This is just a fun little test and not made to give any specific factual info.
Thanks for watching. - Jak na to + styl
Alpen flage, is a direct descendant from Liebermuster Camouflage the last SS camouflage of WW2, works exceptionally well in urban environment
Not really SS camo, it was designed to replace both splittermuster and all it's offspring, which were distinctly heer patterns. SS always got hold of army uniforms, equipment and camo even to the point they had breast Eagles on their arms and army belt buckles here and there (war is chaotic) but leibermuster was an army development.
@@cellanimation interesting, check out a book called waffen SS camouflage, you will see leibermuster in there, heer camo was splinter and sumpftarn throughout the entire war, SS had their own version of uniforms with different button spacing on their field grey tunics, 5 for SS and 6 for the army
exactly. but the point is that those two camo were intended to work against night visions. what by the way the swiss does really well.
so stop thoses tupid tests without mentioning that this czmo was meant to operate quite exclusively in the night. all the swiss army doctrine at that time was to operate in the night to compensate for small size of their army
@nick7602 we're both wrong. Leibermuster was developed for both forces, I guess as a way to save money and unify the SS and Heer visually.
I'm aware of the SS felduniform differences, though half the time the SS were rocking army jackets. You often see collar tabs that barely fit onto the tunic, for example. The 6 buttons was for tunics made of mid-late war fabric, which typically fared better with some extra support. Looks a bit nicer IMO too, though the SS did stick to 5 buttons, though again, they rocked heer uniforms due to Germany's absolutely shocking lack of resources and pretty average supply chain to the front.
At one time I started to make reproduction uniforms but since I live in the most isolated and muggy backward nation on earth, I realised I would never sell a single item. Made a pretty decent m31 gebirgsrucksack and a reichswehr 8 button tunic before giving up lol
@@nick7602 czcams.com/video/1IcVMWYI9p0/video.htmlsi=U5jnNHDhi_cQRfEg It is a German Video but there are subtitles. He explains how they came to be called WSS camouflage.
I have a full suit of Alpenflage...extremely effective in the environment it was designed for. Late summer & fall here in the mountain PNW when the orange & red colors appear in brush, etc. Yes..I get ridicule.
ODGG?

I'm a fan of Alpenflage. It's as quirky as Hell. In fact, the quirkiness of Euro camo is a hoot.
I was absolutely not expecting to get 10k views on this video hahaa. It was kinda just for fun and completely unscripted, but I appreciate the positive feedback.
I love that the Swiss call it the "4 fruit pyjamas" 😂😂😂
This is brilliant! You can see where the idea of the British DPM came from, which is probably the best camouflage of the Cold-War era.
I thought the hat looked really good when you zoomed out, but I saw you right away each time you showed a demonstration. It may be because of how dark the pattern is, because I often thought I saw the shadow of the hood, but it was really the pattern once you moved.
Yes I think the fact that I didn't tie down the hood made it worse, but it was definitely the darkness off the pattern itself that made it stand out.
@@DomMAGZZstill a lot better than solid colors though. I’m surprised the red actually blended as well as it did.
@@Sparrow51403 Ya the red blends great with the brown leaves at far distances. I should have tried it out in the more dense parts of the woods as well. I think if I wasn't right in the center of the camera, the first one would have turned out to be harder to spot.
It was developped in germany to bring up engagement distances. It works from far away. The new one as well. I was hunting in October with Taz 90, stand at 60 meters from my father complete stand up, no bushes in the line of sight. I phone him, he did Not see me until i move fast. Background was Woodland at 60 meters to. It was the classical swiss wooded prairie. If you want to ambush, with dmr or lmg, os the way to go.
Yea, I see you and you look cool. 👍
Wow… that stuff blends in super great
Good, well made kit. I have done a green over dye on mine, to help it blend into my local conditions here in the south of the UK. The colours still show through, but the tan base colour is now mid green.
Great video! I’ll have to pick some up!
The belt is a Ausgangsgurtel, to be worn with the formal dress jacket.
It Works very good where it was designed for.
The "red" becomes a "brown" for your eyes with some distance!
And it had those White Spots looong before that shitty Multicum Pattern
While I would not call it "ineffective" since it took a little for me to spot you; the red was always the giveaway. I'd say its a bad pattern compared to other options, but defiantly better than no camo.
