The bigger Jaegar was surprisingly patient. Like, you know how many times he asked politely for them to power down before whipping out the taser? Kudos.

One "rouge jeager" is literally just a jeager's head on tracks
And only the mark 1 2 3 and 4 used nuke plants later marks used an energy system that constantly produced kinetic energy to power the whole mech.

Fun fact: November Ajax is the only Jaeger officially designed by Guillermo Del Toro in this movie. Del Toro allowed the writers to use November Ajax only as a small cameo for a short period of time. Maybe that's why this scene is very memorable for me and probably for many others. The design is great, the size is ideal and the movements and speed are physically correct

Ajax does scale oddly, sometimes it's huge like in 2:52, then it looks kind of small at 3:17. Pacific rim 1 robots are really big when up close and small only when far away like when gipsy gets thrown by that gorilla kaiju...

More like they are the most realistic in movement when their size is taken into account. As scrapper didnt seem heavy, however it is quite small so its movements are somewhat realistic

The fact that the police have the fund to use jaeger in criminal capturing is astounding.
There are rogue DIY Jaeger incidents before. The police can enlist the help from the Pacific Defence Corps if situation needed.
I think this would have gone a lot faster if Jake was in the pilot seat, Ajax would have put on lethals

The PPDC are not the police. Large parts of SoCal remain a wasteland after pre-Jaeger nuclear strikes to put Kaiju down during the war, and the PPDC stores wrecked Jaegers in this exclusion zone.
With no Kaiju to fight, I expect deploying Ajax from the LA Dome to deter break-ins at their graveyard is viewed as healthy. Keeps Jumphawk pilots, J-Tech workers, and Rangers sharp in case they're needed for quick deployment to a natural disaster. Or an accident that causes a bridge to collapse (Which Ajax responded to, saving hundreds of lives). Or something worse...
As said above, Ajax wasn't there randomly. The PPDC knew about the break in and theft. If Jake can track that power signature, he's undoubtedly not alone.
Besides, it's not as if a Mk. 6 Jaeger is going to need a full overhaul and millions in parts after dealing with typical criminals and small arms fire. 🤣
Rogue Jaegers are a big deal because "Drift-tech" remains cutting edge and is highly secured and regulated.
As hard as it is to imagine Santa Monica as a crime ridden cesspool, that's how it is in the movie. Which in turn sets up the conflict that underpins it; After nearly being wiped off the Earth, should humanity be spending resources on Jaegers, Domes, Staff and Research? Or cutting costs to free up money to fully rebuild the cities originally destroyed in the war?
IMHO that's actually an interesting thought exercise, could you ever truly move on when you have no way of knowing if the enemy you defeated is gone for good?
There's plenty in this movie that leaves me shaking my head. A Jaeger being deployed to stop theft at a PPDC facility didn't make my personal cut, but I can see why plenty feel otherwise.

Of course Ajax is calm, he’s dealing with a scrappy teenager and her toy robot. If Ajax was fighting a full sized Jaeger or a Kaiju then no punches would be pulled.

November ajax is the only one that feels so heavy than the other jaegers
They only did that so that the smaller jeager would feel faster but it made Ajax seem more realistic.
The first movie has better cinematography, art direction and choreography and makes everything look good, this movie looks like its made by marvel..
Thats because its the only Jaeger in this movie thats designed and 'directed' by Guillermo Del Toro as an Easter egg.
Guillermo was the director of the first installment, which is why this scene is probably the most memorable from this poor excuse of a sequel.
This one scene gave me hope, and then they stepped so far away from the first movie. I loved the close ups on all the running gears and hydraulics as the jaegers slowly walked past the camera in the first movie
This film really felt like that low budget, direct to VHS sequal kinda film. Had none of the love or care to it the original had.
The first film made the jaegers feel almost real. They had physics and reacted to things in ways that seemed genuine. They felt like actual machines that could be plausible.
In this.. it's got none of the same weight to it. It feels like an old episode of power rangers. Just some guys in suits bouncing about.
Seems like Pacific rim had the same fate as transformers where the effects and the overall visuals just got progressively worse with each new movie

November Ajax was the only Jaeger that felt like a Jaeger
Well, there are 4 throughout the entire movie. Scrapper feels perfect with movement for it’s size. November Ajax for it’s slow and clunky movement. Titan Redeemer and Bracer Phoenix feel realistically slow since because of the massive wrecking ball they both had.

Scrapper as a mono pilot jaeger sounds totally necessary for anti kaiju combat.
Would be a really useful class of Jaeger for rescuing civilians or fighting smaller kaiju while full sized Jaegers handle the big boys.

One of the few movies that makes me mad. The first Pacific Rim is a modern masterpiece. Every sci-fi and monster movie tropes done to perfection. The sequel burned any follow up giant mecha movies. No live action Gundam is your fault and you should feel bad about it.
And that gives me more reasons to hate the first Pacific Rim movie's fanbase even more, thanks alot.

