I understand that people who work with herd animals are trained - mostly by example and cultural tradition - to disregard the inner experiences of the animals, but the confusion, fear and trauma these calves are experiencing as they are goaded to enter and then find themselves trapped in the chute is readily observable. It is also evident from their full-body flinch - and one calf's immediate attempt to break free of the chute - that they experience physical pain when the tagging device pierces their ear, which has not been numbed. I'm guessing that what is meant by 'no bison injured' is that the meat potion of the body that will be harvested later, when the animal is slaughtered, has not been harmed, and the animal remains ambulatory and able to grow to maturity.

Why not 1st a local anesthesia shot on ear section, as medix use morphine on wounded, then do that process as painless as possible, following give local sedation some more until they heal from tagging....... ..of course, let alone this piercing, metal bracelet without going thru this hurtful process would be the best and humane way....
