    Tiny side note, in Pokémon games, you can in fact check the descriptions of moves mid battle, but only if you check from the stat summary page

      Yeah I had also had a moment of "What I think is 20 years ago: Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo" "What 20 years ago was actually like: Gamecube, PS2"
      A real Boomer Sanae moment. We're getting old.

    Oh Colosseum. I adore this game because it's still a unique Pokemon experience all these years later. It's a very divisive title as well as it contains numerous flaws that haven't aged the best.
    Purifying Shadow Pokemon after The Under is too much of a time sink, and is a total grind if you're attempting to obtain MATTLE Ho-oh. (but to be frank, almost all of the Nintendo-published Gamecube titles had this padding issue. Some way more than others, like The Wind Waker).
    All you do are battles, which if you're not the biggest fan of, the game will start to feel very repetitive, especially due to the execution of the shadow mechanics.
    Things like a lack of a move relearner, the very limited roster size before completing the game, and nearly half the TMs and all the HMs missing means you're limited in how you play. But this can also be a positive for some. Instead of seeing Pokemon for what they are in a collective, seeing them for what they could provide in an enclosed vacuum like Colosseum. For example, most people wouldn't give Furret the time of day outside of being an HM slave. But because every battle is doubles and Colosseum lacks field moves, Furret fills an interesting niche that it otherwise couldn't with moves such as Follow Me and Helping Hand being completely useless in a Singles format.
    The "long" animations, I never found to be a big deal, but I can see why others do especially since newer Pokemon titles have streamlined many aspects of Pokemon's combat. I think the main reason why people complain about the long animations is that saves are limited in areas in Colosseum unlike nearly other other title where you can save where ever you want.
    XD Gale of Darkness is a sequel most people prefer and you might too as it improves on Colosseum in nearly everyway. I feel Colosseum could go for a QoL ROMhack since everything is receiving something like that these days. The QoL could do things such as decrease the heart gauge of all shadow pokemon by at least 40%, increase the amount of Pokecoupons you receive from each Mt. Battle area by double, increase the average exp gain by 1.5 so it's like everyone is holding a lucky egg, and have some of the missing TMs accessible such as TM40 Aerial Ace and TM43 secret power.

    I think they said that this game was what they were going for, if Pokemon were designed in the style of a JRPG.
    It was one of my favorites growing up, and I just recently replayed it on the Dolphin emulator. It was still kinda grindy, but still held a good bit of that charm that I enjoyed as a young dude just enjoying Pokemon.

    • @anonanonymous9670
      @anonanonymous9670 Před měsícem +1

      I wouldn't call it the 'hardest'
      Pretty much every Pokemon game with a Battle Facility automatically makes it harder than Colosseum/Gale of Darkness
      Really the only challenging part of it is just the final boss and him being really overleveled if you don't grind for hours

      People in the comments have been telling me so yeah. I still found it very appealing even thouugh it didn't work for me as a whole. I'll definitly give Pokémon another chance in a future video.

For real, english was not required at all if you had 1 friend that could guide you a bit or a game guide/bible back in 2001 when there was no internet (GB color, Pokemon gen 1-2), now imagine with internet (which was your case). Skill gap i would say

    Disagree with the 3D models (All Pokemon from the first three generations are in the game with every single Generation 1 & 2 Pokemon having reused animations / models lifted straight from Pokemon Stadium & Pokemon Stadium 2 (Aka 251 reused Pokemon models & animations))
    As for the reason why people don't talk about Colosseum / Gale of Darkness?
    Well, the actual gameplay is pretty meh even by Pokemon standards, people say that the game is hard but it really isn't even if you only know a thing or two about Pokemon
    The Shadow Pokemon gimmick is cool at the first thought but in Colosseum it's just straight up bad, in Gale of Darkness it is better however
    You seem like the type of a guy who would much prefer playing other Pokemon spin-offs like Pokemon Snap, New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon & many others
    Pokemon will never not be a turn-based RPG, it is the franchise's core identity

    • @Rubyfallz
      @Rubyfallz  Před měsícem +1

      It's really cool how malleable the Pokémon franchise is. I'm like 100% certain there's a spin-off out there that I'll really like. I just have to find it.

    • @CaptainEffort
      @CaptainEffort Před měsícem

      Plenty of franchises have their “core” swapped around over time. The most recent Final Fantasy games decided to go realtime action over turn based, and Yakuza did the opposite, swapping from realtime to turn based with Yakuza 7.
      You also have less extreme examples like God of War going from a hack n slash style game to a more traditional stamina/timing based game. Monster Hunter did the opposite, going from a slower paced, more methodical style of game to a more traditional action game with World, then went borderline hack n slash with Rise.
      I’m sure there are plenty of other examples too, but you get my point.

    • @anonanonymous9670
      @anonanonymous9670 Před měsícem

      @@CaptainEffort Yes, I do understand that some franchises may change their core gameplay but Pokemon is different.
      I think they had their chance to change it when it hit 3D but they didn't so the turn bsaed gameplay is here to stay.
      Competitive Pokemon is also a huge aspect of the games nowadays and most likely the reason why the games will never not be turnbased (even to the point of getting rid of single-player elements so more people would play competitively)
      If there is be a non turnbased Pokemon game (that's also not a spin-off) then it will most likely be a Legends-styled game since they're treated as experimental projects.

    • @CaptainEffort
      @CaptainEffort Před měsícem

      @@anonanonymous9670 Why is Pokemon different?
      I’m also confused about your second paragraph. How does them not switching during the 3d transition mean that they’ll never switch? I’m not sure how you came to that assumption.
      And while I can agree with your take on competitive Pokemon, I’d argue that Gamefreak really doesn’t care about it as much as the community does. So if they ever considered switching gameplay styles, I doubt it’d hold them back.
