I just had VSG September 8th and a hernia removed. It's been rough but I know it'll get better. The highs and lows may be pre menopausal or depression. Sometimes it manifests in other ways. If you're not taking care of your mental health, you can't take care of anything else. Sometimes, we need someone to talk to outside of our inner circle. Just take it one day at a time and give to HIM!! It'll be greater later. Stay positive..much love from Texas.đŸ’—đŸ™đŸŸ

So.... I had an RNY 20 years ago this last November. The first few years were easy. Since I was young (25), the weight came off super fast. I went from 350 to 125 in about 18 months. Shopping was fun, I could go in all the stores... but into year 4 and year 5, I would say I got to the point where maybe I took for granted that I was at a very low weight. And that was about the time I also, subconsciously, figured out how to get around my tiny pouch. First, it was grazing. Taking bites of things that were probably much higher in calories than I should have, and not paying attention. And my weight would climb up. I had always told myself I couldn't let it get out of control, so if I went higher than 175, then I'd diet, lose it... and start the whole cycle again. And at the 10 year mark from my surgery, incidentally the same time as the 2009 recession, my husband and I both lost our jobs and lost the house we worked so hard to get and invested so much in. Depression set in and I found all I did was graze. I grazed junk food, ice cream, candy... and as of earlier this year I was back up to 275 lbs. I went to a bariatric surgeon, assuming I needed a revision because my pouch MUST have expanded - but I saw him play the video of the upper GI test and the pouch was maybe a teenie tiny bit larger, but not significantly. I had managed to stretch the esophagus above the pouch, which can't be fixed. When he saw the tears in my eyes, he told me he's seen dozens of people like me. It's not the surgery that fails. It's our habits. We stop watching our protein intake, we eat easily digested carbs. I've never been a fan of sodas or juices, but it's a downfall for alot of people. But the good news is, he woke me up to the reality that I CAN fix me. I CAN eat 3 small meals a day and I CAN control the snacking, or "grazing" as I call it. I worked with a nutritionist and I've done as suggested and now that I'm older, weight comes off slower, but I've dropped about 50 pounds since then. When I feel like snacking, I stop and ask myself if I'm really hungry or just bored. Obviously, I have a way to go, but for any of you out there thinking this surgery is like a magic pill, it's not. You have to decide on the highest weight point where you either set yourself straight or see a nutritionist. Most of us who have had this surgery also suffer from depression. Address that. Pay attention to it. Seek help from a therapist or psychiatrist, because the "high" you get from losing the weight doesn't cure depression. Best to you all in the process and don't lose sight of reaching your goals!

Do you know that depression and anxiety can cause physical health issues. Things like fatigue, feeling stressed, and just worn down. It’s really hard to stay in one place all the time after you’ve spent the last three years moving and never know when things are going to change again. My therapist even told me that with the pandemic and the lock downs, an enormous amount of people are suffering with depression and anxiety đŸ˜„
I have found that reading my Bible and spending time with Jesus alone, away from everyone, telling him how you are feeling and meditating on that, can help so much. Just a suggestion.đŸ™đŸ»đŸ˜‡đŸ˜‡đŸ˜‡đŸ˜‡đŸ˜‡đŸ˜‡đŸ˜‡đŸ˜ŠđŸŠ‹FLY

I asked her NOT to have surgery, and just decide to make a permanent change in her diet, but she told me she does not have the willpower to do so without this surgery.
So, I need to understand the process, post surgery, what your recovery was like, and if you're at peace with your decision.

New to your channel. I had my sleeve done Thanksgiving day in 2017. I was 290 dos and got as low as 186. Something in my head triggered when I saw that number/pics/attention I received and I immediately started gaining weight...I've been stuck at 230-240 for a year now. I really need to refocus and get down to goal. I probably should mention that my highest weight was way over 300 (I quit weighing once I hit 300). So yes, I have lost a lot of weight but not much since surgery. I feel like I've wasted my time and put myself and my family through hell for no reason.
A friend of mine had her surgery 6 months after mine and she lost a huge amount of weight and continues to maintain it. I know I shouldn't compare but it's so hard. I love the message you send. I hope I learn from your experiences and get back on track. Thanks.

