Everything you describes happens in almost every profession, bosses who are bullies, people not trusting each other. Happens in a lot of places not just the fire service. I’ve been in for 6 years now and absolutely love it, yes there are dickheads, but you get them in every job. The new generation coming in now is a breath of fresh air at times and have plenty of motivation which has been great for the fire service. Some new people act like they have done 20 years and think the jobs owes them something. Which it doesn’t. Like any job, the company or service was here before you and it will be here after you leave. Your right about the fire service wanting to protect its imagine and only a small portion of people would of been remotely bothered by you washing your car on duty, (I do the same) but I’m aware how it might look so I wouldn’t post it on-line or I make sure no senior managers are going to come in whilst I’m doing it other wise they might ask questions on why I’m not doing at work. The service listens to the small minority who shout the loudest and have problems with such things in fear of bad PR. (I 100 percent agree it’s ridiculous at times) but we ultimately need to keep the publics trust, because that’s what gets us into peoples homes without questions to do home safety visits etc. so I can see both sides to the story. Also you’ve posted videos on your CZcams/tik tok with the N word In it, in another video you’ve posted pictures and videos of yourself in uniform with the services badge on display. I do think that was pretty silly and you should of known better, because ultimately thats bad PR for the service and they are trying to recruit people from different backgrounds. Also in this video you have just posted yourself driving whilst on your phone which is even more stupid! Like we should be setting a standard for road safety, we know the consequences of poor driving, and doing that simply isn’t and it’s dangerous, also whilst wearing the services uniform like come on man!! I just started watching your videos and I thought it was nice to see someone in the UK doing this kind of stuff, it all seems American atm. Officers lead by example with experience not box ticking to get promotion . You say you spoke to FBU officials I am hoping you listen to there advice . Your case should have fought tooth and nail to make sure you were not putting yourself in the wrong position . Driving whilst on the phone 📱, and with derogatory language in the background music has not done you any favours , but not anything which could not have been resolved. Fire services have a great need to go back to the basics training , team work watch friendships etc . Direct entry for station managers a classic disaster both short and long term as an example . Being completely honest here mate as someone who’s been in the fire service for two year now and similar age to yourself, it seems to be me like the job just wasn’t for you and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! You went through the process and done more than most people, but think you nailed it on the head with one of your statements you either fit the mold or you don’t. Ultimately the brigade will always protect itself, it sucks and at times you can get screwed over especially if you’re outspoken individual such as yourself with a social media following it will only paint a bigger target on your back, but glad you’re feeling better after all lad and hopefully maybe you will decide the job is for you again. The fire service clearly isn’t for you . A 2 yr guy knows nothing and when a new officer asks you do training doesn’t matter if you’ve done it before . Our job is about repeating skills till you can’t get it wrong . All officers have different expectation levels, some like to train a lot . Sounds like you had a lazy officer to begin with and you got comfortable. Being adaptable is key to this job
I was in a department that had a 1.5 year rookie relief driving, a 3 year rookie AIC and a rookie fresh out of the academy running 16-19 calls a day in a rolling 20 ton $500,000 piece of equipment. And I was criticized for not wanting to relief drive after 1 year of being on.
I was a firefighter for 8 years.. It was a complete joke and waste of taxpayer money. Just like you said "different officers have different expectations" That is exactly the problem. There has to be standards and structure. It can't be a free for all. You can't have three different ways of daily procedures depending on what shift your on or who the officer is for the day. That leads to nothing but chaos bickering and confusion.... You can't have chaos and confusion at emergency scenes where people's lives are at stake.
I recently left the fire service as well due to mental health. I was never mistreated and had a good crew but just seeing people die almost every shit really had an affect on my mental health. Before getting on, I lost my 2 month old nephew to sids and performed cpr on him in which he still passed away (it was too late). My biggest goal was to become a fireman after this incident. I made it through the academy and one of the top of my class so I got to pick any fire house in the city I wanted to go and of course went to a busy one to get experience, but with busy comes stress, I became very depressed and hyper vigilant about seeing another child die. I believe it is one of the greatest jobs in the world but my past experiences just took a toll on me while doing the job. Thanks for sharing you story, I think firefighters mental health really matters.
Hey mate I have just applied for London fire service and last year we had a prem baby 26 weeks , after a Rocky start he survived, but I see 3 babies pass one with a single mum , it's really hard and the lowest felling of darkness and verystressful i get it , for me i became less triggered on each one but its very hard. Our son survived, i wouldn't know what todo if God hadn't of gave him the chance to live, I recall last year on his worst 2 weeks I cried twice once with my partner and once with the Chaplin. I just could work out why God doesn't help all babies and trade this with horrible people. I just put it down to cards that are delt and the world is perfect. Lucca still on oxgent but getting stronger everyday, I think my reward would be to save children.
Personally I would have joined the Fire Brigade boxing or BJJ team and anything that needed sorting out do it there . Everything else is noise . Your all comrades. Think social media doesn't help people .
I spent 17 years as a firefighter in the USA and I don’t know what it’s like over in England. I feel that there’s a bigger brotherhood. The thing is I went through 4 different fire chiefs. The last two were very useless as leaders. I miss the fire service but my body will not let me do it anymore. Social media will always be the downfall of public safety. I also got in trouble with social media as well. I think if you go over to the states and see what the fire service is really like such as FDNY or any big city fire departments. Don’t give up on the fire service just yet. It sounds like your manager is having a huge power trip. I get where you are coming from. I got to where I spoke my mind and if you don’t like it oh well. From my own personal experience (not Fire Service but the Armed Forces), people jump in to protect asshole managers in the hopes their annual appraisal goes in their favour. Brown nosing is a real thing like it is outside of the public service sectors. You just don't expect it to exist in jobs that protect the public/the nation as you assume everyone is there for a noble cause. Turns out... it's just like any other job. Everyone is fighting for promotion and is willing to throw anyone under the bus to get a head. The public services/military now are like corporations in the 21st Century.
I'm obese, I'm working my butt off improving my strength and cardiovascular endurance to lose fat and improve my fitness to become a Firefighter. Its always been my dream, and I forgot that for a while. I went to university and got myself a degree in something I wouldnt ever be proud of. Hence, I can definitely understand to a degree on why you left. I have high respect for you. You educated me a lot on what I need to do to become a firefighter and educated me on the realisms of Firefighting-hood. Thank you Cameron. You made a change in your life because its something you knew you needed to do and many people go years and years without doing so. You are an inspirtation to many including those who need the message of change.

