      I believe he writes the script.
      And knowing this still does not make the game fun just because you know this. The problem with Death Stranding, is that it isn't actually fun, the game is actually a chore to play, your challenges are clunky gameplay coupled with too much rocky mountainous terrain and a very depressing story.
      It just makes the entire experience, not fun to engage with. Games are supposed to be fun, this just fails at being fun.

    • @Posit_Zero_Blue
      @Posit_Zero_Blue Před 2 lety +101

      @@rezarfar Fun is subjective, bro. We all know enough about DS to know this isn't a game for everyone. You reasoned why you personally don't like the game...and that's totally cool. I can see where you're comin from.
      But that subjective experience doesn't equal objectively a bad or unenjoyable game. It's just not as an accessible a game as Kojima's other stuff.
      In movie terms...I think a lot of people wanted or were expecting a summer blockbuster, but Kojima gave us an art house film instead.

    I got this game as a gift when recovering from surgery. It was a hysterectomy, so playing a game caring for a crying fetus and the frustrations of falling all over the place wasn't exactly a welcome distraction from my situation. I put the game aside, and in the meantime my husband picked it up. He too quit after a short while! Then, he eventually got back into it and convinced me to try again. Now it's one of my favorite games of all time. I've finished all the trophies and am going back to play from the start again. It's significantly less frustrating this time, and a more healing experience too, helping me come to terms with not being able to have children. (It's OK though, I have a dog and lots of love and happiness.) Best review ever - you've gained a subscriber! Keep on keeping on 👍

    I rebuilt the entire highway by myself by claiming supplies from the different places, raiding the mules and driving around in a truck to deliver them to the stations. Up until that point the game was annoying. Then I realised the whole point of the gameplay was to make traversing the environment easier. Finished the story now but will go back and create a network of ziplines to take people to every city and npc and then get every delivery done.

    The ending really drove this in for me. There was a moment when navigating the last delivery that it seemed like I couldn't make it. I didn't have many supplies for the long trek initially, time fall rain was everywhere and BTs where flooding the entire area. Worse yet I couldn't fabricate anything new. So I was running as quickly as I could not to lose the package as I wasn't sure what would happen if I did (I thought maybe there was alternate endings and i'd get a bad one). And then i'd stumble onto a barely operational time fall shelter made by another player. There was something I experienced in these moments when complete strangers saved my ass and they had no idea. The hand full of likes given can't really convey how much I appreciated it. And then it dawned on me how there were probably countless players that experienced moments like these in all these structures I've seen dotting the landscape. Gone was the perspective that these were just meaningless fake internet points. I finally realized that countless players experienced moments like this. All those structures dotting the landscape looked completely different. Even the one off ladder with 20 points seemed like it was likely very helpful for another player. The game has it's problems but it's still one of my favorite games of the last decade.

      what's been wild is going back on PS5 and experiencing the same kind of thing. there are still people playing/replaying, and those moments still regularly happen; the purpose of the game lives on even now

      Sadly a lot of players focused on placing structures in locations where they'd farm likes from NPC porters, and the spam of signs in roads so you have no option but to trigger them with a like as you drive by. These like farming structures prevent a large amount of actually helpful ones from spawning on people's worlds unless you manually veto your list of connected players to try to get rid of the useless farmers. But other than that... I absolutely love this game, I keep playing it again once in a while.

When you see 3+ abandoned reverse trikes 2 sections away from the next Distro you cant help but feel a little bad for them. So I did the stupid thing and made sure those sections were built. Robert Dillinger I generally have the same mindset as you. I’m someone who doesn’t like “online multiplayer” experiences, so I had no interest in using other people’s stuff. I wanna play games for myself.
      But once you see how brutal and taxing the world and game mechanics (in a good way) are, you change that mindset real quick. It’s genuine joy to see a ladder or Bridge built by someone else, when you’ve run out of the tools you need to finish the delivery. And it’s genuine joy to build something that could potentially save hundreds of other people during their gameplay.

      I believe it's somewhat similar in the way MGS changed me, its pacifist stance, it making a statement of how you don't need to kill in the game, so avoid doing it, and the guilt trips it sends you on for doing it, even if sometimes minimal, does work in its favor
      This is one of the reasons why I don't like multiplayer games where you just have to kill everyone and instead prefer games where killing is optional
      When I play pubg, I do it stealthily to avoid killing someone unnecessarily, because the goal isn't to kill but to survive, unlike most FPS games where the goal is to kill(or capture the flag or whatever)

      Typically I don't enjoy survival mechanics but I thought they were executed well in this game and the story was fantastic. I found it to be very fun and I think most people who were patient and stuck with it had the same experience. I also loved the shared game mechanics.
      At the end of the day it's a single player game offering 40 plus hours of content and no microtransactions. Kojima was very upfront that this game was going to involve a lot of walking and traversal. He could have shown raids on mule camps and boss fights but he didn't because most of the time you're trying to navigate a harsh and unforgiving environment with the help of your own supplies and the structures and items left by others.
      Getting upset with someone for trying to make something different is dumb. Some of the ideas present in the game are going to influence other devs and improve other games too. That's a good thing.

