The ’90s Are Back

  • The plaintiff and defendant dated and broke up in the ’90s. She says the defendant stole money from her, and she’s sued him for it already. He hasn’t paid her back what he owes, so she’s suing. The defendant argues he and the plaintiff already settled the matter, so there’s no point in being in court. He’s countersuing for lost wages.

The issue comes in that the statement she signed says that he has paid her.
Seeing her in court reading the information and denying what she read shows us she did not comprehend what she signed.

I agree. But she should not have said in the statement that she’d actually accepted the settlement amount without detailing the payment plan, because the wording makes it sound like she’d already received the money as opposed to agreeing TO receive the settlement amount.

If this guy truly paid her anything, then where are his receipts, check stubs or bank statements to prove he paid her any amount of money?!?! That guy brought a financial advisor to court to help him clean up his credit from this outstanding judgement, but all he did was trick that lady into to signing an agreement that he would give her $500 to take of the debt once and for all, but he never paid it. That was her reason for bringing him back to court. I wish Judge Mathis would have asked for written proof of financial payments he made to her.
