I had 4 miscarriages before they found the reason: sticky blood syndrome (antifosfolopidesyndroom). In my fifth pregnancy I took the babyaspirin daily plus fraxiparine (a blood thinner by injection) and the pregnancy was healthy and I now have a beautiful son.
I am currently on my 6th pregnancy and again on the medication and 10w3 and all seems to be going great so far.
Defenitely worth checking with your doctors after 2+ miscarriages as it was found with a simple blood test. Good luck mamas!

Every pregnancy starts out with a 3-5% chance of having a birth defect. This is called the background risk. Some studies have shown that taking high doses of aspirin during pregnancy can increase the chance for birth defects, but studies have not shown that taking low dose aspirin increases the chance for birth defects. Low dose aspirin is considered compatible in all trimesters of pregnancy when medically needed.
I have Factor V Leiden and Prothrombin Gene Mutation. Took Lovenox from my first positive beta, and even though my embryo was euploid, I had a blighted ovum and miscarried. In prep for my next transfer, my hematologist instructed me too start low dose aspirin now. I will also start the Lovenox when I'm pregnant. Really hoping this is the magic combo I need.

These things are more of a problem for the doctors than for the patients. My rule of thumb is: If you have a period (so blood can get out of your uterus) than sperm can get in

My mom credits baby aspirin with why she was able to carry me for as long as she was (and even at that, I was born early, for other reasons). She said that docs detected a blood clotting disorder and it was the cause of her miscarriages. I have varicose veins myself, so IDK if I would need aspirin to carry a pregnancy.
What about developing a subchorionic hematoma which is my much more likely (4-6x) to develop when taking low dose aspirin throughout the first trimester? I wonder if the benefits associated with the increased LBR outweigh that negative. 🤔 As a side note, I also just wanted to say thank you for your videos, I find them really useful.
Great question Amanda. The 2016 study from Ashley Truong and colleagues described an incidence of SCH of 40% of women taking low dose aspirin and 10% who were not taking low dose aspirin. (4 x greater incidence). The authors themselves listed some limitations of their study such as the fact that the ultrasound techs were not "blinded" as to the patients who were taking aspirin so there is the possibility that they were more likely to "find" SCH in the aspirin group.
More importantly, the authors did NOT report on the incidence of miscarriage in the two groups. The EAGeR trial data that I report on actually looked at miscarriages and live births. Presumably, some (many?) of the women in the EAGeR trial developed a SCH and yet the live birth rates was still improved.

It depends on why you are taking it. to reduce the risk for miscarriage, it should be started before conception. Beyond that, it doesnt likely matter

To reduce the risk for miscarriage, the first trimester should be adequate. However, there are potential benefits to the use of low dose aspirin later in pregnancy. Tis is something that should be discussed with your obstetrician

You may need more than just low dose aspirin. You should discuss anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome with your doctor
So I’ve had three children, 10, 8 and 5 and never had to take anything. But last year I had about 2 miscarriages and then found out I was pregnant in august of 2022 and I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant and I’ve been taking baby aspirin every day since I was about 5 weeks because I caught my pregnancy early. I’m just curious as to why I’ve never had to take any blood thinners during my other pregnancies but I have to now.. The data from EAGeR found a reduced risk of miscarriage in couples 1) with a history of miscarriage and 2) who started the low dose aspirin before conception and continued in early pregnancy
