He really gotta do it to em
@@sahymakhtar7445 you know I had to do it to em
Underwhelmed by the severe lack of Aouwtetchkkreareer mispronunciation. Segment at the end should've lasted for at least the duration of elseq 1-5.
By the way it's pronounced like this: "autechre"
Shite, it's pronounced like this: "autechre"
no no, you got it wrong, it's actually "autechre"
Guys guys.....please it's AUTECHRE. Don't get confused now.
The duo pronounce it "aw-TEK-er", but they say it can be pronounced any way one likes.

Fancy seeing you here Patricia :) love your work!
i just absolutely love your channel. thank you for making it
I love everyone's list is completly different
I completely understand why you love Incunabula so much. I'm surprised more people don't call that their favorite. I love Draft and Exai, but yeah, those are definitely mood albums. Incunabula has such a calming atmosphere and its so easy to get into. Sometimes thats what I need. Despite being old and of its time, I don't think its dated at all. The truth is, real great music never goes out of style. I think all hardcore Autechre fans secretly love that album, but the technical stuff is more relevant nowadays.
My list:
1: Amber
2: Lp5
3: Incunabula
4: Draft 7.30
5: Tri Repetae
6: Exai
7: Chiastic Slide
8: Quarstice
9: Confield
10: Untilted
11: Oversteps
Did not listen to Nts of Elseq yet
just subscribed and i really like ur channel so far. i'm mostly here for Autechre, but will check out videos of other artists as well. u are doing a really good job at explaining and presenting ur reviews that are generally more substantial than most other reviewers while still keeping it uncomplicated and easy to grasp. watching ur videos is really refreshing. thank u for doing this. i already told my friends about ur channel. Berlin says hi! :)
niicee video man! just watched all your content of ae, bjork, kraftwerk, afx, boc... I like your way to describe the things and aspects of each album. my favs: amber, quaristice, chiastic side, oversteps, and right now i'm trying to get on exai. less fav: draft 7.30... it's almost inaccesible at first, but made friends with V-PROC already. and that's a big step lol.
This series has been an interesting one to watch given how their sounds have changed and evolved over the past 30 years almost. I should honestly listen to some more of their post 1990's era work because I haven't listened to that much. As it remains, I still think Amber appeals the most to my tastes, with Incunabula not far behind. From the description you applied to Untilted, I'd probably really dig that one too given I am into the chaotic drum & bass moments off of something like Aphex Twin's "Drukqs". Though I admit, I've always found their catalog to be rather daunting given how off the wall their music can get and how much of it there is.
Also, thanks for showing my comment at around 33:33
These videos are gold to get to know artists, just have to say it again, thanks again!
Leave Draft alone ! I love Draft 7.30 : (
...great list though

Draft 7.30 - is one of their best.
my ranking would be
13. Incunabula
12. Tri Repetae
11. LP5
10. Quaristice
9. Oversteps
8. Draft 7.30
7. Untilted
6. Chiastic Slide

