Elizabeth Line - Farringdon Station Open Day

  • Crossrail had another one of their open days, where the public can get to come in and see how the #ElizabethLine station is shaping up ahead of it opening in December 2018.
For me, it's always a chance for two things though ... 1) To see where the exits are for the new stations, and ... 2) Are they still giving out free Oyster wallets with the name of the station written on them? I need to collect the full set!

Hi Geoff. I work for a signage company on the Isle of Wight who manufactured the totems at Farringdon. I am the head of the artwork department. Its great seeing our work installed as we don't often have the opportunity. I just wanted to say thanks for a great vid. I discovered you a few months back and have been really enjoying your work, especially your Island Line video. We produced all the signage for that to :)

I'm wondering if passengers will be regularly seen walking down each train whilst on route, to get to the front or rear to exit at the right place for them, making CrossRail trains a kind of travelator..... Get on in the middle at Hayes and walk to the back of the train ready to exit at Farringdon.

Wow, Robert Miles would be very proud right now. How amazing is that?

Geoff you realise that purple is a false colour don't you? Basically when light of a single wavelength comes into our eyes it fires the colour receptors closest to the wavelength, there is an exception to this: yellow coesn;t fire any colour receptors. But purple fires blue and red receptors (at the extreme ends of what we can see) without firing the green ones (in the middle of the spectrum). Purple is our brain's way of saying "I'm confused: this colour makes no sense, help!"

As a North American, I tend to leave out the 'Y' sound in 'tube': toob. But when we hear the UK pronunciation, we hear 'Chewb'. But now I'm noticing that Geoff pronounces it more carefully than that: 'Tyoob'. (Just the observation of an under-employed mind...)

As where I live there are less than 30 trains a day on two lines (west & south) looking at the sheer number and variety of train option in and around London is mind blowing.

I went past Rugby Station today and saw the new crossrail trains in a siding, I was very excited! My first sighting of the already iconic purple IRL

Geoff was asked if he liked Crossrail/Elizabeth Line more than Thameslink or vice versa.

Why don't they make Westbound Platforms "Platform W" and Eastbound Platforms "Platform E"?

I live across the ocean and I’m super-hyped for Crossrail ! The esthetics and volumes are breathtaking. What a breath of fresh air and a release this will be for Greater London !

"How many Oyster Wallets can I have?" - "as many as you want" - "uhm, look - I have roughly 73000 youtube subscribers... - Would it be possible..." :)

Another cracking video Geoff. Been in the rail industry 2 years now and learnt lots from your channel. Hoping to see another one soon, something to do with a certain longest rail journey on the longest day ;)

Thanks soo much for this! I try to watch each ones twice so when I come out to visit later this year or next year, I'm aware of which lines goes to where and such! Keep up the great work!

I can remember the KFC and The Raj Tandoori (the latter only open Monday-Friday) where the new entrance to Farringdon Station is now. Also, they kept the "from December 2018" legend on the Crossraill/ Elizabeth Line hoardings right up until January 2019, even though we were told it wouldn't open in December as far back as August last year. I still regularly see purple trains running in and out of Abbey Wood on test.
