  • From LeMond snatching the Maillot Jaune from Laurent Fignon in 1989’s nail-biter, to Tadej Pogacar’s demolition of Primoz Roglic on la Planche des Belles Filles in 2020, the final Time Trial of the Tour de France always offers up drama. Today’s rolling 40 km route may well bring major GC implications.

7 years ago CZcams randomly recommended me this cyclocross video and I became a wout fan from the first instant. Now, years later, I happily own a bike myself and found thanks to that video my own relief of stress method. I’ve been watching this guy from when he broke into tears winning his first belgian championship cx in 2016. Now he is winning stages in the tour de france, riding in a wonderful strong team and taking the green jersey to belgium! Thank you for this year’s beautiful tour de france! I think WvA better dosed his efforts so he did a bit slower in the beginning but he kept is up the whole way while vingegaard gave more in the beginning and didn't have much reserves at the end, so he could just take it easy anyway since the 'win' was allready in

@@stiginshanghai This year WvA was in 5 place in polka dot jersey competition with 59 points. Just 13 points from first place. Thats nothing. He gets almost same amount of points like Geschke who try really hard for have that jersey. If WvA focus on collecting points, he is definitely capable of winning it. Problem with riders of GC like Jonas or Tadej is that they can get points only on last mountain in stage but not on previous hills in stage becouse they can not get to breakaway too soon.

@@stiginshanghai If Vingegaard didn't need to drop Pogacar on the last climb and van Aert went for the stage win, he would've had 79 points instead of 59. So he would've won the polka dot jersey just as well.

Bouquets and disappointments after stage 20.
JumboVisma with 3 stage wins for WvA plus green jersey by a mile, 4 days in yellow, and 4 second places plus a third in stages, 2 crucial stages putting JV into yellow and consolidating after team plan executed perfectly, plus CL stage win, and polka dots. Despite losing PR early, which helped JV, he stayed to deliver stage 11 planned attacks and JV would stay in yellow to Paris, JumboVisma 9.9/10.
UAE and TP close for most of Tour and 3 stage wins for TP and 5 days in yellow but two big battles won by JV finishing two tactically perfect stage wins from perfectly executed attacks that made up 3 mins deficit, and UAE and TP with reduced team could not reciprocate. UAE 7.5/10.
Sprinters teams claimed only 3 stages, plus 2 to Matthews and Pederson. 5/10.
Lotto and CE never featured and messed up stage 19 best chance 3.5/10.
Other teams with top 10 GC 7/10.
BE with Matthews added two second placings to stage win and team nabbed a sprint stage by DG 7/10.
IP had 2 stage wins 7/10.
Quickstep grabbed surprise stage 1 and held yellow for one day and won one sprint by FJ stage but empty for other sprint stages 6/10.
IG and FG will be disappointed with this stage 20 ITT result and opening prologue ITT as lost best chance for days in yellow. GT was solid but never challenged top two. TP won a stage but was there for GC and like AY who just got top 10 GC never challenged top two or even five. 6.5/10.

Nice show for this year's TDF! I do however have a few complaints to register: 1) Stop doing the covid testing. This year's tour was decided largely by covid tests. 2) Add a lot more TT kms, like back in the old days to make the yellow jersey more of an individual prize, OR Start giving a yellow jersey to all the members of the leading team and declare a winning team only, not an individual. 3) Cancel all the sprinting...No more sprint finishes allowed. The TDF is not about sprinting. There are other venues for that.