@collide it's my opinion?
I couldn’t imagine having those bottom 3 where they are but alright
@@brianmeeth1512 my opinions have Slightly changed since this but that pretty much stands im sorry
appreciate the funny reference in the thumbnail haha
What is the reference
This is a lot harder than I thought since AE are (pretty much) my favourite artist of all time! Here’s mine anyway:
13. Quaristice
12. Draft 7.30
11. Incunabula
10. Oversteps
9. Elseq
8. Exai
7. Amber
6. Chiastic Slide
5. NTS
4. Tri Repetae
3. Confield
2. Untilted
1. LP5
I genuinely love all of these albums though and don’t think they’ve ever even come close to bad. Also, I understand why Incunabula is your favourite as although it’s low on my list it’s definitely the one have the most nostalgia for:)
LP5 is my last favorite. Why u like it? Which tracks ?
Krzysztof Zakrocki Every single second of it! It’s genuinely one of my favourite albums of all time and I consider it perfect. But especially Rae (My favourite Autechre track), AcroyearII, Melve (the most beautiful thing they ever did in my opinion) and Vose In. Out of curiosity, which album is your favourite?:)
@@emmacassidy6771 I wouldn't say favourite cause I like most of their LPs but I find post-Confield run of albums extremely satisfying. I think I would bet on Oversteps or Quaristice as my most hidden guilty pleasures cause they tend to the gentle/melodic/ambient side of Ae spectrum. I don't know Exai though and post Exai well. I love all Ae records. And I can't wait for more, speaking Sign album in October... Their unoficial remixes 5CD compilation called Laxir is also my treasure. Out of curiosity is this your real name?
Krzysztof Zakrocki I get that, it is hard to pick favourites because all their albums are so amazing! I’d say LP5, Untilted, Confield and Tri Repetae are definitely my top 4 though but the order changes sometimes. I agree, I am still getting to know the post Exai stuff because there’s so much of it! And honestly I haven’t listened to Quaristice and Oversteps as much as the rest so they will probably grow on me more over time. And yeah I’m very excited about Sign, I’ve already pre ordered the vinyl!
Drane 2 is a masterpiece.. Also, fold4, wrap5 makes my soul dance. Gorgeous album
I love LP5 because it has this amazing unity of concept/science and music, like the best works of Karlheinz Stockhausen.
The best by far.
I enjoyed hearing you perspective. My favorite Autechre releases have changed over the years, but my overall enjoyment of their music has increased a LOT. As I've learned how to create and program electronic music over the last 10 years, I've been able to hear Autechres music through a different lens. I also listen to a lot more jazz music than I did when I first started listening to AU. Even though their music is pretty far removed from Miles Davis or John Coltrane, I find myself listening to Autechre with similar mindset compared to when I listen to jazz. I had to learn how to listen to an album like Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" , how to appreciate the ambience, the rhythmic patterns, and the way the instruments interact - going back and listening to Autechre after getting into jazz music felt like an epiphany. Untilted is the album I've listened to the most over the years, and I go back and forth bw that and Oversteps and Exai as my favorite. Still love the old stuff though. Tri Repetae is one of the best albums of the 90s IMO.
Very pleased to see that my interpretation of the pronunciation of "Autechre" made it into the end of the video
I'm gonna make like ten albums in the next couple years and then request a discography review for myself when I'm done
Exai was 2 hours, elseq was 4 hours, NTS was 8 hours. I'm pretty sure their next album will be 16 hours. Regardless, great series. I always love hearing someone else's perspective on my favorite band.

@Dylan Quigley But they've said they have over 750 hours of jams on file, so it wouldn't be impossible for them to do it.
Four Tet when?
Wow I feel happy that I made you sick of Biosphere with that discography request.
Also great ranking. My personal favourite is Incunabula but Tri Repetae and Exai are close behind (along with Untilted)

