" I'm not especially talented " ................ Then does an 18 min 10 ......
Fantastic result Olli !! ........ Note to self ....... forget the Olli gets dropped jokes !!!
My first 10 at over 40 years was 24 mins ( hangs his head in shame )
Anyway I'm trying to train for the Etape do Tour , my 3rd one
Lets see how that goes by Dec ..
Surviving my first 100km ride... 😅
30 km at 60 minutes :-)
Getting the FTP to 350w for as close to 1h as possible.
Getting home with someone to talk to !
I think you guys need to revisit that video series from a few years ago where Simon had to battle against multiple presenters whilst on his TT back. I think it is about time that Ollie had his chance of taking the crown.
quite agree
Not a bad idea!
Agreed! I love these TT videos. I actually ended up buying a TT bike because of them and it’s now my go-to ride whenever possible. #gcntech #gcnshow
Please do!@@gcntech
@@gcntechyeah this needs to be done!
What I love about this video is that is not a “how to” of riding an 18 minute TT, it is Ollie just naturally bubbling over with excitement and just a pure love of cycling. Yes, he has deep dived into a lot of nerdy detail in his quest, but his passion for it is just absolutely genuine. ❤ Did Ollie even have a script for this vid?
So, this guys did not only train for his longest ride ever he also trained for his fastest ride ever. Well that is impressive. Well done Oliver.
Double whammy! Ollie has been smashing it 🙌
ollie - i remember when the "dropped" jokes started happening at GCN and i truly admire how you quietly have just dug in and improved - and improved - and improved! and now you're on top. massive kudos to you.
Thanks for the lovely comment! He really is smashing it!
Hard work always pays off
And we're really only talking about two years aren't we? Have to wonder... is there more to come still!?
nb: don't make Ollie mad
Dr Ollie is great. I love him as a GCN presenter. But his excitement in this episode is undoubtedly the most excited I have seen him. Well done Ollie. Great episode.
Glad you enjoyed it! He really comes into his own when geeking out on tech!
Kudos Ollie! Love reaching goals.... Set some more!
Sub 18? 😉
I know the effort involved to achieve this time over 10 miles. I used to compete in 15 km TT’s and could not come close to that. 24.12 my best time. Ollie you are no longer an amateur cyclist. Well done.
Let's get him signed 😉
Oli forget all this tech faff, if you want to do 10 miles in under 18minutes just find a 10+ mile downhill segment mate. I did 10mi in 17:37 going down Haleakala and I barely pushed the pedals! Simple as
Brilliant. That would have beaten the national record up until 1992. Great planning and execution.
Well done Ollie, you’re on a roll. It’s amazing how the fundamentals of achieving a goal stay the same between sports. I followed many of the same training and preparation rules when aiming for a sub 3 hour marathon.
Good luck! Ollie has been smashing it
This is very impressive, to be able to do PB TT then go and do a 1000 k event takes dedication especially from a nine pro, inspiring to all of us trying to achieve a personal goal. Way to go Oli
A 1000 k? 640 miles? OOF!
He's a trooper that's for sure!
cheers! has certainly been a challenge training for those two very diffeeent goals this year!
Well done Ollie. I still remember your CW Sub-Engers 49-24 min, 25 mile TT from a few years back.
This is really motivating for me as I've just got the Wahoo Kickr and I was slightly worried that I'm spending too much time on it, but I find it easier to be consistent and train efficiently. I still get out on the road, but my goal is to get as fit as possible over the coming months and this just accelerates that process. Congratulations on that fantastic time, really happy that you have ticked off one of your goals Ollie...
Dude! That's an impressive achievement! Kudos on seeing the results of your hard work.
Hi Ollie, great ride on the F11/10, and thank you for sharing what you did, especially the training. I am trying, in my 50s, to beat (with “all the gear”) the club record I set on a steel-frame road bike without tri-bars etc back when I was a teenager. I didn’t get into the Hemel Hempstead event you did the 18 in, but I rode Tring a month later in the VTTA event and got just 24 seconds shy of my lifetime PB!
that’s mega!!! well done!🎉
Congratulations Ollie, what an achievement!! An inspiration 🎉🎉
The number of tabs open on Chrome at 1:06 keeps me awake at night 😳
Nice to see I'm not the only one disturbed by that 😀
Didn’t notice that before but now see that ☺️!!
