My unit was part of the QRF (Quick Reaction Force) for Operation Red Wings. We had some guys on the D.A.R.T (Downed Aircraft Recovery Team). It was a huge operation trying to find Marcus and the rest of the team. Marcus said what he said because he truly thought they were all dead because he truly thought they were. Blaming Marcus' words for the slow down in the recovery operations is a flat out lie. We were told to take our time to clear the area because there were unknown number of hostiles in the area. And the Hollywood depiction of Marcus being saved by American forces is not how it went down at all.
@@stuartewoldt1513 always. I hate to say it but I feel this guy is jealous that Marcus got all the fame, along with Chris Kyle etc. From the way he talks about them seems to really demonize them. And that I have issue with
Marcus said what he said because he actually believes that everyone else was dead. It’s not right to say this because you’re putting Marcus down and you’re giving Axelson’s wife and family the heartbreak of believing he may have been alive and possibly could have been saved. This whole incident was a tragedy and God bless those men and their families.
Agreed. It’s always easy to Monday morning quarterback the situation. Just cause axe was nasty and might have made it a few more days doesn’t mean he didn’t believe he was dead.
I agree. No reason to trash people and make things worse. They gain nothing by trying to steal the pride and valor of a man that did more than most of us ever have. Did he make mistakes…yeah probably. Did he say the wrong things…most likely. We all do. Leave him alone.
I understand the idea of having an axe to grind because Marcus went on and made millions off of a lie and never tried to correct the record. It’s an honor thing
Does anyone ever talk about the shitty planning cycle and the dog 💩command and control of these mission failures?? We can point to dozens of these operations that devolved into tragedy during the GWOT…also Marcus Latrell clearly and truly believed that all of his teammates were dead, to say that it was his fault that Axleson died because if what Marcus said is pretty callous….however after watching the whole podcast, Marcus definitely has some explaining to do, Pred feed of him running away is pretty damning if its true.
These men are professionals...why would he say thst when he clearly didn't know. No one gave up on Marcus because they didn't find his body. And they saw him running from the overhead. Not my ft just sad.
Marcus said himself that he didn't fight and that he was a coward. He was found with all his ammo, nothing broken. Marcus was written a story to sell so the Navy could cover up all the horseshit.
Marcus didn’t know for sure if he was dead or not. He wasn’t there. He just made a guess which caused Axe to be killed. If he had done his job and stayed and fought, he would know that axe was not dead yet.
Fucking typical pu55y a55 command. I swear they dodge responsibility harder than an E4 during unit change of command. Your going to put that on a dude shot to F and back?!? Why don’t we turn it around, with 3 fricken military asset groups you cannot SAFELY find your troops… then why are they that far in with non-existent QRF where YOU pulled air assets?!? BS. Command and Intel own 100% of that one.
In the book Service it is described that Matthew had been buried by the locals which is why they could not find him. The locals had to show them where he was buried.
@@jimallen-nx8hz Yeah multiple accounts have said that he was berried in a shallow grave. Tony Brooks who pulled out official AAR's said that also. It is documented and in the official released reports. I think this guy Eric was talking out his butt whenever it came to Axelson, the fact that he didn't even know his name was a dead give away. I think this is just another retired SEAL trying to make a name for himself by cutting former teammates down. One thing that was a dead give away was that he only brought up well known SEALs like Luttrell, O'Neil, Kyle, and Jocko. This guy was and is using his time in the teams to try to give himself some credibility. No predator feed has been released, if there was a predator why didn't they call in some kind of QRF? If it was there why hasn't it been released after all the Freedom of information acts that have been requested by various people? I will end my tangent about Eric here but if there was a Predator above watching the whole thing why did it take until July 10 to find Matthews body and why would it not track the 3 miles from the rpg explosion that separated him from Marcus? I have my own opinion about what happened with Marcus but that is a whole other topic.
And marcus gave Travis Osborne (Green Beret who was the first to treat Marcus) the GPS coordinates of where Murph, and Dietz had fallen... This guy is a coward, what b.s., He should be Court Marshaled and sued
Let's be clear. Axel stayed where he was as a repellent. Marcus relayed what he knew. Marcus had no reason to believe Ax was alive. That unit was seperated in a way that comms were ineffective, heads could not be counted, and death toll could not ever be certain. Do not let this taint your opinion of Marcus. Ax would have gladly died on that hill, knowing Marcus was alive. That is the bond. That is the oath.

