  • August 5/2019 Summer Hike
    Today we are in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, in Kananaskis Country, Alberta. We will be hiking/scrambling to the top of Grizzly Peak. The trail is 5.6 kilometers out and back, with an elevation gain of 875 meters. According to AllTrails, I hiked 7.7 kilometers with an elevation gain of 884 meters. This one was a beast, my hardest hike yet. All you do is go straight up. Once you get to the backside to the mountain the views are unbelievable, a whole different world. There is a beautiful meadow before you make the last push up to the summit. I saw around 40 mountain goats on the other side of the meadow. If you plan on doing this hike/scramble make sure you have all the proper gear. And of course the 360 views from the top are spectacular.
    This is my 47th video. Thank you very much for watching. If you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up. If you would like to see my other videos, Subscribe to my channel. Thank you for sharing! We will be in Kananaskis in 2 weeks, and your tail rewiews are super helpful! As harder the trail, the better, no people around wearing flip-flops)

    Great Vidz as always Cary! A must watch for anyone wanting to do this hike. I agree it was not an easy hike and easy to get lost especially on the way down. More power!

    Thanks for sharing your adventure! We would probably hike this on this weekend. They say it's a good intro for beginners on scramble. Would you recommend grip-ons for the shoes?

      I had my cleats with me and put them on going down, I should have worn them on the way up, would have helped on the steep grassy parts.

    curious about the spikes/cleats you put on for the decent

    • @LIVEONALBERTA
      @LIVEONALBERTA  Před 2 lety

      They are the ones I wear in the winter. Around $35 bucks on Amazon. They worked great on the grass areas and the dirt areas going down. The traction on my boots wasn't the best.

    you seem to hike a lone a lot of the time. Are you ever worried about running into Wildlife/bears/cougars?

    • @LIVEONALBERTA
      @LIVEONALBERTA  Před 4 lety +1

      It is always on my mind, that I might run into an animal on the trail. I try to be as alert as I can to my surroundings. I am constantly talking and making as much noise as I can, so I don't surprise an animal. I always carry bear spray, ready to disperse at a moment's notice. I know they are out there, have been lucky so far.

    What type of cleats do you use?

    • @LIVEONALBERTA
      @LIVEONALBERTA  Před 3 lety

      They are called EnergeticSky ice cleats. I got them from Amazon. They are $38.99. I have had mine for 2 years now are they are awesome.
