Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 2024 review: Cruiser | Does the best-selling family SUV better Honda CR-V?

- The 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is an almighty trendsetter. Back in 2019, mainstream hybrid SUVs were an unknown quantity in Australia, but then the low-emissions mid-sizer launched to unprecedented demand, which still hasn't eased some 4.5 years later.
That high level of interest in the RAV4 Hybrid has been for good reason, though, as it's one thoroughly impressive vehicle, managing to offer relatively low pricing, a long list of standard equipment, surprisingly good driving dynamics and, of course, high real-world efficiency.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Marcus Craft spends a week living with the RAV4 Hybrid's high-spec Cruiser 2WD variant to find out if it's still a strong performer in a sea of newer low-emissions mainstream family SUVs, including the Honda CR-V e:HEV and Nissan X-Trail ePower.

Yep, waiting for the update...looks like an industrial 🦖 dinasaur
Great review
Thanks but I'd take a Honda ZR-V. Similar on-the-road price. Points in the RAV's favour are better value for money, ventilated seats, the sunroof and a bigger boot with a spare tyre. The Honda is (in my view) better finished, has a nicer dash and an arguably better hybrid system (spends more of it's time around town in electric mode). It has heated rear seats as well as front. No extra charge for any colour. Cheaper services at least for first five years with internet connectivity to on- line services thrown in. The outward view is excellent.
We have recently bought a 2020 model and are very pleased with it. We are getting
around 50mpg, which I don't think is too bad for an AWD vehicle.
why does title says GXL?
I need exactly this car ❤. My dream Car RAV4.
930km of rage that’s pretty dam good my parents own a Kia carnival 2022 which has a 850km of range
By the way, it's an ecvt... It's a totally different technology than well known weak CVT!
Amen brother!
The Toyota e-CVT uses permanently meshed gears in a planetary gear set. Motor/Generator 1 regulates the various speeds of the wheels, engine and the larger M/G2. M/G1 spins forward or backward at up to 7000rpm to provide the ratios and regenerative breaking at the front.
I noticed in my AWD that the rear wheels are powered briefly when starting from a standstill, even at gentle throttle. The Prius AWD (not sold in Australia) had this feature too. This gives more grip.
M/G2 provides plenty of torque and reasonable acceleration before the engine is required. I haven’t driven a recent Honda hybrid but their design philosophy had always been to emphasise the engine and not have a motor capable of moving the vehicle beyond car park manoeuvres.
I have no love of SUVs but I’m pleasantly surprised at how good my second hand Cruiser AWD is. Handling is great.
@@BradleyTemperley thanks! Also the rear wheels are powered when turning corners, I notice. It's an amazing setup, sophisticated yet reliable.

I have this car but the AWD variant . One thing I’ll correct you can here the engine turn on and off. The EV aspect to it is very quiet. But the engine is loud
why does title say GXL
Looking forward to 2025 new version. The images that are being proposed look awesome
If you planin to buy my 25 probably you have to wait till 2028. Toyota australia currently is suing by lots of customer. There is no new car in Australia. They are just selling their car to some people who are trying to sell much much higher than recommended price.
Neat! 😎
Having had one on order for 18 months and then being told it would be over 2 years wait, I gave up and switched to the CRV Hybrid which came after 2 months. So glad I made the change. If you watch the US reviews on both models the conclusion seems to be the Honda is a better car all around. Don’t forget with the RAV 4 you get hit with the price increases while you are waiting.
wonder if that engine will go into a 70's series someday
I bought a new 2024 Honda CRV hybrid. I test drove the RAV4 and it’s nice but Honda I’d definitely built better. It feels better on the road and more like driving a higher end vehicle.
Hi, I am interested in the 2024 Honda CRV as well. Does it have 360 camera in build?
If only you could buy them.. 3 year wait plus $70k once ORC.. buy something better and dont wait. Good to see the review model they gave you had the "new" tech package.
I don’t think the colour choices you noted are right for the 2024 model
Just bought one! now to wait for delivery!
I'm eying one at the moment, what has the dealer said about delivery time? I don't trust the Toyota PR fluff they advertised about it being ~6 months
@Shizzle17 i was told 8 to 10 months but with no guarantees as to this
What is the point of reviewing a car that you can’t get for two or three years?
My only disappointment is CABIN NOISE 😢
Hoow does this compare to a Lexus NX?
NX is way more $$$, run-flat tyres, a better quality interior, a better sound system, and boot space is about the same size... same hybrid system, RAV 4 better value
Anyone to buy me this beautiful 😍 amazing car. Toyota is the best in everything. Answer my prayers 8
not a GXL tho, its a cruiser.
yeah good luck getting one tho. 1.5-2 year wait.
Guy at work sold his with 15,000kms on it for $6500 more than his drive away price 16 months earlier 😂
please change your title, it show GXL
titled GXL but review Cruiser
The quote "you had one job, just one" comes to mind 😅
Why do you remind me of that “Apparently” kid 😂
My biggest no why pay 51K when u can have a H6 top force 45K
👨🏿💻🍿🇿🇦
Hahhaha its not even a GXL 🤦♂️
Its a cruiser. Really dude?
really dodgy channel this one
why are you reviewing this car its not available just wasting viewers time
😂 when was it discontinued?? 😂😂😂
@@kanga1234567 try and buy one
Available, but with a very long waiting list.
Kia sportage is better 😊😊
Nothing beat Toyota hybrid efficiency. Only drawback I found with RAV4 is the long wait list