I haven't seen the 2nd movie, but a big Red Flag for me here...a child pilot....in a mini robot. Next thing you know these two will be in a casino running wild and escaping on the backs of big dog/horse things.

@@atroxiv The whole chase lasted less than 3 minutes with just 1 1/2 power cells. She had to hoard a ton of power cells or scavenge some sort of power generator(and hoard fuel to power it) in order to survive a Kaiju filled world for some time.
Let's say she was never caught by the PPDC and she somehow managed to scavenge a handful of powerful cells by the time the second invasion happened. She'd have probably mere hours running around before she exhausted her supplies. Let's not even think about her surviving the catastrophic global environmental change from the Kaiju's assault on Mount Fuji.

Pacific Rim Black is just like a bland black coffee, not bad, but not good either. The first season was cool, but the second was a bad rollercoaster of female-hormone riddled, decisions made by a certain overemo female character. No offense, the ending of the second season is also pretty subpar as well.

Looking at Ajax’s gear aswell as color scheme makes it seem like it is a “authority” jeager used to stop and detain rogue or jerry rigged jeagers, As well as the sigil on its chest showing that you are now under arrest by a group that controls Jaegers. That bit where November Ajax tapped his finger on Scrapper didn't look natural. It looked fake because it didn't seem to be affected by physics. The first Pacific Rim was much better at showing just how strong and heavy the Jeagers were. Every step, every punch was heavy. When something as big as a building is trying to move, it's going to look slow and labored due to air resistance. November Ajax's, and most of the other Jeagers' movements, were too fast and smooth for it to believably be done by robots the size of a skyscrapers.
November Ajax was designed by del toro but the reason it isn’t heavy is because they probably got some trash animators and cgi people

That is likely mainly from perspective, as a lot of those shots are seemingly from either at Ajax's feet, or at his head

A whole army of scrappers more efficient than the big boys. Utilize swarm tactic 50, 100, a thousand could take down a Kaiju still be hugely cheaper.

@@Genesis-he8ok I don't see how much more effective they'd be, you'd have a much higher loss of life and training pilots won't be cheap in the first place, let alone you need to find people who are not afraid of piloting them (Unless you want to go authoritarian and enact conscription of every able-bodied person around the globe). Even if we did have a swarm of these guys, how effective are they at keeping the kaiju at bay at the Miracle Mile? As far as the kaiju is concerned, it would fight them off but keep moving towards its primary target as smaller jaegers can't physically wrestle with them to stay in said Miracle Mile. Not that bigger is always necessarily better, but they already used swarm tactics with Trespasser, he didn't give a single F about the military forces beyond crushing them as they got in his way.
There will be a much higher loss of life, the kaiju would just keep moving forward as these smaller ones wouldn't be necessarily as big a problem to it in the immediate moment, and said little ones can't just grab the kaiju by the arm, leg, or tail to keep them in the Miracle Mile or beyond it
Swarm tactics only work when you're prepared to write off a significant chunk of the swarm.
_Maybe_ swarming kaijus with thousands of smaller robots would bring them down but each attack would see a significant number of scrappers and their human pilots lost.
@@SaurabhKudterkar Yes, perhaps so, but I'd wager it would still be cheaper to mass produce scrapper types and much easier and quicker to train pilots. Millions of humans needing work, wanting to fight but millions have to sit by doing nothing while a limited number of expensive showponies and their superstar special heroes who can sync do the fighting as Champions of the "King" while an unarmed populace/army stands by as bystanders cheerleading and hoping for the best? The whole Big Boy project flawed from start to finish.
Bro they'll get snapped like toothpicks, they're better for civilian evac, weapon supplies, damage control, construction, maybe a distraction or kamikaze at the Kaiju.

The voice of November Ajax doesn't sound human, I mean it sounds intimidating all right, but at the same time it sounds so "fake". Are the pilots using a voice modulator or something?
The police jaeger was the only one in the movie that felt like a jaeger the rest just did not give that big robot feel at all

@@iamafuckingfailure Which doesn't seem to make much sense to me, since even the biggest machines usually have the same number of limbs as a human.
@@peytonmac1131 the neural load of a heavy machine would put tons of stress on the pilots brain causing seizures and blood clots idk, if it was mechanical load the limbs are gone, but sharing it with another pilot can even out the load of the pilots brain because it’s being evenly shared with another pilot

Scrapper reminded me of Bumblebee so much that it made the movie alright to watch. And, either way, I didn't think too hard about it when watching.
Whitout Guillermo del Toro this movie is just another blockbusters of the bunch

I might be wrong here, but didn't the first would-be pilot have his brain melted trying to move a single limb? I don't think "the Jaeger being smaller" would make it single-pilot compatable.
That jaeger was bigger then tin can jaeger on legs, also it was the first jaeger to exist and probably had some goofy flaws, meanwhile tin can has been field tested by some 14 year old who got a B- on mathematical equations