The villager who rescued Marcus also said he had all the ammo he had brought on the mission still with him and no one found any dead taliban fighters during the search and rescue for the seals, a marine colonel who was in on the search and rescue mission also said there were “no reports of any enemy casualties”. Multiple other sources, from marines who were in on planning the mission to rangers said it was maybe 10 enemy fighters not the 80-100 to 200 enemy fighters Marcus claimed. Also the target was a low level leader of a tiny taliban militia that had maybe 10 fighters in it. Those enemy fighters had taken video during the attack and from those only 7 enemy fighters could be seen. Marcus also completely and disgustingly fucked over the villager who saved him and left him for dead. The taliban tried repeatedly to kill him and ambushed him multiple times one of which killed his nephew he was with. Marcus used him to promote his book and movie and promised to help get him a green card and to the states and money from the sale of the book and movie neither of which happened even knowing him and his family were being hunted by the taliban for saving Marcus. The villager spent a decade moving around Afghanistan trying to hide from the Taliban and keep his family safe, lost his home, property and business because of this and Marcus just turned his back and didn’t give a shit. He finally got to the US with help from complete strangers who felt the country owed him on Marcus’ behalf because clearly Marcus didn’t give a shit about the guy who saved his ass. So…you obviously know what you are talking about. But yea…I deployed as an 0311. We were dropped off way out there and stayed out there the entire time. They just didn’t know how to handle it so we went and brought em back to our fob, then they left. Just saying 😐

After listening and reading accounts of that day it appears that they were hit with with either an RPG or PKM, Dietz was instantly out of the fight, Luttrell went one way, and Axe went another and Murphy was making his final stand while also trying to get comms. The gunfire heard in the video was Murphy and Axe, Luttrell was either unconscious or high tailing it out of the kill zone.. Everything else is spin.

Am I only one who thinks this is a shitty statement? No way axle lived for 9 days out there that fuct up. I’m sure some real ones will state some facts in the comments
Well this is yet another red flag about Luttrells character. So does that basically mean Axe lived for 7-8 days with not only the wounds he had,but also without any food or water as I imagine he had probably lost that during the actual ambush day plus didn't it get pretty chilly at night in the mountains where they were at?? Of course a Navy SEAL would probably be able to cope with the cold most likely, but not sure cause the wounds he had could have made coping more difficult physically?? The body recovery maps seem to indicate that Axe had flanked right, instead of left like depicted in the movie, and it appeared to me that he made it quite a bit away from the location where the ambush began and where Murphy & Deitz were found. This shows just how damn tough & how much pain endurance some Navy SEAL's can handle.Theres so many different conflicting pieces of info out there about this horrible day.I read that locals had found Axe against the tree, then buried him in a shallow grave, but I can't remember what their reasoning was,so apparently this was yet another false statement. Is there any factual info out there listing Axe's wounds and the exact specific cause of his death,if it's other than massive blood loss or a frontal forehead shot like depicted in the movie?? His death scene in Lone Survivor was one of the most realistic scenes I've ever witnessed with the labored breathing/eye filling with blood. He literally fought to the very, very end which pisses me off even more considering what Luttrell did on both fronts, iow running like a coward and telling people Axe was already dead when there might have been a chance for him. That was two more opportunities he had to help his brother in arms, but he chose to save his own ass.
The coward couldnt say he was still alive otherwise thered be a witness and hed be court martial'd for dereliction of duty, conduct unbecoming, and cowardice.
I did a lot of research again into red wings again a few months ago (I initially did with the movie release as well) as far as I can tell the truth is the locals buried him. Theres no accurate telling of when that happened though and if he would have survived on the mountain for a week which I don’t really believe.
Coward is a word thrown around by those that have never been faced with imminent death. We are all cowards just some of us can control the fear and still function, some have a harder time of it. If you haven’t been shot at and knew you were going to die then just be quiet you know nothing.

Unfortunately the Seal Community had a real problem with this over the years. No better example that the fact of the Navy Seal Upper echelon hiding the truth of Air Force Master Sgt. John Chapmans heroic exploits and trying to take credit for it on IR feed. What some people need to understand is that the average Infantryman in combat has seen far more action than that of the new Operator in any Spec Operations, yes they go through extensive training but someone like Marcus did not have extensive experience in a wartime environment, it comes with time even in that community. Just because someone might have a glorified title doesn't inherently mean they are of solid character.

Fucking wild. Marcus is such a coward
how about you go tell him that
@@oldsaltydawg8688you know in the book, he admits to being a coward.