11) oversteps
10) chiastic slide
9) Elseq 1-5
8) untilted
7) Incunabula

4) LP5
3) Amber
2) Quaristice
1) Confield
Kinda random question, but what's your favorite Autechre album cover? Mine's either Amber or Draft, my least favorite's Tri (obviously)
idk, Quaristice maybe? I do like that shade of blue, really sticks out from everything else they released
How do you rank music.... if you must. And are no critic?
What do you listen to the most?
Untilted
Confield
Draft 7:30
Incunabula
Exai
Tri Repetae
ngl i am surprised that you haven't talked about both LFO and Two Lone Swordsmen
those are some of my fav electronic artists
I have missed YOU!!!!
You should review The Flashbulb, he's the first IDM artist that I've ever listened to. My favorite album from him is Red Extensions of Me.
Since you sorta already know what kinda music I enjoy, is there anything from Autechre (or any artist) that is similar to what I like? Because so far, nothing has clicked with me
from these guys, yeah, not really. closest they might come to your tastes is maybe the Cavity Job EP, or Untilted, can give those a shot if you want idk
as for other random unrelated artists, idk what you have or haven't heard but if you haven't already you could try The Crystal Method - Vegas, Fluke - Risotto, Basement Jaxx - Remedy (or any of their stuff), Zircon - Antigravity, Ken Ishii - Metal Blue America, μ-Ziq - Tango N Vectif, or The Polish Ambassador - First Words (latter two are pretty long but you could probably pick and choose favorites from)
I think this one would be good enough - more house/techno inspired czcams.com/video/-gPuH1yeZ08/video.html
I have liked Autechre for a long time but only heard a few tracks. I very recently decided to put some hours into listening to their albums. Oddly enough I was stunned by NTS, I listened over two sessions and loved it. I also love Exai, will be listening to elseq tonight.
you redeemed yourself by putting untilted at number 5
LOL This is hilarious! This guy is a true Autechre fan!
But where will Sign slot in?
I dont really think its fair to call it "worst" to best. My least favorite: confield/draft 7.30 is not objectively "worse" than their other stuff, i just dont find it interesting. My personal ranking would be: Quaristice>Oversteps>Untilted>Exai>Amber>Elseq>Incanebula>tri-repeate>NTS1-4>Lp5>Chiastic slide>Draft 7.30>Confield
yeah when I say "worst" I mean subjectively. you can't judge art objectively, it's all just opinion
The Wonky Angle yeah exactly!
left this video on in the background while playin stardew valley and when 33:21 came in nearly thought i was having a stroke
I wonder where SIGN is gonna rank. OH I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!
I would never get into this game of ranking their albums. One can only rank personal favorites, but for me they are all equally great. One thing is for sure, they have progressed throughout their career, never settling into one style or another. I thought their newest one (SIGN, in 2020) would be colossal in scope, but they've dialed it back to one standard-length CD. I preordered a copy and I can't wait to get it!
I skipped to #1 and realize I look at ae discography as a bedroom music producer, I hear their discography differently. Draft and EP7 are high on my "top Ae albums" list. Incunabula and Amber bring me some warm memories, helped me beat Morrowind during some endless nights yonks ago ! cheers EDIT: and Exai is their absolute peak to me for now
All right here I go
1. Chiastic Slide
2. Tri Repetae
3. Untilted
4.Amber
5. Elseq
6. Incunabula
7. Quaristice
8. Oversteps
9. Confields
10. Exai
11. LP5
12. NTS
13. Draft
I have and unpopular opinions
Swap your first and your last choices and you'll get laid at the Party!
finally someone who likes chiastic slide
Can you make a playlist of every song on your iPod
that might be a bit difficult as there's over 15,000 songs on my iPod, that list changes all the time, they're downloaded from a whole bunch of different places and can't all be concentrated to the one streaming service, and there's a bunch of stuff in that list which isn't even streamable to begin with (like personal demos & whatnot)
With the caveat that this is based on memory and nostalgia, and I haven't yet listened to Elseq or NTS Sessions:
1. Untilted
2. Confield
3. Incunabula
4. LP5
5. Exai
6. Chiastic Slide
7. Tri Repetae
8. Oversteps
9. Draft 7:30
10. Amber
11. Quaristice
I've really enjoyed your Autechre reviews. They come off like you've worked hard to give each album a fair shake while being very honest about your experience and not at all pretentious. I say this as a huge fan of everything Ae's done up until LP5 who wants to delve into the later stuff but am feeling intimidated. I connect emotionally with everything up to EP7 and Confield- that's where I kind of hit a wall. I think Confield may just not be my cup of tea and that's okay. Untilted sounds really sleak and cool, but lacks the emotional punch for me that LP5 and Chiastic Slide had. Still pretty great, especially the part with Ipacial Section followed by Pro Radii. It was encouraging that I could enjoy it as much as I did after banging my head against Confield / EP7 / Gantz Graf. Now I'm eyeing Quaristice and beyond with cautious anticipation.
While we're on the subject of rankings, I noticed you never did an Aphex Twin ranking.
Or if you did it's not in the playlist.
no I did not, because someone else did it before me czcams.com/video/Bu-vm_iqHoE/video.html and I didn't feel I would be able to add to that beyond what they did
ok let's give this a shot...
13: Incunabula
12: Oversteps
11: Quaristice
10: Tri Repetae
9: Draft 7.30
8: Amber
7: Untilted
6: NTS 1-4
5: LP5
4: Elseq 1-5
3: Chiastic Slide
2: Exai
1: Confield
Though, that all said, the new onesix live soundboards from last month might be better than all of this... :O
S - Elseq (best album that use samples, ever)
A - Exai (cold comfort) - Untilted (you want some banger? go listen to this this album, simple as that. still entertaining for hardcore fans cuz of how progressist the tracks are, there are like several tracks in one)
B - LP5 (the tempo is out of control! fun album to listen as a whole) - tri repetae (many tracks are fun to listen, but the album get quickly repetitive)
C - Incunabula (both very influenced and influential, quite remarkable for a first album) - Draft 7.30 (such comfy and insane, the melody still sounding bland but the concept is fun)
D - Chiastic Slide (the album that defines AE's eccentricity)
E - Quaristice (good tracks, messy album) - Amber (generic as a whole?)
F - Oversteps (generic and bland?) - NTS (quantity over quality? why not both? it lacks of creativity and it isn't even fun for listening to compensate but rather tedious, I know this may be dumb but I feel like they made this album to only show they have the balls to do whatever the length they want for their albums)
edit: I'm only sure about the bottom four
edit: gonna listen to confield and chiastic slide again for a more fair ranking
edit: incunabula E, NTS C
I think I heard in an interview that cichli suite is a play on words and pronounced 'sickly sweet'. Don't quote me on that though, think I read that over a decade ago 😂
It would be difficult to list them all, but I am very clear about my least favourite album, and that is Quaristice. I tend to like the later work best. In terms of favourite, it is difficult to chose between elseq1-5 (come on Warp - its about time that it was released on CD and/or vinyl) and Confield (such a revolutionary album). After those it is NTS1-4, Draft 7.30, Exai and Untilted for sure (I also love the live material that has been released). But really, with the exception of Quaristice, I listen to all their albums and often. So looking forward to listening to SIGN.
Nice video and opinion buddy!