More of this TT content please!!🙌
Our pleasure!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! And Whoa 🤯 mind blown thanks for the tips.
Great job! Thanks for sharing your achievements with us.
Impressive and as usual great to see your enthusiasm for the sport coming through in this video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Well done! 👍👍👍Bring me so much inspiration!
Congrats Ollie, thats a respectable power output IMO and very helpful info!
Very well done Ollie. Congrats and I really appreciate the video.
Thanks so much!
This was such a great video Ollie and congrats for the achievement!
Thanks a lot!
I haven't raced since the early 1990s but the best I ever managed was 22:56!
for that era it is super well time.
Not bad at all!
You’re beaming, Ollie! Chapeau, you’re an inspiration!
Top stuff! Keep it up with challenges and remarkable cycling undertakings :)
Thanks! We made a film on GCN+ cycling the furthest we could in 24 hours! Check it out here 👉 gcn.eu/24hrs
What a great, informative video. Thanks Ollie, much appreciated.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! For another exciting challenge against the clock, check out '24Hrs' on GCN+ 👉 gcn.eu/24hrs
Great work and presentation! It was long and technical and interesting so a winner!
Passion and planning. Brilliant.
glad you enjoyed!
Great video. Really intelligent, concise content. Genuinely useful.
Really outstanding achievement Ollie. Bravo.
Bravo, bravo, bravo..........................Ollie is a fantastic role model for us "everyman" riders. I love watching his success.
Congratulations, Ollie! I’m hoping you will get to try this on a three speed IGH as I suggested elsewhere. Well done!
Beautiful bike and great performance. The helmet size information is very interesting and a bit stressful. Makes one wish they had booked a date in some wind tunnel. 👍
Cracking video Ollie VERY informative !! Delighted you met your goal!! Your kit looks mint but I’d like to know more about your TT suit! Please race someone else on the old TT route Si beat ye on??OR they race you???
Well done Doc… personal satisfaction is a great thing for one’s self being…. Chapeau!
Congratulations on your achievement and then turning it into another great video. Superb job.
I wish to formally retract all my previous posts about you being dropped in various GCN videos. I meant those comments to be light hearted ribbing. But in retrospect they seem needlessly cruel and misplaced.
Ollie you proved me wrong and I apologize. Rock on brother! 🤘
Definitely love videos based on experiences of people setting goals and striving to better themselves. More of this!
(And less of the lately-ubiquitous "vs" videos please!)
Thanks for this Olly, applied the "go harder on the hard bits..." tip and took my PB straight from 31 to 33kmh. Just need to swap in the 58-aero-chainring for better chain alignment, and 52kmh is on the horizon. We've got this... Cool, entertaining video!
Congratulations!!!
It looks I only need a 26km/h tailwind.
Well done Ollie that’s fantastic effort 💪
I would love to see you do some road racing and see you get a win
wow that TT bikes over 15 grand😮
Happy to see this video as i know you were ao happy with your ride and the time done in my event. Glad to have helped in a small way! 😁
thanks for putting it on!! 👊👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Congrats Ollie. I’m impressed, really am. I like how you broke the goal down backwards like in Dan Bighams book, Start at the End.
Thanks for commenting Charles! 🙌
Congrats dude 👍
Cheers! Why not check out our '24Hrs' film on GCN+ for another epic challenge against the clock! 👉 gcn.eu/24hrs
Idea for a future GCN challenge video (would involve GCN worldwide - not just UK).
So the idea is to take an iconic ride from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia, North America & South America (so 6 rides)
This would be split as 4 hill/mountain climbs and 2 flats.
