- Obviously, the title of this video is completely hyperbolic. It is not that serious. Wear whatever you want.
But I believe it is fair to say that most guys today will avoid the fragrances in this video, because they might be considered old-fashioned. But truly, the fragrances of 30 years ago and longer were some of the most interesting and complex fragrances, even in the designer realm.
We are not only featuring older releases, but also more contemporary ones that have been created to resemble more classic models.

Growing up, my dad wore Aramis and Paco Rabanne PH and Azzaro PH and the OG Polo and Lomani PH... He's the reason why Fougere (my favorite style) and Chypre fragrances have always been a staple in my collection and will always be in my collection.

Heritage is underrated among the Guerlain classics for men but by far my favorite
Eau Sauvage Parfum and Habit Rouge are 2 of my favourite Spring/Summer scents in my collection. I would also add LIDG and Caron 3rd Man to this list. Both are classic more grown up scents.
You need to get into Azzaro Pour Homme... Try vintage versions, for me it's the best fougère/barbershop grown men fragrance.
Sounds like I'm not like most men Justin. These are perfumes which I just love to wear. Most of them I know and like, some I own in my small collection and only 2 I haven't heared off untill now. So 2 are out there for me to get my hands on a sample. All and all sir, for me this was again an awesome video. 💪👌

I don't like to remember, the past is gone, it's just here and now, give me new things, but on the other hand I really appreciate vintage fragrances, not for the memories but for what they tell about the time they were made. Love Eau Sauvage, Safari and Habit Rouge, Eau Sauvage IMO is a timeless scent, the others are a little more dated but I can wear them without issues, I really don't care what people think about my fragrance. Great list & video... The vintage stuff is often soooo great... That Givenchy Gentleman -- I've got one from 1988... It is one of the BEST fragrances i own... It's great- crazy strong with nuclear performance (heavy animalic which I like but many might run) and it was not terribly expensive... Also nice mention of the OG Eau Sauvage ... That is really a gorgeous scent and again the VINTAGE BOTTLES (they are still around and expensive though not INSANE) are worth it... If you compare a vintage bottle (pre-1990) to now, even a novice will know the difference easily... Great list as always!

@@stayfreshproductions I worked at Marshall Field's YEARS ago in the fragrance department and one of my colleagues gifted it to me kind of as a joke because he was at least 15-20 years older than me and I would NEVER have worn that at the time (I was 22 or 23)... I never gifted it to anyone and even moved it to Taiwan with me and just started wearing it maybe 4 years ago... It's honestly incredible... Aside from them just not "making them like they used to", I think the biggest difference is the heavy use of real oakmoss and what I GUESS might be actual civet notes? Do you know any details as to when a switch was made from real civet notes to something synthetic? (And I ask not knowing whether I would ACTUALLY be able to smell the difference) but I can definitely tell the difference when oakmoss was getting the ax...
Whenever I watch a review of men's fragrances and the "smells dated" comes up I'm immediately interested in that fragrance. Why? Because it probably means it smells really good. It's just a scent profile thing. New fragrances are sweeter and not to my personal taste. I own several of the fragrances in this vid and to my "dated" nose they are all fantastic.

As a person who dives deep into this rabbit hole I got tired of ambroxan, vanilla, tonka bean bombs which most of modern releases are. I started searching for "real man" fragrances and acquiring decants. Most of them have an old man vibe, but after a few wearings I started seeing the handsomeness from these fragrances. They are Davidoff Zino (based on your recommendation for Tom Ford Beau de Jour), Davidoff Cool Water, Guerlain Habit Rouge edt, Guy Laroche Drakkar Noir and Paco Rabbane Pour Homme. I really enjoy this stuff and feel myself as a man in my 20-s. My next targets are Guerlain Vetiver, Alfred Sung Sung Homme, YSL Kouros, Dior Fahrenheit and Hermes Terre D'Hermes edt.

Excellent selections Justin! Heritage doesn’t receive enough appreciation as it should. Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme has similar qualities to some of the fragrances on this list. Looking forward to getting a bottle of Beau du Jour.

I must admit I sold my bottle of heritage EDT as it just didn’t do it for me but I definitely appreciate it and will possibly re visit again as I’d like to get the newer Guerlain bottles to match up with the ideal line.

Beau du jour is my ride or die. I wear it often when in a suit and tie it just works. You don’t wear a bathing suit to a wedding and you don’t wear a suit to the shore. Beau du jour is an amazing formal scent.

eau sauavge edp 2017 and 2012 are sheer brilliance. habit rouge edt is also great. i should wear that more often. ive grown tired and uninterested in sweeter scents. and leaned more towards mature masculine and more elegant offerings over the last few years. and think it takes time for everyone to venture around to these types of smells. great video!

