTR gen 2 is 399, and though its a 2-12 I'd bet it's build quality is not even comparable to this thing from tacticon. I wanted that company to be awesome, but everything I've bought so far has been absolute junk. Similar to Riton with the claims of veterans making quality, and don't deliver
MA makes it difficult per laws, if its loaded it has to be under your direct control, otherwise uloaded in a lock case in trunk. Definitely not a grab'n'go situation. This is just for your carry gun, an "assault weapon" same treatment and don't even think of carrying it in a bag and you better be headed to the range. 😕
MASS and a lot of NE states makes it really difficult. The best thing is to stay as vigilant as possible and stay on top of current events.
I'd like to hear pros and cons from people for Pickup vs SUV in the context of this video/upcoming series.
I could see it working very similar for a SUV.
@@FitnFire Thanks for the reply. Love your channel, and looking forward to the series!
Whatever gun you got...make it a Katrina gun. Gov will set up roadblocks and take you guns. You will never get them back. They've done it before...in Katrina. Stock idential, reliable and cheap guns in the deep preps when the gov takes them on the road...or door to door. Cache em.
Thanks for watching
Now what so do you do if you drive to/through a state where "assault rifles" are not allowed or you need a license for them? That's why my Silverado truck gun is a .357 lever action (10 rounds) with light, red dot and cartridge sleeve packed under the back seat. I normally carry concealed and have a cabled safe in the storage compartment under the middle front seat (with spare mags) if I need to take the gun off.
Valid point! For me personally…
1. I do not travel to places I cannot legally have what I already own.
2. I plan trips accordingly.
3. I divert my route to bypass any place that might be problematic.
Act accordingly

Yeah, we were arguing it until 10 last night. The bill will get passed even though the majority of testimony was opposed to the bill. Thanks California. We will battle it to SCOTUS if needed. It will eventually be overturned.
Awesome info…but swear to god it sounded like Kermit the Frog at the beginning 😂
YeUP!!! That’s my voice 🤣🤩
I think I know why he chose an LPVO and it’s not just for the magnification. I’m redoing my whole arsenal due to this real issue/concern.
Thanks for watching
@@FitnFire Thank you for the content and provoking thought. I’m required to ask but does an EMP burst have anything to do with it? I’m looking at the Meprolight M22 with a tritium dot and scopes or scopes with tritium like the Trijicon Accupoint just in case the burst happens.
@@anonymoussurname That is only a small fraction of it. Mostly, anything that is going to give my eyes magnification and an etched reticle. This rifle may be subjected to heat/cold temps which could significantly change the zero on a rifle. There shouldn't be a seen effect with 50 yards and in but longer shots may suffer...the magnification will help me see impacts and adjust. Also, this and the LPVOs that I like to use will have a etched reticle that will not have to rely on batteries. Those are a few of the points.
@@FitnFire thank you for the response. Can’t wait to see the video addressing this. You just gave me more considerations for what I’m now referring to as ‘the long haul’. No resupply, no electronics, harsh environments, no room for questionable equipment.

Yep
A $1500 Truck Gun + $500 to secure it and you're Ready... Call it an insurance policy. You want it for the worst case scenario. Personally I would secure it under or behind the back seat for concealment. Trust me if they think you got Gatts they stealing the whole truck

Cool, but it seems like you lost a seating position.
Don’t need it
Ahh yes the " truck gun" ( nobody ever has just a car) and the "tactical wannbe" fantasies surrounding it.
Trucks are the prevalent vehicle in the area I live and where I travel. You can easily adapt this to your needs. But I’m glad you were able to express yourself.
the minimum for a truck gun is it has to be a firearm and has to be in your truck.
Sure
Well that's good you can suck up a thousand dollars gun loss but that would be devastating to the average American. Especially those retired or part time employed.
By the way my neighbor just had her pistol stolen from her car.......
That’s why I specifically talked about the rifle itself being so inexpensive and how the other things were NOT necessary.
I also mentioned that you vehicle is NOT a storage facility which is why the rifle was double secure when I had to BRIEFLY step away. Let’s use some of that grey matter
Yes I agree with you, but the amount you mentioned, so I carry mine(handgun ) on me all the time.
But I keep a get home bag and water in my truck though, I worry especially after my neighbors car gun being taken.
