to me IDM, especially when its the ambient side, is an appeal because it's main aim is to sound as interesting and organic and unique as possible, which is not the goal of much mainstream genres. I got drawn to groups like Boards of Canada in mid 2000s when my dad would give me his MP3 player and he'd put it on for me, I would just be totally fascinated by it, it sounded like it was music that wasn't made by a person, but more by nature itself. It evoked so much deep emotion and feeling
Idk, saw aphex twin live recently and it was the best shit I’ve ever witnessed. Electric. Sounded amazing in the big sweaty dance space (huge hangar). So I think the genre is not limited to home listening, at least in its current stat
I think you could say IDM borrowed a similar philosophy to Jazz in the sense that the early artists chose not to take the path of being confined to a set of genre rules and principles, especially when it came to melodic/harmonic tropes and simple 4/4 rhythms
Exorbitant treatise, compatriot! I relish deliberating over the soundscapes of Intelligent Dance Music whilst perusing my thesaurus on account of my superlative cerebrum.

I'll add some artists that deserve attention too (some of these artists may or may not produce idm, I can't quite tell the difference between idm and their style of drum'n'bass) The Flashbulb Onoken Feryquitous AcuticNotes Frums
If I had a nickle for errytime someone who isn't me mentioned flashcore, I'd probs have a quarter. That's better than I expected, and am now awaiting a video.
What most people don't know is that this "intelligent" thing does not come from the fact that the artists or the fans considered themselves to be overly intelligent. The name comes from a series of compilations from the Warp label, named Artificial Intelligence. In the early days we also did not call this IDM because it is NOT dance music, we called it "Intelligent Techno" or "Experimental". Also it is completely wrong that House and Techno were created at the same time in Germany and the USA. House was created basically in Chicago in the mid eighties and techno was created in Detroit in the late eighties. It became prominent in Berlin after the fall of the Berlin wall in 89/90, when people started organising techno parties in all these abandoned buildings in Berlin. There was indeed a Techno Club before this at the Frankfurt airport but even though they named themselve Techno Club they played only EBM and Industrial like Front 242, Leather Strip, Skinny Puppy etc.
I can’t believe that watching videos about minor genre distinctions is something that I do regularly now 😅 Edit: I totally thought this video was going to be about “industrial death metal” or something. Didn’t know that you covered non-heavy genres!
I'm surprised that you didn't mention the Asian IDM scenes (namely the Japanese and Korean ones), but then again, their particular style of IDM is different enough from the western side of it that it probably warrants its own video. After all, they're the ones that came up with stuff like gothic hardcore and artcore, which are more prevalent styles of IDM in the Asian scene.
"Second Summer of Love..." Oh neat, cool Eureka Seven reference "... explosion of Acid House" *remembers a lot of the E7 OST is comprised of acid and house* *Mind blown*
@@MnemonicHeadTrip i like sinking into them every once in a while, but i dont get how ppl can't listen to such long works without following asleep. lol
IDM doesn't tell you what to do. That's why it never caught on to the very popular, which is good. Most people want to just be told what to think and feel even through music. IDM only makes suggestions, not assertions.
lol @ Paul OakenFIELD. I actually had to double check and make sure I wasn't mistaken, all these years. _(it is indeed _*_-fold_*_ heh)_ But yea, ICM seems more fitting: Intelligent Chill Music
back in the 90's, any marked "Intelligent", I just thought of as pretentious and boring, imagining folks at some tea party speculating on the future sounds that they were conjuring from jazz samples and threadbare breaks. I was more than happy with my caveman gabber and jungle.
I’m going to have a party when you release an ignorant guide to industrial
Eagerly awaiting this day and party
Hell yeah
I'm gonna have a party when Coolea releases an ignorant guide to speedcore
Guys listen to day of pigs by spk that is real industrial and holy fuck I love it. I listen to all genres and dive deep into music

Not much really compares to him live, it's pretty special
Aphex Twin is not exactly 100% "IDM" he is playing and producing a lot of Drum & Bass influenced stuff. IDM is a stupid term anyway.
IDM is my favorite genre so thank you for this. And yes, I’m very intelligent.
I can tell, I am also very intelligent.
Hello, fellow intelligent person.
I, myself, am quite an intelligent individual.
We, intelligent people, must stick together.
i too enjoy internet download manager
an intelligent person would never brag about it.
Oh yeah? What's 1+1?

Ignorant guide to Dubstep would be fun

An example of an IDM song in a video game is ethereal workshop, the MSM wiki says the genre is IDM.
I hate using the term IDM. It sounds so pretentious and cringe 😂
Braindance is also kinda silly (well, it was making fun of IDM). It should be something like ELM (electronic listening music), just simple like that.
dont have much to say about this video, but I'm leaving a comment so the algorithm pushes your channel to a larger audience.
I, _too,_ leave sacrificial comments to the almighty algorithm! 😊
Excellent video, best video on the history of idm as a genre I've seen
Music has the Right to Children is my favorite rave album of all time.

This is my favorite channel. You are a music god among peasants.
Techno originated in America too, not Germany. Love the content though
I do not know why but after watching this video I feel a strong inclination to subscribe to Coolea

Some people say that the other works from C418 that are NOT the Minecraft OST is considered IDM.
C418 was inspired by IDM for sure
I might steal the video without your commentary. The clip compilation is ducking hilarious and is an interesting sample of the internet

Why the f' would somebody need a "guide" for a particular music taste? I swear youtube gets unbearably autistic sometimes.
back in the 90's, any marked "Intelligent", I just thought of as pretentious and boring, imagining folks at some tea party speculating on the future sounds that they were conjuring from jazz samples and threadbare breaks. I was more than happy with my caveman gabber and jungle.