What a great list! I have (and love) both the Guerlains you mentioned, as well as Yatagan. Other frags that might go on such a list that I'd recommend (with their dates of origin): Dunhill for Men (1934), Guerlain's Jicky (1889!...now marketed to women but a totally unisex fougere), Knize Ten (1925), and Caron's Third Man (1985).

Nice topic, Justin! I will have to try Yatagan again. Bought the bottle years ago and it has sat in the back of my collection, collecting dust, but this nose may finally have matured enough to appreciate it. Grey Flannel also falls in this category.

@@stayfreshproductions Grey Flannel literally smells like grey flannel and it’s dirt cheap. Many have recognized it as creative and brilliant perfumery, perhaps ahead of its time. But I never really wanted to smell like wool flannel, so even though I was given a bottle when I was much younger, I never appreciated the accomplishment for what it was.
You could put a lot of Guerlains on this list. Vetiver, Heritage, Habit Rouge, Homme EDP.. Good list, I have a lot of these or fragrances that are adjacent to ones listed i.e. I have YSL's Jazz which often gets compared to Pasha EDT and Safari. I'd also put Polo Green up there, I know it's one of those classic "grandpa" fragrances, but I'm telling you, layer it with Iso E Super and it's amazing. It helps to round out the rough edges and makes it so much more wearable.
The old school smelling scent I wear is Polo extreme. It’s a suped up version of the original Polo cologne

HAH, my oldest bottle is a 1994/95 bottle of Safari (I’ve been waiting for someone to put it in a video). My wife bought it for me shortly after we were married and it was my only fragrance for 20 years or more.
There’s only a fraction left, so I never spray it now, but it’s a great “old school” manly scent!

When I was in high school Drakkar Noir and Polo Green were all the rage. Drakkar smelled so good to me but I couldn’t afford it. Was never a big fragrance fan but recently tried a few. Been enjoying Creed GIT, Nishane B612 and MFK Masculine Pluriel lately. Also had to buy a bottle of Roja Danger Parfum Cologne, reminds me of my dad for some reason(he wouldn’t ever spend that $$$ on a frag). Tom Ford BdJ or Dior eau sauvage coming next
Safari is my number 1 fragrance of all time. I have a Cosmair bottle. I also have a tiny bit left from the early 1990's

I love my Eau sauvage parfum 2017. Someone said it smellls like a designer beach hut man and I kind of agree! I have not smelled the original EDT. Do you really think the EDT from the 60s is less dated?

I like the concept but yes this will be difficult for most men nowadays to try. I do own Sung Homme and agree its a soapy fragrance like Irish Spring. With that i think im good already for having tried a challenging list as gentlemanly has that CLASSY BUT OLD vibe to it. However, i think im willing to try either Heritage coz its the later released Guerlain or Pasha coz i own the Parfum so im open to try the OG.
With such an intro and so much trolling (and rightly needed) the community, I fully expected Sauvage to be on the list. And by extension (and the law of trolling) Eau Sauvage will do instead.
I'm sure I've heard about Sung Homme before, same for Yatagan. But I don't see either anywhere around, sadly. Maybe I will get to sample them sometime. Pasha is still on my to-do list. Same goes for Héritage and Habit Rouge.
I went through a bottle of the splash version of Safari after buying it duty free back in 1999, although I seem to remember it being strong despite what people say. You're right about the others though, I may be over 40 but I'm in no rush to smell like an old person.
If you appreciate "old school" fragrances Afnan His Highness Green is a MUST BUY!! Classy...modern...MASCULINE. Plus you're not gonna smell like 97% of the guys out there = bonus.
For reference....I guess this is like Creed's Royal Oud with an added leather component. To my nose, very similar to Tom Ford Anthracite but not as earthy, a bit more green and more wearable.

Xerjoff Casamorati 1888 and Mancera Saharian Wind... both have great qualities... well blended... interesting note composition... but I'm continuing to struggle with wearing them because of their "old man" profile

Great list. Another classic which a lot of men today are scared to wear/try is the original Aramis: leather, moss, aldehydes, dry woods and some delicate florals. It’s bold but I think you’d like it, Justin!

LOL. Love Sung, I went through a whole btl after seeing it on one of your videos. It is over priced here. Pasha is great, but the base creaminess was a bit of a turn off for me. I did use it in the late 1990. Safari, is nice, I might wear it again. Eau Sauvage original was ok, but not for me, there was something in it that I didn't appreciate. Have to check the reformulated one. Not familiar with Heritage, must try it. Love Habit Rouge, would have used it if it wasn't that creamy. The carnations in it is beautiful. Beau De Jour is gorgeous but a bit tricky to wear because of the dated vibe. Not familiar with jet set but seems interesting. Gentleman 1974 is amazing, one of my favorites from the house, and yes it was much stronger. I have been wearing it since the mid 1990s and what you have now is toned down a bit. For one thing it was more animalic and sweeter, I still love it, just do NOT wear it in the heat. I don't remember Yatagan. I did like the original Caron pour homme.

