"If you like driving, that's why you buy Mazda". Perfect summary. Based on experience, I fully agree . As for the infotainment system, i was worried about the lack of touch screen, but 3 days in I already find Mazda system very easy and intuitive. Great car and review 👍
I'm tired of people complaining about the lack of a touch screen. There is a slight learning curve, but the dials and the buttons on the steering wheel are very intuitive. While using Apple Carplay or Android Auto the voice commands are fantastic.
Touch screen is a dangerous distraction
agreed, took a couple weeks for me but now its way faster and better than any touchscreen for me
“The soul of the Miata lives inside the 3 hatchback” - that’s brilliant! Bang on. Keep up the outstanding reviews, Cliff! You’re a tough act to beat in your field.
It's really annoying after all these years to continue listening to reviewers, complain about the lack of a touch screen, and the visibility around the c pillars. I have a 2020 all-wheel drive. The lack of a touch screen is only an issue for the first week or so until you become familiar with the controls. At which point, it is an incredibly intuitive and easy to use system(and keeps your eyes on the road...where they really should be in the first place). As far as the visibility is concerned, between the blind spot monitoring, and these crazy things called side mirrors, combined with a very useful rear view camera and cross traffic alert, I have had zero issues with visibility in the two and a half years I've owned the car. I understand these reviewers don't get as much time with the cars as they probably need to to become comfortable with them, but it really is a disservice to the car, and undermines the credibility of their advice. After two and a half years of ownership, I only have one complaint: no manual transmission in the AWD. Other than that, a fantastic car, and incredible value for money!
I wish that Toyota and Honda would offer AWD 250hp versions of their Corollas and Civic hatchbacks and sedans. This mazda3 is very interesting
they do....its called the GR Corolla and it has 300 hp
@@geo5106 Yep, from a turbocharged 3 cyl. Crazy.
I totally agree on the point of its Alfa Romeo ish appearance. The tail lights and the front end are reminiscent of the Giulia for sure, which I love!
This is how honda/toyota/nissan used to make their cars in the 90's. Made in japan, affordable, nice design/quality. Lexus and mazda are the only japanese car brand that i would buy today.
I've owned my manual Astina 2.5 hatch (top spec) in Australia for 3yrs and have no problem with the rear view. The dial for the infotainment system is perfect. Set what you want before you start off and then concentrate on driving not the bloody tech.
I like how he complained about it not being touchscreen and using the nob being an issue but he easily used it to show what there is throughout its selections
Agree totally regarding the strength of the engine and the steering and handling abilities of these vehicles. I'm driving a 2021 3 HB 2.5 Turbo which actually is the sweet spot for me. Substantially less expensive tan the Premium trim and I don't miss any of the options.
All is not rosy, however, as the miles start to rack up. The Bridgestone Turanza tires drive well but by 6000 miles they start getting noisy. I've found plenty of reviews of this a exact tire and it is a known issue with it. The caliber of sound deadening in the 3 HB is obviously insufficient to deal with the noise. By 10K the noise became terrible on all but the best road surfaces. Also, around 10K the ride began to degrade. Gone is that refined yet firm ride. Now it tends to be harsh and bouncy, especially in the rear. The area I live actually has pretty good roads so its not been subjected to rough and potholed roads. The strut valving performance at 16K+ is inexcusable for a modern car at this price level. It appears that when Mazda ditched the multi link rear suspension for a cheaper alternative, they did the same with the struts.
It's still an overall great vehicle. I just wish I had the money to replace these Turanza's with Michelin Pilots and could then convince the Service department that the rear struts NEED to be replaced under warranty.
I would love to see a Mazda vs Acura review. Two brands that use Automatic transmissions, driving dynamics, better reliability than Audi, and value luxury. Mazda 3 vs Integra, RDX vs CX something
Great car, good video, stellar host!
I'm so glad I bought this. It's not like another Japanese economy car. You sit inside and feels like you are in a luxury car.
This Mazda 3 Turbo is my dream daily car, like sure others are better but this Mazda offers everything I would ever need or want from a daily car ❤️ (I would take a sedan though, I've warmed to the Hatch's looks but I like to have good visibility and dislike claustrophobic feeling cabins 😅)
I think that dial infotainment control is for safety. U can control ur screen while on the fly. U dont have to reach for a touch screen and leave ur view frm the road compare to infotainment in the center.
Just bought mines today! Getting it before Jan 15… I paid 25,300 out the door
Still my dream car.
Gutted that we only get the asthmatic non turbos in the UK.
My only gripe design wise with the latest 3 hatchback is I feel like they either should’ve brought the rear window back a bit more or even faked a rear quarter window like the Miata RF does. There’s just so much mass and thickness between the rear window edge and the hatch IMO. I love how they styled the CX30, not sure why they couldn’t have designed the 3 more like that. Otherwise, I do love Mazda’s design direction in general. Their desire to take their brand more upmarket wouldn’t be possible without a design language to match and they certainly have that in spades.
I'm not sold on that wide C pillar on the hatch, but the sedan looks nice. I'd like to replace my 2007 Subaru Legacy with a Mazda 3 turbo AWD, since Subaru doesn't seem serious about building anything other than CVT driven slow appliances these days.
its worth it! Mazda rocks!!
I miss my hatchback, was totaled by a drunk driver! 😢 might go for another this year.
Wish yall can review the non turbo version
Who else really does this level of quality on a little economy hatchback. Really nobody.
"All a little hard to use without the touch screen".....what? I like the idea of using the rotary dials as am sure they click and snap snuggly.
