Its so odd seeing cait as a cold bitch. In my playthrough she and my guy really bonded over shared trauma and now she actually acts quite warm around people. I swear I hear her humming sometimes. I knew she was the one after we spent some time in knee deep water casually hacking feral ghouls to pieces while anything goes played on the radio and she yelled out "I've never had so much fun in me life" Some definite issues there but she's a sweety.
I haven't talked to her once since I met her, and I've also heard her humming a tune around my settlement. She just does that sometimes. That's not affinity dependent.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who actually invested time in developing a close relationship with her instead of just writing her off as a cold selfish bitch the way most people do. You'd think real players would have more empathy and be more understanding of hardship and trauma than this universe's denizens...
@@Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian >You'd think real players would ... be more understanding of hardship..."
Why would you think that? People in real life generally don't go through anything remotely as traumatic as Cait has, while people in the Fallout universe are generally very familiar with this sort of thing.
Cait is kind of a shitty person. Not necessarily evil, certainly not irredeemable, but unkind, uncharitable, selfish, and disdainful of anyone who doesn't act like that. She has reasons for being who she is, but those reasons aren't anything that people in first world nations irl have any frame of reference to comprehend. Her attitude isn't even unusual for wastelanders, let alone unsympathetic. Whereas for people in the nice, safe real world would be very likely to distrust someone who would abandon a child in the wilderness.
Cait sucks
The fact that you say that knew she is the one is... fascinating...

I feel bad about this kid. But makes me happy when the parents are still alive & love him.
This quest always struck me as intensely heartwarming, especially considering what the Sole Survivor goes through, and more so if you do it after the main story- you lose your spouse and spend the whole story looking for your baby, and when you find him hes an old man- and shortly after, you lose him too.
The Peabodys, though? They had to have given up on ever seeing Billy again a long time ago. Even if he survived the bombs, he would have lived 80 more years at a stretch- they had to have navigated their grief long before you showed up, especially once they found out how *rare* ghoulification is.
But.
One day Billy, who they had no chance of ever seeing again, runs back into their lives, almost identical to the day they thought they lost him forever.
I always make sure to go get Billy when I start a new save. It's just a really nice quest, for all its shortcomings.

Seeing this reminded me of an idea I had when I first found Billy and did the quest. It would be really interesting if there was a location that was like Little Lamplight, but the inhabitants were all pre-war ghoul children between the ages of 6-17, plus the hundreds of years after the war. But I think it would also be cool if their parents were all feral ghouls that they had rounded up from their respective houses and locked up because they didn't want to see their parents kill anyone or be killed. It'd be a heartbreaking bit of the lore, but I think it has so much potential.
I like Billy's response to him being sold.
Thing is... ghouls in previous lore DO need to eat and need water. There is a major storyline in the first Fallout dealing with killing an entire city of ghouls by cutting off their water. As for food, it is 100% mentioned they need to still eat in the quest Come Fly With Me in New Vegas.
ya but that doesnt make sense if thats true what about Feral ghouls? Despite their "need for flesh" if they required constant food and water intake it would be a huge limitation on their population size. One of the constant reasons for them to be so numerous to act in swarm tactics was due to pre-war population sizes. Over 200 years if they needed such sizable food sources like humans their population would have drastically diminished. There is also the skin tight dehydrated nature of their bodies with seemingly less muscle mass and water quantity than regular humans they constantly look anemic yet move so quickly. Them not requiring or requiring far less food or water to survive solves all those lingering questions... Hell they REGENERATE from radiation meaning they MUST get their energy/calories from radioactive sources in order to feed the regeneration. It could be ghouls can at least partially subsist on radiation alone.
Yep, without repairing the backup water purifier, Necropolis dies without water. Gecko, the ghoul town in fallout 2 has plenty of farms and even a bar. And you're right about New Vegas
MarcusDarkstar the Ghoul companion in Fallout 3 Sharron/Karron or whatever, his health regenerated with radiation just like a feral. And once you do that one Wasteland Survival quest for Mouria, getting radded out doesn't the Lone Wanderer become able to heal from rads too.
If you take the water chip from Vault 12 (Necropolis) without providing ghoul inhabitants with alternate source of water, they *will* die of thirst.
In addition, in _Fallout: New Vegas_, during the _Come Fly With Me_ quest, you can encounter ghoul named Harland, who was trapped in REPCONN test site by Super Mutants. If asked how he survived for so long by himself, he claims to have lived off radroach meat and used the condensation off the pipes for water.
EDIT: (thanks to *Chirurgeon Crane*) In _Dead Money_ Dean Domino's stashes, created by him for emergencies and survival, will often contain food and water as well.
And now the funny stuff: Even _Fallout 4_ itself contradicts this "ghouls don't need to eat" silliness:
First, should you encounter any feral ghoul, you can sometimes see it crouch and start eating off pile of trash or a dead body.
Second, quest _Duty or Dishonor_ is entirely based around the idea of feeding feral ghouls in order to discourage them from attacking a certain area.
Third, in _Nuka World_, you can learn that a certain ghoulified scientist has been keeping himself alive by eating cloned meat.
And fourth, your ghoul settlers need food and water just like normal settlers do.
So, there *is* indeed plenty evidence in _Fallout_ games suggesting that ghouls need to eat.
+MarcusDarkstar lol So what about ferals...We're talking about pre-feral. Anyway I wouldn't exactly call that surviving... more like their own body is slowing atrophying while the cancer is "replenishing" like you said. Necrotic. Would figure ferals don't expend much energy during the average month (hibernation if you will).
In original fallout sane ghouls usually ran away because their bodies were so frail and crazies weren't meaty at all like bethesda's ferals. Little more than rotting sacks of flesh on a skeleton. But if you crave headcanon, people die every day in the irradiated wastes, possibly adding to their pop. As for me, the biggest issue I have with FO4 is that it takes place 210 yrs later. Honestly in 210yrs nothing would be left. For context, the world ended in 2077, original Fallout happens in 2161, & Fallout4 takes place in 2287. But yea... I never claimed bethesda does things that make sense, so take it up with bethesda why their story has holes in it.

