    Can I go back please. It actually made me emotional hearing this for the 1st time in years. So many fond memories! Not just from the football but of life back then. Is it just me or did life seem so much more innocent back then! No selfies, mobiles, internet just you and your mates kicking a ball up and down your street!

    30 years on it's now retrospectively widely remembered and regarded as the poorest World Cup of all time - yet I couldn't hate Italia 90... So many iconic moments and so many memories / so much nostalgia. I was 10, so was far too young to remember 1982 and only have very vague memories of Mexico 86, but this theme tune and BBC's Nessun Dorma were both brilliant that World Cup. Remember the Panini Sticker albums, Coca-Cola balls, England / New Order's #1 hit World In Motion, T-shirts with the mascot Ciao on, long hot summer days, being allowed to stay up late to watch the matches... And, having never had much of a relationship with my dad for the first ten years of my life (as my younger sister was his favourite), I have very fond memories of this particular World Cup from suddenly spending lots of time with him and - possibly like many other young boys in that era - bonding with my dad through football... Now I'm 40, and my dad is no longer with us (he passed away two years ago aged 67), but I do have a 9-year-old son of my own, and we have an absolute blast together watching the football every weekend... Some memories are just priceless! Tutti Al Mondo - football is indeed truly the world's game! ⚽️

    • @DBergkamp

      It shouldnt be remembered as the poorest when 2002 happened 🤣

    • @hugodrax71
      @hugodrax71 Před 3 lety +2

      It was poor although I'd say 2010 was worse and remains the worst ever. Italia '90 had all the ingredients to be a great World Cup - great host nation, great stadiums, great players - but it just didn't happen. The first round was decent but after that we had lots of negativity and games ending in penalty shoot-outs. The era of teams being too afraid to lose had arrived.

    that sweet moment when Canigglia scores and put out of the world cup Brazil, Brazil on tears, disappointment, suffering on the fans and on this beautiful lady or the moment when the dutch give a masculine sign of tenderness and affection to Rudy Voeller, ha, ha, impossible to forget that memorable summer of 1990 when you were at that time a young school student , even when sometimes this world cup is remembered like the anti-football cup with strong defensive systems of playing and not big individuality, creations and speed, of course for me i remember more and with more affection the world cups of 1978, 1982 in Spain with great matches like Brazil-Italy or France-germany and 1986 in Mexico with matches like France-Brazil or Argentina-england , better times those years of 1980s and beginning of 1990s. more simple, natural and spontaneous and free all the evil and disasters and troubles of all kind that are present in our actual era.

      Aye, Stojkovic, Prosenecsky and co. Roger Milla's dance at the corner flag and not even his last world cup too despite his age! USA's first World Cup since 1950, the USSRs, Czechoslovakia and West Germany's last world cups before political change and the fall of the iron curtain.
      Scorpion Kick Colombian keeper. Maradona playing to for the Neapolitanos and for their support for Argentina against Italy, with the working class narrative of the poor south against rich Italy. Ireland hit the quarters. Schillaci was the draw but Baggio outshone him in many respects and the player people were talking about to watch. Rijkaard spat in Voller's hair in the ever heated German-Dutch rivalry. Hagi world cup debut. England laughed at Cameroon in the tunnel and were arrogant then proceded to have their arses handed to them till they woke up and corrected it. 😂😂😂
      My beloved Scotland embarresing us by underestimating Costa Rica and supplying yet more heart ache, another 1 goal narrow loss to Brazil and a victory over Sweden but too little too late.
      A Spanish side most people probably forget qualified for the world cup. A South Korea side that didn't quite capture the imagination like they did in Mexico 86 with Cha Bum Kun.
      A final that was a wet flannel with a poultry penalty to decide the result, German efficiency rather than beauty determining the result. Ahhhh Italia 90! A classic, but no means the best world cup there has ever been, probably at least 4 tournaments ahead of it.

    And this theme was overshadowed by Nessun Dorma, and thus its brilliance rarely commented on. Delighted to be able to enjoy it again!
    (PS: I always doubted those women were *really* Brazilian. So cynical so young...)

      Yeah, the actual football quality was abysmal, they even changed some rules after it. The final match was a disgrace, still, it was fun to watch and get caught up in the drama.