      I think TLOU2 is in a different league here. it tries something bold that can only be judged by the subjectivity of the player, DS however is objectively bad in trying something new. I have seen enough of this game to see the game is highly flawed and doesn't offer you in sort of creative freedom in it's 1 singular objective of delivering mail, and that the best thing about this game that GR here talks about is having other people help you skip the game by making it easier to move around in.

      @@TimeBomb014X I mean, i agree with your sentiment on the 2 games, but your analysis is hypocritical.
      If we were to distill tlou2's gameplay down to its simplest form it also has 1 singular objective "kill your enemies" and the best thing about that game is forcing the perspective of someone u hate on u through gameplay.
      Tlou2 definitely isnt impervious to objective criticism, u cant say that just because its forceful narrative decision is something new that can only be attempted in video games and therefore u can only judge it subjectively. Thats just conformism.
      Just to reemphasize i LOVE tlou2, but it can definitely be "highly flawed" depending on how heavily u weigh its negatives

    • @TimeBomb014X
      @TimeBomb014X Před 3 lety +1

      @@mfyippekiyay728 Oh it is highly flawed no doubt but the difference here is that gameplay loop of kill your enemies is enjoyable because of how tense each encounter can be and just how you can lose control of it and be forced to improvise. Death Stranding not so much, DS needed to be more like BoTW in the freedom it offers you in how to deliver packages, I've seen vids of the clunkyness of the traversal and how the game simply doesn't reward creative thinking. And for a game like DS where all you do is deliver packages that is the biggest mistake it can do

    • @weaverquest
      @weaverquest Před 3 lety +14

      @@TimeBomb014X Death Stranding offers a plethora of tools, vehicles, and structures you can build to plan out and most efficiently deliver your packages from A to B. I have never seen such in-depth mechanics for traversal alone in a game and the physical complex terrain in DS accentuate that gameplay aspect. The way the social systems work where the structures built by players can help overcome obstacles for others and they can give positive feedback pretty ingenious. It incentivizes you to get creative at finding best places to build the right structures in a way that not only helps you but also others and when you start to get tons of likes knowing you are helping other players it is surprisingly rewarding. Overall I find the traversal much more engaging in DS as opposed to Zelda BOTW's which consists of slowly climbing with no real challenge besides watching a green circle deplete and then paraglide to the direction you want to go then rinse and repeat. That got old for me pretty quickly. Also when you build roads in Death Stranding (or use ones built by others) you can blast through the game world at very high speeds with high-speed bikes whereas in Zelda BOTW traversal is really slow all throughout the game and highly depends on fast travel to shrines to not get annoying.

    • @TimeBomb014X

      @@weaverquest so the best part of the game is when you skip the game is what it sounds like. Also play Breath of The Wild if you want true freedom and creativity in the game mechanics. I've seen footage of how vehicles are woefully undermined by the terrain in a bad way. But for me the moment I knew DS failed to give players the tools to Travers it's world was when a player created a bridge out of ladders so he could drive his car over it, but instead of actually driving over the ladders or they break under the car's weight, the car instead clips right through them and falls off the cliff.

I personally loved this game, and I never played a Hideo Kojima game before. I always dabbled in games that had a narrative, and I was honestly scared of getting into this game because of the negative reviews and how people were saying this game was boring. I'm glad I stuck with it. Yes, the game has its flaws and the gameplay can push people away and that's fine, this game is not for everyone and there are things in this game that some people will hate and some people will love. Death Stranding was an experience for me, there was lots of frustration, tears, and happiness, and to my fellow porters who built bridges, ladders, generators, postboxes, timefall shelters, and much more thank you so much. You made my experience and journey a worthy and beautiful one.

      You just use the PCCs to build for yourself, or to try and farm likes for link upgrades. It's a gimmick, not meaningful interaction like you might get in an MMO. It's no more personal than Twitch chat or Twitter.
      It's a seemingly intentionally painful experience to make you happy when you see other people's randomly selected structures or pieces of story. The game conditions you to tolerate it's misery over many hours just so you can be overjoyed when it gives you some scraps. It's Stockholm syndrome the game. Very interesting from a psychological perspective.
      If you manage to see past that, you'll find holding the stick forward over a bridge isn't exactly fun and that waiting to pass between zip line tethers is just, well...waiting. You might also realize just how bad the story is.
      If I wanted to play with others, I'd play WoW, Minecraft or Destiny. If I wanted a travelling game I'd play Journey or Shadow of the Colossus. If I wanted a story game I'd play Detroit: BH or Heavy Rain. Remember that this game has zero player choice despite *over nine hours of cutscenes*
      The only thing that this game does well is manipulate people into thinking it's better than it really is.

      The game you mention btw I have played, DBH, Heavy Rain, and Minecraft and those games are good. I did find the lack of choice in Death Stranding quite disappointing, and if it were to be implemented maybe it would have more impact but who knows?
      When it comes to this game to each their own, and agree to disagree because I personally loved this game. There are plenty of games that will fill everyone's needs in regards to story and gameplay and this one may not be the one for everybody or have people see eye to eye about.

      I bought the game on day 1 but due to university did´t have time to play. But when quarentine happened, that was the perfect time to resume the game. I really enjoyed it.

      The question is whether she should review the series after all of the story or just one at a time. It's a story intensive game and V3 is like my favorite and I'd like to see her review that one