There would be teams of 4 riders - so there would be two riders from each team doing a double ride
Flat route is a minimum 40k
Winning team completes all 6 routes first.
rules.
the same person from each team cannot ride both flat routes
The routes can be ridden in any sequence, eg hil, hil flat, hill, flat hill however the next ride can only be started after the previous rider completed their turn
would have to be done on an indoor platform such as rouvy and the starting time could be chosen randomly so that there is no bias towards UK or European operatives
Great achievement Ollie, I love how you do the hard training work but mix it with the pure bike geekery. Do you think if you threw the rule book out the window and used something like a cadex for example how much difference that would make, or a recumbent, not a faired one. Would be great to see just what is possible, same route, any bike allowed. Keep up the great videos and achievements, your smashing it at the mo!
Oooo interesting! There could be a video in that 👀
@@gcntech I'm trying to figure out how to build a double geared bike like the insane bike land speed record bikes but with the choice to use it or just the regular gears with another derailleur for those long flats. 10 miles on something like that, be hard but fast.
Thank you Dr. Bridgewood!
You are talented 👍 great video thanks for the information
Immense effort Ollie - well done! Great analysis too, many thanks. Now get back in the velodrome for another hour attempt - 50km easy!
Now there's an idea! 🤔
Most inspirational GCN video yet. Well done Ollie 👏🎩🎩. #Legend
Thanks Stuart! Maybe he should try it on the Giant?
@@gcntech yeah 😃, if he can go that fast on the Giant I would be doubly impressed!
impressive pace my friend
My local course is quite sporting, and my PB I set this year was 25:23, which was nearly a minute faster than my previous (26:19). Next year I want to go sub-25. I had an iffy day in prep, so if I feel better I reckon I should nail it. I am going to run a disc cover on my rear wheel next year for the first time too.
Awesome! Sounds like you are going to smash it, when is the race?
@@gcntech My club course runs 4 Tuesday evenings starting late April (3 weeks between events) so multiple opportunities to aim for it. So a while away yet, got a few hill climbs to get through then starting the base miles training.
Well done🔥. Have you got a link to the bike check video? Wondering on your height and crank length
To me this is the best GCN video ever.
Wow, thanks so much! What else would you like to see us do?
@@gcntech I love all time trial related content best. I would like to see GCN make more videos about the pro teams/riders like (Remco EV, Ganna, Kung, Bissegger, Reusser, Dygert, Van Dijk) who develop and test equipment and training methods aimed at TT. I understand that this can't be released while the have an advantage over others, but you could film it and release it later (asap).
Simply , amazing achievement. Great kit, but I bet tons of hard work. Not many people could do this in the world
Great job Ollie 👍👏
Congratulations. Could you please make a video series where Ollie builds a budget TT bike? I think it's fair to say that most people can buy at least the helmet and skinsuit or get something tailored; however, that bike is financially unrealistic, honestly. If you get the position the same, then you could do a video to your time and see how much the technology can help. This video could then offer a list of upgrades in order in terms of cost performance.
did it a few years back! have you seen it?
strong work Dr Bridgewood.
The fact it’s 10 MILES at 52 KILOMETRES per hour, is really bugging me…
Ollie is so down to earth and humble. Such a fun and interesting presenter. Great WKG too Ollie! I mean where 90% of the people in Zwift make 5wkg all day everyday because they all seem to weigh 120lbs, he wouldn't be able to hang on in a B race; but whatever right? 😅
Thats awesome Ollie! I recently got my 3 mile commute down to 12 minutes. Now thats downtown Louisville, ky at rush hour. Is pretty good. Got in the door of work faster than my neighbor that left at the same time in his truck. 👋 Unfortunately the ride was a little dangerous and cant do that everyday because i might die. But lets say once a week, ill role the dice and try to get that time down to 10 minutes
Be safe out there!
@@gcntech will do 👍
Awesome ride 👌
Ollie - can you please explain how you managed to find a coach? Or any of us regular folk could find an online coach that can help us with our own development? Its hard to know where to begin.
Ollie, you are a talented rider.
Would be great to hear about your warm up routine as well!
