An excellent reminder to start the downswing with the lower body. However the problem then becomes how you use the lower body to initiate the downswing. Unfortunately many (most) of us have difficulty turning the hips without also turning the upper body, so if you start the downswing as suggested here, with both a "bump" and a hip turn, there's the tendency for the right shoulder to also start turning and throwing the arm and club towards the target line.....thus encouraging over the top. For me at least, just a bump/weight shift on to the front foot is a safer way to encourage the arms to drop rather than come over the top....and then the hips and upper body turn naturally in response to the arms swinging.
Excellent job Don on explaining how to properly start the swing! This starting the lower half of the body, not the top half is reminiscent of how the baseball swing commences. An excellent reminder of how close the two sports mirror each other. Well Done Don!
I have heard and seen the concept of starting the swing with your hips. I see how it is done in this video. However even though I have been playing Golf for 46 years when I start the downswing with movement of my hips I am so out of balance that I either drive the club into the ground behind the ball or I top the ball. For some reason the movement shown in this video doesn't work for me.

I’m smiling as I look at that expanse of water etc in front of Don. I’d need a calming drill like this standing over this drive. Great tip!
Thank you Don, you are a gem!!!!!! Very much appreciate the video
This is one of the best demonstrations I've seen on this topic so far... crystal clear and concise... Thank you!

Thank you Sir!
Great advice!! Hope I can do it!!
I can do this with no problem in my practice swing. When I go to hit the ball, not so much.
Preach it, brother😂😂😂
Same here. Totally agree!

Great drill. I’ll try this later this morning at the range. I’m assuming this applies to all swings?
I'm to the point where I hit my pitching wedge as far as any other club in my bag.
Thank you so much ifr this simple insightful lesson which I was looking for 👌
This is great! Thank you!

Well, swing coaches have been teaching this since adam was a lad; and, it has never worked for anyone. If only you knew the secret.