I know where you’re coming from and have experienced much of the same… different managers, different ways of working, different interpretations of policy/procedure etc etc I have also experienced being targeted for raising issues. I moved brigade and thankfully, am in a much nicer environment now however the changing managers is just a regular occurrence. I’m not one to keep quiet if something is wrong. I’ll happily put my head above the parapet and fire shots where they are needed, regardless of rank but after 17 years in the job, I also know that there is a massive element of getting your head down and just doing what has to be done. In my opinion, it’s the best job in the world. It’s made very difficult by a few but you are in charge of your results. If you want something bad enough, only you can make it happen, no matter what others throw in your way.
Firefighting is the best profession in the world. Guys and gals will do it for free. I'm glad you didn't blame anyone specific in your video. Honestly you have to look within and ask why you made CZcams more important than a profession that so many have given their lives for. Fire service has rules bud, just like any role you go for, i don't know you, but your not promoting the fire service, you're representing them, if they think you've posted something that shows them in a bad light, they'll do what they need to. I mean you snapchat while driving to work.. I just came across your channel, but i don't think it's a case of your face didnt fit. More that you as a person wasn't really right for the job. You've 2 years in, don't know if you were competent before leaving but I'm guessing not. Personally i don't see an issue with posting clips on your journey after getting in, I'm all for well informed videos. For those unware, Yes, for a while its best to be a sponge, you need to be, all youve learnt in training is just the absolute basics in order to allow you to perform the role and for 2 years you'll be assessed and develop the basics constantly, either through drill training or out on incidents. All firefighters, regardless of how long they've been in, will drill the basics, pumping drills, ladder drills, BA, RTC. I hate the term but it's your "bread and butter" it needs to become natural for you and its easy to get skill fade even on the basics if you're on a quiet station. There'll be plenty of opportunities to develop more skills after you've become a competent firefighter, until then it's a case of you doing what needs to be done, showing a bit of discipline to just crack on with the job and learn. For me, it's the best job in the world, but you have to approach it with the right mentality, you know nothing, so watch, listen and learn. Show you're keen to do so. Don't be afraid to speak up if you think something is wrong, the job is tough at times, you'll need thick skin, of course your watch is going to rip you for posting on tiktok, but after its all done, you'll have a second family and a job to be proud of.
Do you they’ve moved on from this, for example there’s a lady in LFB who’s been posting on socials about her recruitment process etc and it’s been widely excepted.

Fire service is s brotherhood, you can be an independent thinker to a point but if you dont get with the program youre gone. Its one of the last places where ppl dont give af about your feelings. You gotta have thick skin. Of full of type a personalities who all think theyre right and until you have time on, 2 years isnt enough, your opinions or needs dont matter. Your job is to be quite and learn. Sounds like it wasnt for you bro, no offense but 2 years wasnt long enough for you to earn you place and start doing stuff out of the norm. 2 years is more than enough time to talk about my experiences going through recruitment and initial stages. If anything I’m more qualified to talk about this than guys in 15 years as I am very fresh and have recently gone through the process. The recruitment process changes all the time. Fire service is s brotherhood, you can be an independent thinker to a point but if you dont get with the program youre gone. Its one of the last places where ppl dont give af about your feelings. You gotta have thick skin. Of full of type a personalities who all think theyre right and until you have time on, 2 years isnt enough, your opinions or needs dont matter. Your job is to be quite and learn. Sounds like it wasnt for you bro, no offense but 2 years wasnt long enough for you to earn you place and start doing stuff out of the norm. A 10/15 year guy making videos is one thing but a new guy making videos when he should he focusing on learning the job.. yeah you pissed off a lot of senior guys.
2 years is more than enough time to talk about my experiences going through recruitment and initial stages. If anything I’m more qualified to talk about this than guys in 15 years as I am very fresh and have recently gone through the process. The recruitment process changes all the time.

@@cameronmcclearyI agree man, I understand in fire service years 2 is small, but in a regular job most people would say you are very familiar with how a job is after a year nevermind 2, you know the fire service and how it is and now you know what it’s like not being in it, I think you should give it another shot with a new department brotha, you have been out of work a while and it’s time to lock back in and get with a different department and do what you do now in your free time
