- It's been a LONG time since I counted down my 10 favorite tracks from a given artist, and we got an Autechre series to finish, so... time to bring this format back!

just for fun since I did this for Aphex Twin, here's a few more tracks that were on the honorable mentions list at one point but were cut for the sake of brevity (but are otherwise roughly as good as the ones I actually did use or mention): Under BOAC, Leterel, Surripere, Slip, Calbruc, nodezsh / runrepik, spaces how V, c16 deep tread, clustro casual, also both LCC and Treale were almost the buffer music

agree, it's a great track. and people never mention Clipper and Lost and Montreal, though these are my 3 favourite tracks. they've made so many tracks in the last 30 years that it's hard to remember and mention all of them. For instance, today I gave another careful listen to Quaristice, with my headphones on, not through monitors as I always do, and it got me so impressed, I have no words. I just always discover new ''favourite'' tracks from them. But Clipper and Montreal will always be my favourite, yeah

Dang; I attempted to follow your discography-review by listening to the albums before I saw your review of it, but at some point, I had gotten an Autechre-overflow and had to take a break. Should get back to it.
I couldn't at this moment name several top tracks - but one that continues to spring to mind and resonate with me emotionally is "Teartear" from Amber. That is one I sometimes put on out of context and bask in the desolate, banging atmosphere it provides. Really, really good track.
Nine is by far my favourite song from Autechre.
Vletrmx21 is hands-down my favour Autechre track. The most emotive song I've heard from them. The whole 'Garbage' EP is my favourite - it has the easier listening of their early work, but with some of the greater complexity of their later work.
It's my favorite track as well. The Garbage and Anvil Vapre eps and the album Tri-repetae were packaged as a two cd set called Tri-repetae++. I've listened to those cds so much I wore them out, especially cd 2 . Those two eps contain some of my favorite electronic tracks of all time . The track that immediately grabbed me was the last track Vletrmx21. It's just a simple melody comprised of maybe 5 notes but it's treated with such gorgeous reverb and repeated over and over again but with changing dynamics. The effect it creates for me is one of timelessness , it's like a message from the innermost depths of consciousness. Just mind blowing .

I love how you got mixed up and named dropped Albuquerque, NM. Cheers! I used to live there during my college days a good decade ago. It was there I was able to collecting their first three albums.
Garbagemx is one of my personal favorites, the way it sloooowly unfolds like some great machine evolving and taking over the surface of a planet... also one of their more relaxing tracks. but every song you mentioned is equally beautiful in its own rgiht.

1. Nuane, I ignore the long outro and the first 5 minutes is exciting as Autechre gets, even after monolithic projects like Elseq that I adore deeply and would give a 10/10. The second half is less dense, but still catchy as hell.

Great coverage, honest and objective, but not to the point of forfeiting you genuine feelings on the projects. I'm far more attatched to their later ambitious work and could understand why you are more partial to their conventional and nostalgic works. I'm glad we could agree on Quaristice and Untilted, adore those projects and not many people praise them.
Personally I think yulquen is one of the best electronic songs ever made

to me LP5 is their best album because it celebrates the roughness around the edges :D But they definitely are an epoch-making act all around. IDM would probably never have become a "thing" without them around as the lighthouse of unreachable digital genius
Lowride is a truly great track. A bit disappointed you didn't mention Piezo but oh well...
I've been listening to Piezo non-stop recently.

great #1 pick. it totally sounds like an alien mutation and deconstruction of G-Funk and '80s electro. "incunabula" was the definition of a game-changing album in the electronica realm, I was just thinking about this fact whilst having a shower a couple of hours ago
14:57 I have to agree, Confield does require a few listens to fully appreciate what is going on in the musical structure, it was certainly the same for me but coming from the earlier spectrum (being inducted through Tri Repetae), but I agree with what you're saying here.
Also, your selection is rather diverse and solid so credit for that :) no complaints.

I think Lowride, and pretty much every track on Incunabula is incredible! It's one of my favorite albums of all time!
My no. 1 is bladelores. I spent a month or two to narrow it down to that. Clipper, gonk steady one, and bike put up valiant fights for the spot.
I love your approach to the top 10, hearing people's personal opinions and them being acknowledged as personal makes it more of an inspiration to listen to the songs instead of it being something to agree or disagree about. If I would add some mentions it would be:
- Rae. This track completely puts me into introspection and can help me feel sad when I want to feel sad.
- Shimripl Casual. The sounds on this song are completely alien. It's menacing, it's so atmospheric and in a sense indescribable.
- r ess. The way this track builds up is madness.
- M4 Lema. dcaksjxskrsskkxkxsksrkrsssWAAAAHWAAAHasdasxixhjk
- AE Live 2024 in The Hague. This set was the wildest thing I've ever heard in my life. It cannot be reproduced the way I and all the other attendees experienced. The sound was perfect, the beats were unlike anything I've heard from them, and I feel like this was such a push in the boundaries of what sound and music can be.
I sincerely hope to see them live again once.

Before that, it was IV VV IV VV VIII.

for me personally penexpers is one of my all time favorite autechre tracks and bladelores follows after. at the same time i havent really listened to all of ae enough and clearly you have, so when i do i think i might gain the same opinions as u :3
well from what I can tell very few people fully agree with my opinions on ae and my favorites have a lot of personal biases in themselves, so I assume hearing their full catalog won't actually result in your having the same opinions as me lmao
though it definitely will not hurt to go through their whole catalog to check for yourself. Pen Expers and Bladelores are two very common top picks among people who have heard their whole catalog but everyone pulls out completely different favorites with little to no overall consensus so you never know

@@articunojay Quaristice imo is their greatest album and the peak of their sonic experimentation. No other album before and after that is at its level in terms of futurism and abstraction (the only one that comes close to that is elseq 1-5 imo).
Fol4 is the greatest example of that. There's no other track in their whole discography that sounds like that one (not even Fol3) and stands as the most abstract piece of music I've ever heard and my favourite Autechre track without a doubt.