You know what’s more confusing than Billy’s case? That Fusion batteries can powered a building for hundreds of years but can’t powered my power amor for 30 minutes.
Yes...
Thats cause all they power is lights... maybe a few terminals. Compare that to the war machine that is power armor. Each individual leg, arm helmet, torso all consume power. Oh cant forget about the modifications a jetpack, calibrated legs which add +100 carry weight. Hydraulic arms, a ton more melee damage and more strength. OH and the power armor frame itself too which has to hold each piece of armor which weighs 100+ pounds and requires power itself? Ya thats what I thought.
@@mozz14 come on its bethesda contradicting themselves again. The kid in the fridge quest is incredibly dumb as it would suggest ghouls wouldn't need any food and wouldn't go insane if stuck in a fridge for 200 years.
Same with power armour. In the older game they never required a additional power source as the intetnal never seem to run out (which makes way more sense).
Also your analogy is quite flawed. Providing light for 200+ years requires a ridiculous amount of power so expecting a core to run power armour for more than a couple of minutes is absolutely reasonable. If I plug a the battery of a tesla to an appartment complex it would run out way faster than if I use it to drive.
stefan020290 how would a virtually unlimited power source powering an exosuit make any sense?
Well, this can be explained by this simple Fact...

sammyboi 072 BILLY THE FUCKING FRIDGE
So glad they referenced this in the show
I think one major thing Oxhorn is overlooking is the fact that ghouls, being clearly based on undead creatures, sleep like the dead too. Just look at all the ferals you encounter in the game that lie motionless (often even finding them in cemeteries) until you come right up to them. Many don't even react when I search them thinking they're dead and they turn out to be alive - at least until I kill them. Ghouls apparently can spend long periods of time essentially in a coma, and I have always figured that, lacking stimulation, Billy simply slept inside the fridge in virtually the same way the player character spent the same period on cryo sleep - blissfully unaware of the world around him and only vaguely aware of passing time. And perhaps *that* is why is isn't crazy or insane from his long isolation. To him, a 'long time' as he put it could have been mere hours from his perspective, and he only awakened from his coma when he hears (in his sleep) the player character passing by. At the very least I think it makes the entire scenario considerably less unbelievable.
The biggest question *I* had with the story was why, with 210 years being ghouls who were free to move and wide awake, his own parents were so close by and never stumbled upon Billy in the fridge themselves just from mere chance! 210 years is a long time even without actively searching for Billy; just from wandering around looking for items to salvage or something!

IK this video is a year old, but this encounter was inspired by Indiana Jones, where he ends up in a 1960's town that's actually a nuclear bomb testing site. When the nuke falls he is well within immediate lethal range so he hides in a fridge and survives.
I hate the “returning Billy to his parents” scene. They scream and chant his name in happiness, but they don’t hug him at all. Like put some effort into the animations, put some EMOTION in there!!
Jose Chivo and the problem is?
@Jose Chivo well we also get the option to romance Hancock who is OBVIOUSLY a ghoul
@Jose Chivo you're right, ghouls don't animate
R/woooooooosh
You already make emotional sacrifice during the game like the institute and such don’t need more of it.

He is the proof that kids in fallout are literally immortals just because yes.
I saw this video 7 yrs ago and I’m finally playing fallout
"Give us the Gouls or we'll kill you."
It's like they ignore that they're talking to bipedal tank.
Bethesda games are like that.
Oblivion: that guy in deadric armor just killed 3 deadras, and shut down an oblivion gate. Let's Rob him!
Skyrim: that guy in Dragonplate armor just took out two dragons and consumed their souls.... Let's Rob him!
Fallout 4.... Well you covered that
Metal gear?
Me: in full power armor, with a fat man.
Random Wanderer: starts shooting at me
Me: fucking obliterates the dude
The fact that he is in a fridge is maybe a easter egg to indiana jones when he use a fridge for survive in a nuclear explosion, just like in new vegas where you find a skeleton in a fridge with a strange hat.
Detective John Kimble stfu racist ass
Ov3RKill33 \ racist?
If you have the whacky wasteland perk in new vegas theres an indiana jones reference
Detective John Kimble There's been so many references in Bethesda titles, I find it hilarious that people complain about how Bethesda isn't as good as Obsidian. Before Fallout 4, everyone hated Fallout: New Vegas. Every person that talked about it had their reasons as to why they didn't like Obsidian's entry. Then magically, they called it the best Fallout title ever
Nope there is another fridge in fallout 3 where there's a skeleton of a guy with a hat and Jones's clothes that's the reference for Indiana jones
"help me! i was trapped in a fridge for 200 years!"
" jesus kid u look like bacon"
Most people: shot the door wasting ammo.
Me: (Bayonet on rifle go stab and door falls off in one hit)

"You're gonna show me where you live... so I can loot it."
Lmao😂
I first discovered this quest by accident. I was in a firefight with some Gunners (or raiders, I don't remember) and a stray bullet hit the fridge.
Honestly if they did something like the fridge was thrown in the blast and billy was in a coma that whole time and the first part of the quest is to revive him then it would make more sense why he not mentally damaged. Also even though the door is metal kicking it constantly over a long period of time would make it open eventually.
I’m freakin dying the wife sounds like marge simpson
Local Meme dealer 😂😂 my thinking exactly