I like this car... Sat in one and felt like I was in the cockpit of a sports car. Very low sitting and difficult getting in and out. Beautiful car though.
Did I miss this in the video? 0-60 in 6.4s
Would be nice to include this info...?
Is that an issue- or a decent sprint time- or why are you bringing that up?
Mazda Mazda3 Turbo AWD vs Subaru WRX video 😁
The Mazda is only comparable to the Civic - why not the Golf? Is it performance or cost?
The regular Golf is no longer on sale in the U.S. It's only the GTI, which certainly does compare to the Mazda turbo.
Wish they’d raise the roof-line just a little because I have the same issue getting in and out, and barely have an inch of headroom in the front with the seat at its lowest. Not an issue in the sedan, but I really don’t want a sedan. Maybe next year’s model 😅
Did you try with and without sunroof?
@@middler5212 Yup. Fit fine in all the competitors hatchbacks too.
Exactly! Im shocked that nobody is saying this, but i have trouble hitting my head getting in and out of the car, plus only minimal head room from the roof. and im only 178cm tall! this is a major bummer considering mazda 3 is my dream car.
Just to ask you again, is this problem better in the sedan version? If so im getting it!
@@zScrotumify Yeah, the sedan was better. Even the backseat had just enough headroom.
@@neeko.b oh really? If so I'll be getting the sedan! Not really having a choice here. The salesman over here in Malaysia is telling me they both are about the same
Mini Cooper JCW Automatic or Mazda 3 Hatchback???? Which one would you pick???
I was in the same boat last year. I live in Calgary Canada so car choices were slim with the shortage.
It was either a Countryman or the 3 GT Hatch for me.
The overall feel of the Mazda won over & the reliability is a big boon over the Mini.
Reminds me of my mk7 gti.
Australians miss out on the 3 Turbo. A real shame, too. I would have bought one instead I went for the Hyundai.
It's an Alfa that's reliable 👍
I’ve had 2 Mazda’s. I loved both of them, but they were constantly in the shop for repairs.
Needless to say, I’ll never own one again
What years? I had a 2014 Mazda 6 for 130,000 miles before someone ran a red-light. Never had a major issue.
@@shiftym1 87 RX turbo and a 90 Miata.
I bought both of them new
Had multiple Mazda in my life including ford era Mazda and ours still work tribute will be 20 years old over 250k miles and our other mazda still in the family all still work with high mileage. Ig you just got very unlucky
You owned probably the only problematic Miata ever made, lol
Hey Dave, got to reach out to you on this one. The problems that Mazda had with reliability (which was a real problem) was the result of their partnership with Ford. They have since broken that partnership, moved their manufacturing for most of their cars back to Japan, and have done a lot of re-engineering. As a result, two years ago Mazda took the second most reliable manufacturer place away from Toyota on consumer reports, which factors not only current models but historic. This means, for all practical purposes, 2018 and newer Mazdas are probably some of the most reliable cars you can get. I feel you on this, as in my younger life I had two rotaries, a Fiat spider and a Volkswagen scirocco that tried to catch fire. As a result, I won't drive anything that isn't in the top 10, most reliable. They've really gotten their act together over the last several years, and I thoroughly encourage you to give them another chance. Side note, they're now partnered with Toyota and even have a joint manufacturing facility in Japan as well as one in the southern United States.
IF calling "now that's design" something that ends up with a B pillar that stops your view as soon as you turn or a massive C pillar that completely makes you reliant on mirrors or cameras....then you really don't know what true successful design means.
and I love mazda...as I own 3.
I have a Jaguar and I can't see out of it, either. It's brilliant design, too -- in terms of form, not function. That is what I am saying about the Mazda.
@@northrollingacres yes...but i thought function was indeed an important problem to solve in the design of cars.
i think they blew it on the lastest 3 hatch.
it is like people always giving BMW a pass when describing the 3 as the perfect car and bashing many American cars when they never really had to include a functioning rear seat.
look, I understand the love...like mentioned, I own 3 mazdas...and i have a 08 135i and it is fantastic....as long as I just use the rear seat as storage
@@paulpellico3797 You're right. The problem with pretty design is that it usually sacrifices practicality. I wouldn't live with a 3 hatchback, but I love looking at it.
You said "really" 13 times.
Mazda3 hatch looks out of proportion ... Just ok ... Slainte' ! Cheers !
It reminds me of a pinto, a pinto on steroids.
Stopped watching at cargo space - "20 cubic feet compared to 13 on the 3 sedan"?! Neither is true.
Hey there, maybe you're referring to Cliff rounding down for brevity, but the 2022 Mazda3 sedan has 13.2 cubic feet, while the hatchback version from this video has 20.1 cubic feet normally and 47.1 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. Hope you come back to finish the video!
@@cargurus The standard mazda 3 hatchback has around 330l (less than 12 cubic feet) of usable cargo space/volume. The area above seatbacks should not be counted unless specified.
Nice car, but it's too small for my blood
The four door has class, front to back; now, the hatch just looks like a dog from the B pillar back and you couldn’t pay me to ride in the back seat for more than ten minutes. No way I would pay 36k. Imho…
I paid $16,552.00 new for my 2016 VW Golf S 1.8t and then spent $700 for a Stage one tune which puts the power at 243hp and 273tq. The Golf MK7 2door is lighter, has a nicer interior, and it gets 38mpg at 75mph. I'll pass on this car, but at least it's not an EV, so that's a positive.
Hatchbacks are so ugly and overrated
Terrific car, that rotary knob bullshit is a deal breaker though.
