"I love the teenage wasteland this game takes place in" I can't relate to the "having friends as a teenager" aspect yet it still felt very 'real', very "yeah I get it", and I think you worded why that's the case
I'm pretty sure the reason there's like 3 different versions was at the time Atlus was pretty much bankrupt so they put absolutely everything into P3. P3 practically saved atlus
@@digimonlover1632I think they meant that the original P3 saving Atlas is why they give it so much attention, like the people who were working there at the time who are still around and making decisions probably have an attachment to that game specifically, not that they keep falling on hard times and have to constantly go back to P3 to save them.
Persona 3 is atlus most beloved game due to the fact that it saved them from bankrupt p3 was supposed to be their last game if their sales wasnt enough to pay their collateral debt during that time hence why there so many re-releases from p3.
I didn’t think I’d like this game because it kinda just makes it into P5 mechanically, but the more I play it, the more I enjoy its own quirks. The last month of the game solidified it into a pretty good reimagining for my tastes. I already loved how they translated the kind of dreamy look of the school with the pink sky, but the rearranged version of Memories of The School that plays really nailed the vibe in a way the previous rearranged songs didn’t. I’ll fondly remember reading Aigis’ cute text messages she sends you, and just looking out the classroom window and listening to the music before doing her S.Link each day. Aigis-centric parts of the game in general are kinda the best parts. It felt like they wanted to present her and her story especially well. But like basically any remake I don’t think the new team fully understands the original from an artistic standpoint, but I felt like they wanted to make it as accurate as possible without keeping unpopular aspects that would hurt the game’s sales and never be allowed by higher-ups, like fatigue, AI only combat, etc. I like to imagine there was this one guy on the team that’s like “No, you CANNOT directly control your team or else it’s not P3!” After all, there was an interview with the producer where he said there was internal debate over how it should be remade, and how many developers on the team are fans of the game that didn’t work for Atlus back then.
Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I don't think it's possible to accurately re-capture the feel of an original when working on a remake. Like, never. I don't think it's been done. Games are shaped just as much by what isn't possible as by what is so it's better to use original works as jumping off point for new Ideas.
@@Rubyfallz I agree. But remakes will always be made, so I like to look at them as their own thing. In a weird way it’s kinda like there’s an art to copying art. Although I do hope new fans check out FES after playing this.
Reload is so bizarre for someone who's favorite game is FES. It feels like it changed too much and too little at the same time. I have to try to remember that it was never going to be exactly perfect according to my personal specifications, so in that perspective, not being a complete disappointment is a win in my book. Ill probably still go back to vanilla FES as a comfort game in the future, though. Really the biggest travesty is it being the 4th version of a game thats going to cost $105 by the end of it and it still doesnt have all of the major content from previous versions. Atlus really needs to chill with the anti-consumer practices.
I found P4 to me more teen team myself, its like playing a game of Scooby Doo despite the actual danger involved. P3 at least felt like the cast had to mature.
On some of this the ps2 version of P3 couldn’t come to the current platforms for an update because it was on the renderware engine (it’s owned by ea and basically locked in a vault rn good luck lmao)
I love Persona 4 and 5. I just finished Reload (1st time playing Persona 3). Amazing game! I feel like this remake was perfect for someone like me who could never choose between whether to play FES or portable.
I've so much good memories of the original (+fes expansion later) that I can't justify to play the reload. (not at full price at least!) I love the muted & dark colors, and like one of your recent video, I like the simplified look & models. The scale and layout of the levels feel like a 2d dragon quest/FF transposed to 3D. And the music/audio atmosphere... from the trailer reload feel too much like a p5 skin in my opinion. I think that a lower fidelity graphism with the right graphic & audio design beat more detailed realization. It leave more space for imagination & personal interpretation.
I think a lot of people just wanted FES in a new engine and honestly I’m so happy they didn’t do that. As much as I love p3( it’s my favorite in the franchise) I’d much rather see them take the characters, world, and overall story of p3 and do something new with it, because frankly “capturing the magic” of that game in a remake was always going to be impossible, as it is for any game. As it stands I think this remake is an almost perfect way to show how the series has evolved over time and honestly so far it’s proven to be the most fun I’ve had in a Persona game as a result.
Though this game is not my favorite SMT game i can see where you are coming from. I hope i will enjoy it just as much. Though i will still wait until the expansion pass is finished because i wnat to play the answer right after and still got the Persona 3 portable demaster to finish lol.
although i don’t agree with all of the reload praise, your video PERFECTLY sums up why the ps2 version is my favorite game visually (and also just in general). but also, since fucking w h e n did p3 let you visit the dorm’s attic??? one of the nicest looking 3d areas in the ps2 version (up there with the final floor of tziah, the top of tartarus, gekkoukan high school at night, moonlight bridge, and the environments of the colosseo purgatorio in the answer) and i have literally never zero recollection of this. oh now that i’m typing this i realize that it would’ve become inaccessible after the first full moon shadow’s attack which is why that footage of it is before that happens.
just checked in reload and i’ve actually been there already in this game since it’s where you enter the rooftop with the garden. didn’t recognize it from that video because it’s so bright now. so yeah it probably is visitable in other versions, only the rooftop is damaged.
Do most people who prefer Persona 3 played it first. I’ve played backwards from 5 and rank them in that order. Would be interesting to see why people prefer 3 to 5 as I think people who played in order would have have a very different experience.
i agree with pretty much everything you said except the awakening scene (i thought it was weaker than the original). no matter how many times this game is rereleased, it's always worth it. i'm partial towards the ps2 version as well, but i got a good kick out of reload.
For me I think persona 3 is very good but I’m partial to persona 5. Objectively I’d consider them about equal. The characters aren’t necessarily better in p3 they r a bit more generic and the story’s opening is a bit weak but the game’s consistently compared with p5 which is a lot bolder in its plot and mechanics, a lot cooler with its opening and has more interesting characters that are less consistently amazing like p3’s. I fucking love these games tho
@@Rubyfallz should have added the Mario oof for flavor. Just finished binging all of your content. I’m in love with your ability to convey so much while saying so little. @@Rubyfallz an SA remake I feel less so mainly because it's been accesible cause I feel like advance/rush deserve more of a chance and those games were sucessful anyway
Imo the dorm looks worse in the remaster though, it looks way to bright and inviting. In FES, the dorm had a more grim and lonely atmosphere, which I liked more. Also, I am very sad that they implemented Persona 5 combat mechanics with baton pass (Or "Shift"). Makes the fights play weird and makes it wayyyy to easy imo, I really did not like what Persona 5 added to the series. Other than that, the remake is amazing, but especially the combat really is a huge bummer for me. Imo, purely combat wise, FES is better by a mile.
I think you can set your companions to auto like it was in the original right? I vaguely remember seeing that as an option. I do agree about the dorm, I wish it was a bit darker.
@Rubyfallz you can switch to tactics, yeah. Also, they do allow you to make the environment darker so you can get closer the original vibe of the dorm in the settings menu. It's a nice feature although I don't know why they didn't just make it closer to the original in the first place.
I was gonna say, I messed with the lighting settings and got it to look good (honestly it looks closer to the P3 movies sometimes, which I am okay with) and yeah, if you want challenge it's still here. You can still play it original style where you can't control your party members, and play on merciless if you want to really engage in some CBT. To be honest, even with party control I feel some fights can still be challenging, whereas in P3P the party control just felt cheap to me as the game wasn't rebalanced around the ability to do that.