All I see in the fridge is health food and nuts and protein in the cabinets. It has been working for me and my goal is to replace my habit of eating to something else. I know this is mental and I may never get it off my head, but it is possible to do so and I am fighting it because I don’t want to spend my life paying bills and losing weight. I am still at my stall from my regain of 20 lbs since February. I trying lots of different things to get it off and realized I am back tracking to my old lifestyle of yoyo dieting. Got to get out of that mindset. My surgeon said to go back to three protein drinks a day for a week and I lost a whole five lbs doing that and as soon as I ate again I gained back three. So my lowest was 183 and now back to 203, I still want to lose 50 lbs by February. I am going to try Dr Vs idea of a green smoothie, salad with protein and small dinner my downfall is snacking. Erin, thank you so, SO much for sharing your life with us. You are so encouraging & insightful & you are helping me make a difference in my life to heal my mind & body. I wish you blessings for a peaceful & restorative season. I think many of us are strong during challenging times, particularly when are families need us, & then after the crisis/crises are over, we feel mentally & physically exhausted, depleted and/or apathetic. As you encourage us, give yourself grace, be loving & patient with yourself & continue striving to do those things that slowly & steadily support & boost your energy. I’m so happy to have run into you today! I had RNY bypass 20 years ago this week! I have only just now discovered that this is my life for the rest of my life. I follow the WW blue plan. I lost 120 lbs in 7 months. Then gained 40 and STAYED THERE FOR 17 years. I just couldn’t get anything to work! It’s hard girl. I’m back down to 200 and 199 was my lowest after surgery. I’m living life. Not eating sugar. And tracking what I eat. One bite of sugar will throw me into a binge and I try to avoid that at all costs! I just retired and have just discovered Instagram and CZcams so I haven’t posted much but you can see my pics on IG @livingonpointsandprayers. I have found that people on WW don’t want to hear about weight loss surgery. They think it’s the easy way out. Believe me, and you know it’s not easy!!! Blessings to you! Simone Semien good luck ! Just had mine on Monday September 21 it’s been 5 days and this is the first time I’ve been on my phone majority of the day , I couldn’t really do much but sit and close my eyes somewhere or watch tv and talk to my family from the couch or bed . I did a 2 weeks diet because my doctor wanted me to try and get my liver as small as possible for an “easier surgery”. It was a no or low salt and sugar diet and high protein . I ate what ever wraps I wanted with sour cream and drank as much fluids as I can . I can’t stand the taste of protein shakes so I didn’t do it even though my doctor REALLY wanted me to . When I went in to do the surgery I had lost 10 pounds just from doing the “diet” and now 5 days after I’m 18 pounds down . What I eat after my surgery has been water, juices, broths, and a bite of jello. I’m trying to walk a lot more (*like around the house , standing up to do the dishes, walking down the hall to lock the front door*) any walking I can do I try . The only painful thing for me was the first 2 days after surgery was the gas they pumped into me for surgery. The stitches don’t really hurt. The gas is a pain in your stomach one sometimes top of your chest like if you were to have a burp just sitting there that won’t come out . But each day that passes the gas goes away . 5 days out and I don’t suffer from any gass pain only a baby pain on one of my stitches but that’s it !! It’s definitely been worth it!! I cried after surgery saying I wish I didn’t do it but now days later definitely don’t regret it

Antunez Omar DONT worry about following the pre op diet to a T weather your liver is big or not they will do the surgery, if it’s just too big ( which is not likely cause that would mean you have a underlying condition) they would just need to stitch it up out the way to see the entire stomach . I live in Florida on government insurance so I went with someone that was only 30 minutes away from me and the hospital he does it at is right across the street from the doctors office I see him at . Probably not going to see this because the video is so old but because you mentioned you're an alcoholic I have a bit of advice. I'm researching videos for my cousin who is having the surgery. I was really against it but have come around and the videos have helped. I've been the cousin everyone told to eat because I have no boobs or butt. Being thin I'm not exactly healthy and I have a whole bag of body issues.
I'm an addict in recovery for close to 3 years. Drugs and alcohol. Cocaine specifically. I've never had a food addiction but I do have an addictive personality. Being in recovery for drugs/alcohol I begin shopping for things i dont need. I have closets filled with clothes still eith tags on. Then I switched right on into gambling. My main 'addiction' is running. I run 5 miles a day, everyday. Rain, snow I'm out there and I have a specific diet I don't deviate from. I also drink 3-5 liters of water a day.
My point in all this is, I had to start going to AA meetings and seeing a therapist again to stop the shopping and gambling. You may find it helpful with AA as it really does work. I'll stay on my sober journey for the rest of my life, this I know but I cant control the addiction part of my brain. People with food and alcohol addiction, it's very common to abuse alcohol and eventually food.
Lots of studies on how bariatric patients turn to alcohol to cope.

I live in a rural area with no restaurants and have a wonderful spouse that cooks so it's easy to stay on the wagon which is mandatory when doing low carb. We have two family members that had bariatric surgery for weight loss. Neither one has done well long term. My nephew's wife had to have her gall bladder removed and she has developed beginning kidney disease. She also developed a hernia near her GI tract and had to have that repaired. Her labs are not good either. The Doctor told her she will have to supplement; she is not getting enough vitamins and minerals. In the past, her B-12, Protein, Iron, Vitamin D, Calcium, magnesium and potassium were low. She had the surgery 17 years ago and is still dealing with after effect issues from this surgery. She has to now get labs done every 6 month to make sure her critical values are OK. She said if she had to do it again; she would not have the surgery done.
The other family member gained all the weight back and then some.

@@MyLevel10Life Thank you. I don't want you to think I don't support what you did to lose weight. Losing weight definitely correlates to a longer life. As I see you are doing, I think anyone that does this surgery; it is critical to stay on top of your blood work values. And, then working to bring those values back into line mostly likely by supplementing with the right food and using supplements. You also point out something that is probably the most important and too many bariatric Doctors and clinics do not focus on this issue enough. That is the mental aspect of becoming obese, dealing with denial, dealing with the changes in your appearance as you lose weight. A morbidly obese person needs major mental health counseling and so does the family. It is also a family disease. The obese person often has several enablers surrounding them. The family needs counseling as well.
I was through addiction counseling with a spouse. I was also part of the problem; I had to change and deal with my own issues. The same with food addiction. It is wonderful that you are sharing your story. You are helping so many others by sharing the ups and downs of your journey.
