While it is mostly played for laughs at how effortlessly he crushes villains, just how powerful would Saitama be if he actually tried to exert his full strength? Saitama certainly went more serious than usual, but that doesn't mean he was putting in serious effort.
I seem to remember that it was implied that he was pretending to use the serious punch to make Boros feel better about loosing.
I think the only thing in the "serious series" we know for sure hes actually used was the "serious sideways jumps" in season 2. We actually saw that. Lol

According to Blast the collision between two Serious Punches could destroy the whole planet at least. But when Garou tried to kill Saitama they nearly broke the barrier that seperates Saitama's dimension from Blast's dimension.
So, it's even possible that Saitama could destroy the whole universe with a Serious Punch depending on how serious he gets.
I watched this in 2019, and now I’m watching it again after learning grade 11 physics, feels good to find the equations familiar.

The question gets even weirder when you look at some of the promotional/explanatory stuff. In it it was stated that Boros was already planet killing level with his restricting armor on. The explanation for his downplaying of the power of his final attack was due to him having developed the attack long after putting on the armor and not truly knowing how strong he was.
Uhm, in the end of the fight Boros states that Saitama didn't even try to beat him but simply held back to get some excitement.

Considering that he traveled from the moon to earth in ~19 seconds, that's also about 3x the speed of light. So if his body can handle that, he can escape the power of a black hole, therefore withstanding it. His power goes beyond physics. My point is, saitama has no weaknesses that would endanger HIM.

Could you explore just how powerful Saitama's punch "could" be regarding the fact that Saitama was effectively punted to the moon and shrugged it off? As in what might be your hypothesis should his offensive kinetic energy be equal to that of his defensive kinetic energy?

Fizz The "you were" makes it seem like Boros could potentially see someone beating Saitama and that Saitama was just too strong for him. The "you are" presents the idea that no one should be able to fight Saitama, or better put, Boros can't even imagine anyone else on such a level.
First meeting Boros, we learn no one was a challenge for him. In his mind, he is too strong and he can't enjoy the exhilaration of a fight. Then he met Saitama, and now he feels bad because the boredom he felt before, is definitely nothing compared to Saitama who got no excitement from that fight at all despite how insanely powerful Boros is.

Honestly though I think a more interesting way to try and evaluate his strength would be to examine the jump back from the moon. Although you would think this would just be the same as whatever put him there in the first place id suggest thinking again. Not only does his initial launch from the moon leave a massive explosion of debris but he comes back and lands on a ship the size of almost the entire city and causes it to seriously shift. A ship which would be about the same size as a imperial star destroyer from star wars and would have enough thrust or other force required to keep the ship floating over the city with minimal effort. He not only comes back from the moon but lands on this ship hard enough to make it tilt several degrees. Which means he not only had enough kinetic energy in his body to return to earth in about the same speed he left it but had enough leftover to overcome an entire cities worth of solid mass and whatever suspension that was keeping it in the air.

Have you read the book, "What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions?" It's by a guy called Randall Munroe (who also makes the webcomic XKCD) and its title says is all. Each of its chapters tackles a different what if question. My favorite is probably the chapter about throwing a baseball at the speed of light. I can't read it without bursting into laughter.

2: As my colleague here said so elegantly, development of future technologies begins much, much earlier and takes far longer than you could imagine.
3: CZcams was still extremely small back in 2009 and before Google had acquired it. The likelihood of someone saying this with a specific year in mind improbable.
4: Anime culture was not widely acceptable until relatively recently, meaning that the probability that someone would say this becomes even slimmer.
5: The joke isn't funny, objectively. The effort of the joke can't be defended with, "Just because you didn't laugh doesn't mean someone else did," simply because memes like this are incredibly dull and horrendously overused. I think you've underestimated it by a pretty wide margin. The difference between the serious punch and a volcano is the amount of material being displaced.
In the volcano, the material gets pressurized until it is too much and it bursts out. The amount of material shooting out would be able to displace more of the atmosphere more easily because it's more voluminous. The pattern of force would be similar to a balloon stretching outward at high speed.
When you consider the serious punch, you have to think about the size of the object applying the force. In this case, his fist would have made contact with a much smaller quantity of material, given the size of his fist and the distance it travels. Force is also largely being applied in a single direction. He's also standing on a ship up in the sky, where the air density would be pretty low to begin with. In order for the quantity of air he makes contact with to have that effect on the planet, the force being applied to it would have to be an incredible amount higher than what you described.
Of course, you could make the argument that there is some kind pressurized substance in Boros' blast that he makes contact with. If that were the case, and he was punching against a pressurized substance, then the force would probably be more 'reasonable', for lack of a better word. Let's call it anime reasonable. Still a lot more than you estimate, though, I would think.
No it would still reqire the same amount of force, the thing is that saitamas punch needs to be much faster. He meant that the energy was constant so if m gets way smaller then v gets bigger it's (mv^2)/2=E . The energy needed to move air a certain bit is still the same regardless if it's a volcano or fist. The fist just has to move waaaayyyyy faster

I think the overall point was missed here. He wasn’t calculating the satirical strength that Saitama is actually capable of, rather a baseline so we have an idea how high he can actually be at. 10^32J would just be the lowest point we can assume at this stage. Theoretically the number could be far, far higher.

Frank Heile, a physicist at Stanford, calculated that the force required to accelerate the Earth to the escape velocity of the Sun, around 42km per second from the Earth's distance, is around 4×10^32. This figure is very close to the figure you gave for Saitama's serious punch. This means that if Saitama could hit the Earth with this amount of energy without destroying it, he could knock the Earth from its orbit around the Sun.
And possibly destroy it with only a little more of his strength, as boros said that Saitama had strength to spare.

He wouldn't have to hit the Earth with the punch. In fact, all he would have to do is punch straight up into the air.
Assume anime logic so that he wouldn't drill himself directly into the ground. By Newton's 1st law, the force he puts into his punch is exerted back equally and oppositely onto him, which in turn would be imparted into the Earth. So if he aimed that punch directly into the air, then he would effectively be pushing the planet in the opposite direction.
But, its a closed system. So what would end up happening is that Sitama would just evaporate every thing on the Earth.

Since it was mentioned that Saitama removed all limiters during his training, that could mean that even though he's already fully serious, he can go beyond that and reach 120% or even 300% of his power. He's literally infinitely stronger but it's just that his feats are not that impressive which references Saitama's Limitless Power.
