I truly think the reason why BIGBANG are the KINGS OF KPOP is because of the fact that they broke the norms. They made so many firsts in the industry and even though other groups have flourished today, those who have amazing mv views and numerous fans, they just broke records but they weren’t the original ones. BIGBANG was the first of its kind. They had no advertisements whatsoever and as the CEO of Antenna, You Hee-yeol, said they are the group that can be said as a natural. Not manufactured. Natural. Their title is even acknowledged by Korean and news stations, even CNN. There are fitting titles for each one and you could have your personal opinion about it but you could never erase the fact that BIGBANG are the KINGS OF KPOP.

I think other groups nowadays made it big more easier than groups before is because with the fact that social media is so hype in this era. Social media took a big part of how they are well promoted but the fact that BIGBANG made it big and very well know without the crazy hype of media makes it more awesome. They were able to create names on their own more likely because of the word of mouth.
If someone said BIGBANG are KING OF KPOP majority agree it's because of what they did to kpop you can't get that title by just being popular and breaking some records. Maybe everyone well said that their group are king of kpop well it's just to their fandom. And we have GDRAGON here the true King of kpop recognized by Korea, by the world.

During Big Bang's generation (2nd gen), they shared the pedestal with the likes of Super Junior, TVXQ (all still active) and SHINee, Girls Generation (also known as the Nation's Girl Group, original best selling korean girl group before Twice took the crown)(both on hiatus). There are also disbanded groups like Wonder Girls and 2NE1 (2NE1 is considered Queens of 2nd gen, the girl group equivalent of Big Bang, they are from the same company). ALSO FUN FACT G-DRAGON INVENTED THE LIGHTSTICK.

Bigbang is the 1 biggest inspiration Almost all of the kpop idols and trainees.
No, it's no all kpop groups sound like this. Even in their 2nd gen. Only BIGBANG is☺️. That's the reason. They debuted back in 2006 and did hiphop popular in Korea. Their early works are so about hiphop, especially LALALA (debute song). Then they became the first who began to write and produce their own music. Now it's pretty spread among kpop artist to do things like that but when they debuted as idol group no one did. BIGBANG has two rappers: GDragon (leader, who write lyrics and participate in producing the most) and TOP (the guy with deep voice. Check his solo Doom Dada , please) Almost all rap parts in BIGBANG songs are written by T.O.P. Vocal line: Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri. (All their vocalists have unique sound and good techinique). All members have successful solo career. The only member who haven't got an album (and we want it, cause it will be lit!) is main rapper - T.O.P. Fans are really looking forward to his album (he has only several solo singals).
Now BIGBANG have only four members.
But there is no any new pieces from them as four. Last song "Flower road" was released more than two years ago before their military service. Seungri left because of some controversies and problems with law year ago. (Mostly all are cleared and he isn't a part of what people thought he is, but not all allegations are cleared yet). Fans have very different attitude towards this fact. I'm saying this just because there are a lot of opinions so I hope you will be accurate with words about it cause there are fans who support him and want to see them as five (they have a history as five for 13 years, why can't they?) and others who believe he did wrong. It is really complicated if you want you can do a research, if not - no. It's up to u. The only thing I want to add if u will do research remember: BIGBANG are always hot issue in SK, even now.Every single thing they do, say, post on IG (even captions to posts!) turn out to be an article with loud title. So look at articles that are based on official statements not journalists opinions.

From what I understand, bigbang is part of the second generation of kpop. I don't really know all the distinctions between the generations but I know big bang have always been ahead of their times and unique in both their sound and their visuals. And I think that is due to the fact that they were allowed to write and produce their own songs. As I understand, other agencies don't allow their artists to do that

They are called king ‘cause they are one of the first k groups to sound out of Korea and make it huge. They went on on billboard without any promotion and won at mtv music awards. They are huge HUGES SENIORS to Korean idols. So yeah they Kings. They also had creative freedom almost since the beginning and not every Korean group can say that.

It's a title not just given by fans, the music industry also knows it so well.
The comment section has probably flooded you the reasons. This group's seriously influenced the 2nd and third-generation from the get-go. And not just that. They've started changes in Kpop and started so many trends which the Kpop/idol industry has completely adapted. They are like the rebels among idols. They are the idols of idols. They don't go along with the flow, they create their own.
You mentioned that they are different. That's true. A lot of idols nowadays are doing the same format as the old days. That's why I love these guys so much. They don't need to dance like crazy anymore. All they need is their voice and stage presence.
