  • This week’s Urban Valor episode features Navy SEAL veteran, Mike O’Dowd. Mike was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He was inspired to be a Navy SEAL after watching a documentary on the Discovery channel about them. When the 9/11 attack occurred, Mike felt an even greater calling to go fight for America and enlisted into the Navy to become a Navy SEAL.
In this episode, he talks about his combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan assigned to SEAL Team 7, doing covert operations to capture targets while they slept, and working with locals who were police allies by day and enemy by night. Mike leaves us with the hardship of lost brothers and the impact transitioning back into the civilian world had on his mental health.

And if the people are just regular civilians they won’t kill them unlike the SS these dudes weren’t instructed to murder innocent people only people affiliated with the enemy and I’d be willing to bet if you were instructed to raid a house that may have enemies in it you wouldn’t give them a welcoming wake up call either it would be “ wake up follow orders with no resistance and or attempt to engage in combat or die” because all it takes is for one of them to have a grenade, suicide vest or gun and now you and your team could very well face severe casualties especially when you’re told you are fighting a terrorist group that wishes death you you and your homeland. These men joined the service and became navy seals to do missions to serve our country that you could probably never even imagine having to deal with and if they have to find enjoyment in the situations they were forced into rather than letting it eat them from the inside out let them. It was due to bad intelligence that Iraq still had chemical weapons. On paper, some of Iraqs chemical weapons marked for disassembly by the UN was unaccounted for/missing.
Plus on top of that Iraq had a history for supporting certain "groups" that did bad things.
Additionally Iraq began refusing to allow UN inspectors into the country.
With September 11th having occurred just a year prior the US as well as Britian and Poland were worried that Iraq may be trying to hand off those missing chemical WMDs to groups to use in the US or other countries that participated in the coalition against it during desert storm