      The best sides were England,Germany and Cameroon since they actually tried to score goals instead of stalling around for the penalty shootout. That Argentina-Germany final was downright ugly though TBH finals are usually a let down.

      millions of Brazilian are from European or Caucasian ancestry, do you know that millions of European people from Italy, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Spain , Portugal , Greece , Macedonia, Switzerland, Croatia, Sweden, their ancestors migrated to centroamerica and south America at the same time when other millions of relatives migrated to australia, Canada, USA, south Africa, new Zealand, in fact millions of European traversed the panama isthmus long time before the canal of the French lesseps and the Americans of teddy Roosevelt was completed, they made that on the train route or railway who crossed at the 19 century that territory of Colombia, then the new grenada republic, they migrated to the Americas and Caribbean region on the 19 and 20 centuries, not only to north America the Europeans and Asians ( with Arabs, Turks , and Jews also ) migrated, on 19 and 20 centuries, millions of European and also Asian labourers, tradesmen and peasants and miners ( from china, Korea, japan , Philippines , the French Indochina and British former colonies of India , ceylan and Burma ) migrated to centroamerica, caribbean islands and south America, the Europeans and Asians settled principally in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay , Mexico, costa Rica, Cuba, Venezuela , Guatemala, panama, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Guyana, Belize, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Surinam, bonaire, Aruba, curazao, trinidad and Tobago, Bolivia , in fact if you read documents or fact sheets like the CIA reports on Latin America, Oxford studies of Latin America by leslie bethell and other historians on other books, or the Wikipedia page on race and culture, ethnicity on Latin America you will find that 35-40 percent of the total population of Latin America are originated from white, European or Caucasian or Indo-European ancestry and they arrived there from 16 century until 19 century in one first wave of migration, with 600 thousand Spanish migrants, military personnel , clergymen, settlers, traders, miners, officials and peasants , for the Spanish kingdoms of overseas, for Brazil , similar number of Portuguese arrived to their former overseas kingdoms in the Americas and Asia , Brazil also was colonized on 17 century by the Dutch , when they took the north east of Brazil from the Portuguese and on 16 century the French protestants also had colonies on the south east of Brazil, those colonies were lost to the catholic Portuguese after war between Huguenots of France and the Portuguese, the second wave of European migration to the new born nations of centroamerica and south America and also the Caribbean and Mexico begun on 19 century , hundred thousand of Europeans and yanks settled on Texas , Texas was a territory of Mexico until the yankee invasion and war of 1845, also was the same with California, Utah, new Mexico, Colorado , Arizona, the British arrived to the ex-former Spanish colonies with the wars of independence of those nations, 20 thousand British, Scottish, Irish and also European Napoleonic veterans and yanks fought on the bloodiest hispanoamerican wars of independence against Spain with o Higgins, Bolivar and San martin, in fact many non Spanish or Portuguese subjects arrived before the independence of those countries of Spanish and Portuguese empire because, the European monarchies or kingdoms or empires on Europe were multinational and multicultural kingdoms and empires, that was the case for the Habsburg house of Austria and Spain on 16-17 centuries but also for the bourbons of Spain and France on 18 century , after the independence the British and American capitals and investments made those countries and economy more efficient and productive and connected to Europe, USA and the globe , with the money arrived people and on 19 century millions of Europeans who were poor and without rights, freedom, jobs, opportunities of a better life on their own countries who were very social conservative and oppressive and with big capitalist exploitation, searched new horizons and opportunities on USA, new Zealand, south Africa, Rhodesia, Surinam, Canada , British or French or Dutch colonies on the Caribbean sea or Asia or the French and British Guyana but also on the new independent countries of the ex-former Spanish and Portuguese viceroyalties, also the modern Brazil was created by the British when the British fleet helped the Portuguese crown, the court and 20 thousand notables of the braganza kingdom of Portugal to flee to Brazil when napoleon and his French armies invaded and captured Spain and Portugal, on the Spanish war of independence against the French Napoleonic invaders the British helped the Spanish juntas and people on the struggle against the French, British armies were sent to Portugal and Spain , wellington was there , on charge of those armies and he worked with the Spanish armies but also Spain and Britain were former old enemies and rivals and competitors for the global supremacy with their own empires and cultural, economical, social, political, religious and philosophical different ways of life and thinking, on the 18 century the people ( under command of blaz de lezo ) of the city of Cartagena