For me the best manly MAN fragrance is Memo Iberian leather. This fragrance is so charismatic my sister hate it so much but I love it.
Insense is one of those gorgeous and all too often overlooked fragrances.

I'm nearing 40 and I think I would enjoy pasha Cartier now versus the 19yr old me I first tried it... since then my taste in fragrances has definitely changed.... still don't like leather notes tho🤷🏾
I can't even imagine an even stronger version of Zino O.O' but I love the fact that you know about Zino. I used to love the EDT. I had the aftershave and it was awful (maybe it went sour). The EDT was something to needed to dress up for but I was in my early 20's and didn't have any fashion sense. I call it a cougar cologne because a lot of the older women find it very sexy 😂 so I can't imagine a stronger Tom Ford version and I don't want or need a sugar momma 😂
Current formulations of Zino are quite light, so I’m comparing the TF to that! But it’s still plenty strong.
@@stayfreshproductions glad to hear! I used to hold Zino in my palm after a shower and contemplate my evening plans accordingly. I never was and still am not a beast mode frangrance wearer. That reminds me that I need to smell the modern Kouros too since it's reformulation. It's probably much nicer than when I first tried it in 2019. Back then I wore fragrances to appear attractive but I never dressed up but now I dress up. My income in Cambodia is a bit low and authentic perfume is expensive and only a few brands are distributed here. I'm hoping I'll have saved enough to buy my signature scent, Issey Miyake pour homme. A 125ml bottle at the mall here is as high as $118 with a discount. Yikes! I found Santino by Yves de Sistelle, a small cheap perfume house, and it's a nice amber fragrance with a pineapple in the opening. That was $35. Unfortunately for me, amber based fragrances make me nose blind. I love Issey because it's fresh and smells like I own a yacht.

I love the Alfred Sung! Eau Sauvage Parfum is killer! I have Guerlain Heritage and Habit Rouge,also. I am 65, so I try to stay away from “little boy” fragrances!😂😂 There is a difference between smelling “dated” and smelling classy! Beau De Jour is one of my wife’s faves. There’s not a one on this list that I wouldn’t wear!

I love the old Givenchy Gentleman edt and Eau Sauvage edt. My go-to scents for decades. The Guerlains are wonderful too. As is Pasha. I really must be stuck in a stereotype of what you call "old man". I'm not nearly as old as Joe Biden or Donald Trump, being only 67. But I find that many new releases don't excite me the way my old favourites do. Tom Ford seems seriously over-hyped to me. I haven't tried Beau du Jour, but will on your recommendation. And the Caron, if I ever come across it. It's not a brand one sees very often. I also like Carven, and their fragrances seem to be like hens' teeth: especially Vetiver Dry.

First and foremost I would suggest you wear a fragrance that you love. Assuming that you love all three of those equally, I would personally wear Boundless or Apex, it depends on how I’m feeling.
I'm not justin but I would suggest following his advice of wearing what you love/what will put you in a great mood and mindset.
But do consider that you said it is a colleague's wedding - which means you shouldnt wear something too head turning. It's their day to shine

Re Heritage. A little bit old guy? A little bit old guy? 😄 Tell them the truf! Its just a few years less dated than Habit Rouge. Early-mid 70s instead of mid 60s. Long, long before our time and precious few watching this. I can't understand the love it gets in the frag community. Its dimensional and seemingly well constructed but did not transcend its time and is hard to like. Even for fougere lovers. (Same for Guerlain's vetiver.)
Eau Sauvage EDP is an older bro to TF Beau De Jour. Will have to disagree with the 'modern' tag. The EDT is dated but as you said much closer to timeless. I direct guys seeking modern lavender to the absolute genius of Amouage Sunshine Man. Not a fougere but reminiscent of something like it with dominant lavender, immortel and boozey orange brandy. Its not a formal scent but playful, utterly artistic, creative and smart. I wish a frag company would try to riff off of it and make something more gentlemanly/elegant.
I love fougeres but could not get into most on this list TBH though I tried hard. Haven't smelled Pasha EDT in a long time but bought it for my little bro when we were real young. Its on my list from your recommendations of it.

Some of these fragrances are definitely too dated for me. One of my current loves in this list is BDJ by Tom Ford. That lavender is divine. My wife still says I smell like an old man, but that's cool.
Nice ones ! But imo, one can wear any perfume one likes..they discovered a new market in making perfumes for men, so more money to gain. Wear what you want and like, perfume has no gender or age. Thanks Justin