Ya definitely better than nothing I agree.
That pattern is not the best feature of this Uniform. It's the fact that it is a load-barring tool too. I made a coat n' trouser combo out of broadcloth, to carry all my needed gear. There are a few flukes to iron out for the next alteration, but it is a nice to have already.
I could find you easily each time, but it still has some blending properties. It would probably strike a good balance between concealment and IFF. The red does stick out.
Would think red on the uniform would make it hard for people around you to spot injurys.
This camo works especially well when there is blood all over the grass
lol, probably would.
Funky indeed.
Fun video, thanks.
Keep it up!

Cheers
I was wondering what type of gas mask were you using? I think it was the SM 67 mask but I’m not quite sure, I’m looking into making a Swiss uniform.
Yes its an SM-67. Good luck on the uniform!
Camo is designed to be most effective at a certain distance i guess combat range ??
it was made for night time operations and to conceal the wearer against infrared optics
@@abbcc5996 yes but DPM multi cam in day
It's very well liked in Appalachia as hunting clothes .. because it hides in the autumn amongst the falling leaves perfectly
Swiss Alpenflage works well in the early to late Fall in the Colorado mountains. But when the snows start, it doesn't. On the High Plains, in the NE, I haven't found it as effective, but foliage is sparce in this area.
Honestly, i think the black in the pattern was the limiting factor in this environment
The more faded it is, the better it works.
Not really, black is effective color to break the silhouette. It's also natural! Dark wood/earth/mud/stone... in the shadow on a sunny day is black!
"Oh but wait as second, that tiny patch of black on the ground is slightly darker than natural, it must be artificial, therefore busted!" -things that never happened.
@@somedud1140 black is not a natural color. It does not perform well in vegetated environments nor in dead vegetation. It’s primary role on this pattern was to break up patterns under infrared light/vision.
@@somedud1140 Much depends on the person's color perception.
I could find him in every shot in about 1/10 of a second, and the Black is a main reason why, it's not a natural black and to me, it really stands out.
Now, I have a large amount of experience finding people hiding in camo, so I can quickly scan and see what warrants more attention. Plus, I have excellent color vision, so even small color changes stand out to me.
For many people, the Black breaks up the silhouette and makes for more effective camo, but for some people, the Black might as well be Day Glow Orange.
They just started issuing the latest iteration and indeed, the blacks have now made space for browns. Red was already out in the last update. So we now have something somewhat comparable to multicam, just overall a bit darker.
I could see you each time, but i knew to look for you, if i didnt know you were there, id have been ambushed.
I think the shini red patterns should change to dark er brown … then it’s ok… 😜✌️🔥🍀
The colors likely match the lichens that are present in the mountains
i was waering this stuff during my service in the swiss army and always asked my self if i just had a chance to survive in autumn in case of war :-))) i was happy when we got reequiped 🙂
I hunted with this in Arizona mountains. It is good for deer and elk hunting since they are color blind. It probably should not be used for bird hunting since most birds see colors.
I’m sure it’s capable as a camouflage, but I’d be a little more concerned about the ability to find wounds with all those scarlet splotches.
Then again, what’s the likelihood of the Swiss of all people to go to war?
True. The Swiss didn't need to worry about wounds lol
well dam
You know what matches brown better than red? Brown.
Agreed
Having seen this & Belgian camo in many settings (including in fuel stations across Europe!) What i see is how striking they are. Therefore to me they are useless. If they stand out anywhere, it defeats the purpose of cam.
No camo is 100% effective in all environments. For example most modern hunting camos at distance become a single color and you wind up looking like a human shaped silhouette, especially in the open. Most military camo isn't trying to hide the wearer absolutely but is just trying to break up the human shape and be somewhat effect both in the open and in cover also while moving or stationary.
I just need to find a pile of dead red leaves to hide under. 😆
Your unemployed friend on a Tuesday:
If I was unemployed I'd be making a lot more videos 😉
Used a long coat in tall White Pines. I disappeared.
Red can look like blood/wounds....not a good advantage
i could pick you out every time , however if i was walking throufgh the bush i would be hard pressed to see you until you moved
3rd one was way too easy.
They were all pretty easy lol. My new video is a bit harder to spot me, but it’s mostly because I went further away.
your hide i found you all the time in about 3 sec !