of western hemisphere, of western indias , the ordinary people of that former seaport and important city of the viceroyalty of new Granada on the Spanish empire defeated a fleet and army of 20 thousand British and colonial subjects of north America and Jamaica and on 19 century the ordinary people of Buenos Aires and Mendoza and Cordoba defeated a similar task force of British army and fleet under command of Beresford, a British army who had took before Montevideo and colonia of Sacramento, when those military operations to consolidate a British empire on south America and Caribbean sea failed, a new approach and tactics was implemented , why, because great Britain and also western Europe needed at that time, just like on the previous 16, 17 18 centuries, the natural resources and the markets of the western hemisphere, of the Americas, remember that was the destruction and conquest of the pre-columbian societies, kingdoms, empires, civilizations and cultures and their enslavement and exploitation on agriculture and intensive mineral activities that made possible the social and economic resurgence and transformation of western nations of Europe from the dark age of the medieval times to the capitalist, global integrated and controlled world by the Europeans and their posterior conquests on Asia and the pacific and their war against Islamic multicultural and multiracial civilization, the conquest of the Americas by the Europeans and their integration, miscegenation, with the surviving populations of that conquest of the 156 century until 20 century made possible the rise of the white men and the new western civilization, very different from the classical western civilization of Greece and Rome and also of the empires and kingdoms of the medieval times but with ties and related links with those old times, the capitalism begun on Italian Mediterranean and close related to the silk continental european-asian and species trade, cities of the 14 century, before the discovery and conquest of the Americas and the begin of the Africa sub-Saharan slave trade but were those 2 important keys that made possible for the first time on the history of the earth, the emergence of an integrated and global world control only by a unique and important civilization with their own fissures, internal fractures and difference and with their own nationalities, races, groups and religious different churches and communities, and that was successful, that new tactic begun with a new form of colonialism and imperialism, first by the English and French and later by the yankees, Russians and Germans and Italians and Japanese ( on Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico , Cuba and centroamerica you will millions of people with Korean, Japanese and Chinese ancestry, in fact in the cosmopolitan modern big region and industrial city of sao paulo, millions of people living there are Brazilian from Japanese, Italian, German, Austrian, French , Korean ancestry, they can speak and write and they have also the costumes and traditions and folk, cultural behaviour of the motherlands of their ancestors , not only the American or the continental or Portuguese or native or African roots of the nation ) , maybe you must to travel more outside Europe or USA or Anglo-Saxon countries, this new approach was the origin of the American real melting pot, not only on USA , on 19 and 20 centuries but on all western hemisphere, it begun at the 16 and 17 centuries with the Spanish and Portuguese, drench, Dutch and British and continued with the yankees and the Russians, Japanese, Chinese, Iranians,Indian, Arab, Turks, Germans, Italians and others, actually , on present times you have there a neocolonialism or economical and political indirect control by the metropolitan and global elites and leader and RULERS NATIONS OF THE peripheries OR COLONIAL AREAS LIKE AFRICA, ASIA, pacific AND SOUTH AMERICA, the economical and cultural and social and intellectual control of those new countries with indirect political control or a mirror of a free political Independence of those countries, only a mirage, not a true reality, only if you are a wasp or a white settler, white racist and European ethnocentric supremacist ( like all followers of HEGEL, Gobineau and Stuart chamberlain ideas and Rudyard Kipling and Cecil Rhodes ideals )supremacist living on USA, Canada, australia or if you are a white imperialist and racist nostalgic of old times you will not understand what i mean......

      @@markkofi8522 I was in Italy during this tournament (I had the good fortune see four games) and the atmosphere was, as you say, fantastic - Italy was a brilliant host nation. But the quality of the football wasn't so fantastic, which is my point. There was a lot of negative football at Italia '90, particularly after the first round while some of the 'fancied' sides - Brazil, Spain and Holland for example - were a big disappointment. In the knockout stages four games (including both semi-finals) ended in a penalty shoot-out and just two knockout games produced more than three goals. In fact, only one quarter-final (England-Cameroon) gave us more than one goal! The 1990 final is one of the worst ever, if not THE worst World Cup final. I tend to find those people who love Italia '90 love it because it was the first World Cup they followed - but when you've grown up with the '78, '82 and '86 World Cups you realise what a drop in quality the '90 tournament was. But again, each to their own.
