@@paulhark5631 when designing a new car isn't there always a reason, its like they just got bored, if the bmw logo was not there you'd think it was a Toyota.
2019: 1 series is now front wheel drive
2020: 2 series is now front wheel drive
2021: 3 series is now front wheel drive
2022: BMW stops selling cars and now sells grills that have wheels on it and is of coarse FRONT WHEEL DRIVE.

@GT Suryateja Haldex is crap on the smaller cars is crap, it cheapens the Quattro name. Torsen is good.
BMW XDrive on the 3 series(and up) is rear biased on the 2 it's like a Haldex it sucks.

The engine is mounted transversely, meaning your BMW is now an Audi

NutriFIT nutritie si fitnes normal big Audi’s are still transverse, only the S and RS models with torsen Quattro are longitudinal, but none of those since the B7 RS4 are available with manuals, absolutely ridiculous.
@NutriFIT nutritie si fitnes mmno every audi is either fwd or quattro and you don't get quattro as standard even on the A6. That being said fwd is good enough for 99% of the population. Only the diehard people who think they're drift master are complaining

The overall body silhouette looks like a Toyota economy car. It does have taillights and headlights that look BMW
Loving the BMW interiors at the moment but whoever they have recruited to design them externally needs firing
And the HORRENDOUS gauge cluster!!! I get it that Merc and Audi are now full digital and they both do an AMAZING job with it. But BMW feels like its 3 generations behind with the "digital dash." Like jesus.... You can have the navigation on it but its a tiny little part in the middle. Where the others can be THE WHOLE SCREEN basically!!! Whats the point of a full digital dash if the speedo and tach still take up 80% of it and they cant be moved!!!???
With my nearly 3 year experience with an MSport X1, fear not; BMW knows how to make superb transverse FWD based cars. The chassis control is excellent, and the space efficiency rewards are very apparent.
Front Wheel Drive...?! Forget it. If I pay BMW money, i want it to drive like a BMW!!

@@fayahmad9063 BMWs handle and drive the way they do because they are rear wheel drive. With Front Wheel drive and even fancy suspension set up you cant get close to the same driving experience.
You're Right but... why can’t you get close though? If the hp and torque is good not too bad is it
@@fayahmad9063 Good question. HP and Torque are okay for straight line and steady speed in Front Wheel Drive. But in Rear Wheel Drive HP and Torque are lots of fun and you can have more HP and more Torque too. On corners, pulling out quick on roundabouts, RWD is waaaaaaay better.
RWD is better when it matters, but for general driving FWD is fine. But if 'fine to drive to the shops' is all you want, then may be better to buy a golf or a merc or an audi.

Douglas Harris agreed ;) I don't understand why there are so many haters out there.. I too drive F36 (which I return ti BMW financial in 1.5 months) and a 2018 X6. I was originally waiting for a new generation of a 4 GC, because I really love my f36, but it's getting a bit outdated. But this one doesn't look bad at all!
Actually, it DOES have more in common with the active tourer and NOT the coupe. The GC is based on the same UKL chassis as that car - the 2 coupe is based on the previous 1 series which was based on a previous 3 series.
Indeed - it shares bugger all with the coupe which is a true RWD platform. This shares more with a MINI!

The interior of the BMW is nice, the interior of the CLA is stunning, the exterior of the BMW is fugly, the exterior of the CLA is gorgeously. So who would buy one, oh right people who want to get into a brand no matter what.

A premium interior finish including trim on the inside of the doors to conceal the exterior paint colour but can you tell me if the fancier grille still has the louvres that open similar to the vertical slotted grille on the new 3 Series?

I love the look of the 2017 3 series the 2019 3 series wasn't really my type but when I saw the 2020 2 series 235i that is the go to car as it has 306bhp like my 335i 2008

I get how this model sits in the range, whether it's liked or not. You've explained it well however IF there's more space in the rear due to FWD, you didn't mention how it compares to the x-drive spec which I'm kinda interested to know. Transmission tunnel?

Cons: fwd = less engaging to drive and less comfortable for rear passengers due to the lack of weight on the rear

I like this too. Currently have M240i. Live in in London with wife + 2 teenage kids. Don’t want a big car - 3/4 Series are now as big as the old 5 Series. Current car ticks almost all the boxes but the practicality of 4 doors would be perfect. Not too hung up on the switch to XDrive - I was a struggling for traction this morning on wet Autumn roads - suspect ew model may be more assured to drive albeit not as ‘exciting’ as the current. First world problem !

I bought 1 yr ago this car. Yes, is quit nice! But... is a 2 series, that means it has not so many and qualitative options. I am wondering if you can close (down) tre trunk lid by foot as you can open it. (At least this is written in the book, but it doesn't work). And, can you have favorites mobile numbers as speed dial? (I did not find this option)

To all the people complaining about BMW making a front wheel drive car, it's no different to when Jaguar brought out a diesel or Porsche brought out an SUV.
This is a concern. Does it mean the replacement for the M240i coupe is also going to be a transverse four cylinder?
BMW are going to keep the next gen 2 series coupe RWD it will be a evolution of the current 2 series coupe rather than being based on the latest FWD 1 series.

Nah I’m with you as well. I’m absolutely loving the design direction BMW is going in atm (although I absolutely cannot with the huge grilles they’re putting on their cars higher up in the lineup 🙅🏼♀️)

You are actually wrong, it isnt a 4 door version of the 2 series coupe, its a gran coupe version of the active and grand tourers because it has fwd just like the active tourer and the grand tourer, it has just as many doors as those two, it kinda looks more similar from the front then with the coupe, and it only has 2L engines as the active and grand tourer versions
As I've now left my 70th birthday way behind and having grandchildren who keep on growing, I'm wondering whether I should move on from my Audi TTS. Perhaps this would be a good practical option?
Then I think "would I enjoy it as much?". Probably not - sod it, I'm staying put for the time being!

I've waited 15 years for a 4 door 1/2 series and I'm... disappointed. It's not a pretty car for sure I think it's that's short bonnet but the interior is spot on. Maybe in a nice colour and with the 240i engine I'd be persuaded. Good review as always

As for the car. It's the only BMW that doesn't have a completely absurd grille.

I quite love the intricate designs that manufacturers are doing with the ambient lighting these days. This might be my favorite one yet. Way better than just plain LED strips everywhere.. this looks way more thoughtful and artistic and I'd love to have friends ride with me and see stuff like that
They should have just make a 5 door version of the M2 Competition which is their best looking car at the moment...

Good review, but parroting other reviewers who talk about it being based on a FWD platform( which has no bearing on how it drives), or speculating about torque steer( it has none), only distorts reality about this car. It is a total blast to drive. Do I care that my engine is mounted transversely? Not one bit. It is meaningless chatter. Who cares what direction it is mounted. Is it good looking? Completely subjective, but I like it a lot. I am averaging close to. 37 MPG ( US), and even used the eco pro mode a few times on the highway. Is it quite as well detailed as a 3 series? Not quite, but pretty darn close.

This should’ve been based on the 2 door coupe since all the other grand coupes are based on 2 door coupes. This should’ve just been a 1 series sedan. Sedans are odd numbers and coupes are even. This is clearly a sedan