It's fucking great! I don't get why people don't like it
so i need to finish exai and then i'm done with the albums i believe, i'm thinking about skipping elseq due to it being kind of "extremely" long and i'm not gonna do a my own top 13 until i finish NTS, basically what i'm saying is you should listen before you should say (sorry if this grammar makes you suffer)

Exai is my favourite Autechre album. I'll say it's their best album of this century. Why this century? Because I don't have an issue with LP5, Tri or Amber beating it - I respect those. But do NOT tell that NTS is better. NTS is too greedy for your attention given its duration; that and many long tracks lack any form of progression to justify their length.

I'm late to find this video, rating all Ae albums ? what a tough job, I would spend a lot of time yet to find which tracks i prefer on each LP.
I think I wouldn't go for Inculabula that I found to be too much close to drill n bass sounds at the time (late evolution of drum n bass and yet dying), I prefer when they went on their explorative/experimental/unrankable genre of their own which is electronic landscape I guess, but not hardly the most edgy ones.
They where Hans Zimmer before Hans Zimmer*, and the perfect soundtrack for Zaha Hadid Architecture.
*before he went on those big electronic scapes.

I had to mention that it is not fair to compare elseq and NTS sessions with the rest of the albums. They you have to listen part by part for several days, just like reading a book and they cant have that direct, holistic impact like an almum who you listen from front to back at once. It is like comparing several short stories and two novels and you had to rank them all together. I think elseq and NTS sessions are not albums but another format which yet to be named.
LP5 on the last spot ... :./
@@omgsolikevalleygirl Well, yes. Good album but if I have to pick one lp5 and Amber are the least extrodinary AE albums for me
:D For me - any album that has a track like Fold4, Wrap5 on it has to be my favorite album of all time :D
@@omgsolikevalleygirl I know, but we can find such tracks for any AU album. But eidetic casein, Bane or Pen Express... or Uviol are something out of thid world.
Yeah, I can listen to NTS frequently and for long periods of time.
Thanks Tommy. Yeah I was surprised with the no1 though. Or maybe not !... hmmm...... ;)
Amber my first album also
I miss Mr. Brap Allgood’s comments.

All of their early albums are good. It is not for nothing that they have They became the flagships of IDM. The recordings from 1993 to 2005 are absolute masterpieces, as for me. Then something incomprehensible began.
That Arial on the thumbnail is killing me. It’s should be Helvetica Neue 95 Black. Arial is to Helvetica what PJ And Duncan is to Autechre.
I love how someone likes to pronounce then as ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