Great video! I would be interested to know, Ollie, whether you did all your turbo training intervals in the TT position? I can’t find good advice on this but I think the answer is probably that we should train as we intend to race, so yes!
'Not especially talented' Ollie you have improved so much we can no longer make the joke about you being dropped. Proof that hard work and analysis of one's training really do make a difference.
I would say the last 1000km ride is more epic! It is also my goal to finish 1000km within 3 days in Audax event in my country.
A 1001km ride is even more epic
@@teamofsteve1002km, anyone?
Good luck!
Great stuff, Ollie! Is there a video of your sub-19 ride?
Congrats Ollie, great results! Big gains in your power over the years too. Was this on a DC road? What was your result with the Codatronca versus the Drone?
drone is significantly faster. it is on most, but not all people
most educational practical science video so far 👍
Well done Ollie.
Hi oliie, soley bike and core ,weight training play a part? also was the above plan 5 weeks out from your event with 1 week taper, for example? thanks
Fitting this amazing achievement was done on a Canyon.. an amazing bike.
Well done 🎉
have y'all ever considered trying out pitotstatic systems for determining airspeed? seems like a cool aviation tech that could be useful for this sort of thing
Chapeau sir
If timetrialling doesn’t work out for you, then there’s definitely a part in a remake of Spaceballs in the works with that large Dark Helmet.
Its easy to waych the Pro teams, and GCN ex-pros, and feel that the performance gap between them and us normies is insurmountable. But you have shown that with dedication and consistency the gap can be closed. I can't imagine there's much between you and Si now. I wonder who would be the GC contender in a GCN team?
I think Hank has said that Ollie has been besting them all for some time now!....
Si was at around 5.5 w/kg at his peak I believe, and he could probably get back to 5 w/kg (if he isn't there right now) with a few months of focused training
Very good! Congratulations on that!!! And now 55 next!
Lovely, genuine, honest video, so impressed with Ollie showing us his love and enthusiasm for cycling
How many of your training sessions did you do in TT position v sat up?
Congratulations on completing your TT mission, Ollie! 👏
I noticed you were wearing your Whoop during one of your indoor sessions. Is this your main source of heart rate or do you also wear an additional HR sensor around your chest? I was wondering what the variance is between the two and what you make of it. Maybe you could do an in-depth video on Whoop for training specifics like this @gcntech. Personally, I don't use the wristband on my Whoop for training, but rather the arm sleeve, which gives me much better and more consistent HR data. Wondering what your experience is.
Chapeau Ollie. Aiming for 50kmh before the year is out. Beta fuel nootropics gel in the warm-up for me. Also a slush if it's warm.
Good luck!
@@gcntech Got a chance on Thursday nights TT.
congrats ollie,
Nice one Ollie. Marginal gains for the (talented) every day rider. 👏
Ollie is no amateur to me.
Ollie for president...any presidency
Ollie for Prime Minister his commitment to improvement is a value that is something we should all aspire to ❤
love the combination of imperial units and metrics .... got to break out the calculator/conversion charts
16.1km!
Congrats to that superb performance. Chemists always achieve goals very analytical, right😉? I find it interesting that you have a quite high body position with a round back. Did you wear a RULE28 base layer? Did the Castelli perform as fastest suit on you? RIDE ON ✌
Great video
re the Met Drone how is the fit when going to a large? I usually wear medium in met
Bro says he's not particularly talented at riding a bike. Totally incorrect. He's a machine
fact remains - i could have the best training in and diet etc in the world and i’d never be a pro! I just try to make the most of what i have and enjoy it!
Great vid….be interested in a little more detail on warming up and whether you use rollers, a trainer or just ride the roads ?
good question. so i usually just use the road… but turbo is better!
question: why soft pedal through the round-about? Do you not have pedal clearance? Would it be better to maintain speed?
Love this vidéo with Ollie i learn many think !! I Hope i to a pb next week on a tt event . Can’t it possible to have a video Of How trainning for a tt event ? The ollie bike it a single power meter or double ?
