- CRUISE TIP # 21 PICK A SHIP THATS RIGHT FOR YOU.
Nothing can ruin a cruise more than going on a cruise ship that is not for you. make sure you pick a cruise line and a ship that fits what you want out of a cruise.
Great Advice, at 70+ I'm not interested in zip lines! lol
Hell..at 48 I'm not interested 🙄🙄
I'm 70+ solo. I love the extreme zip line in Puerto Vallarta! It's good to be old!
We Like Royal, they have a little bit of everything. And we love the entertainment.
Yes and it could be several that suit you. Princess suits me and my style.
I'm 65 and want quiet high end cruises but my wallet says budget. So, longer cruises like transatlantic or 10 night repositioning provides me respite from children and partying. Of course the air often makes these types of cruises expensive so we book interior cabins to help us with ticket costs. Here's to long cruises during shoulder season!
Great tip. If you try one line and didn't like it then keep trying other lines to find the one that you like.
My husband and I are in our mid 60's. We have both the older crowd personally and a fun, adventureous side. So, we choose our cruises to suit our mood or destination choice at the time. We like Holland America for a relaxing cruise with just the right entertainment and fun activities. Enjoying a painting class, learning origami, taking in a movie or show, relaxing in the spa, or enjoying a special dinner is perfect for our need for relaxing. While with Royal Caribbean, we get everything we crave for extra fun, excitement, and entertainment. We enjoy zippling, the scavenger hunts, and watching pool activities, as well as participating in added activities. All this makes for a real enjoyable time for our adventureous side. However, to be fair... we haven't tried any other cruise lines but are open to doing them in the future.
Great suggestion 🛳️🛳️
There's so much info available from many great content creators and long time cruisers.
Longer trips at almost 70 I enjoy not having to get on and off the ships
I think it depends, too, on what you enjoy when cruising: for some it is shows and the activities on the ship; for others (like me) it is a chance to relax and enjoy the sea views and see interesting places. If I want to drive a go-cart or go to a water park I can do that on land. But walking around a promenade deck seeing the sunrise, or visiting a port of call that isn’t visited by the megaships is my idea of a cruise. Good thing there are different styles of cruises for everyone
Thanks Don!
Good points!
Thanks for the advice
Keep up the good work!
Have enjoyed your tips along the way.
Good advice here
Thanks Don
Another excellent tip,
Although I think it would be fun to try the different amenities and activities on the bigger ships, I just don't tolerate crowds as much as I used to.
Good advice
Definitely take the time to do a bit of research to find out what the vibe/vision/mission of each cruise line is and pick the one that matches most with your preferences -- that can really make or break your cruise.
Our first cruise after I retired was with Princess. It was such a good fit for us we have stuck with it. However this year we found a great itinerary on Regent Seven Seas. From what I understand, we wont be disappointed
Cruise lines definitely attract certain ages BUT get one that is normally perfectly OK at the wrong time for example when the college breaks are on, and it can be hell. So check the time of year too.
We enjoy the Oasis class ships very much!!
I’ll stick with small ship Seabourn. We are late sixties and have found our line. They are wonderful.
Another great tip Don. Smaller ships for me.
We’re in our mid thirties and found we like the older, smaller ships much better. We were so excited to go on the Vista when it came out and really missed the open atrium with the elevators and lights. It just felt stale and bland. We pick and older and older ship each time and love it.
Yes very good advice, I'M 63 and still like having a little fun and adventure.
Great advice, Don. I recently tried a 3 night cruise on the Carnival Radiance and it is definitely NOT for me. However we did have some delicious food on the ship, especially the pasta bar for lunch at the Italian restaurant. Also we loved our shore excursion which was a wine country tour with tastings and a free bottle of wine. That tour I recommend!
I been on cruises with 3 different cruise line, and like them all, but I seem to always go back to Carnival for the price
I like a disco!
Hi everyone. I’m on the sky princess now .. fir the lovers of peanut butter cookies you need to ask fir them .. because of people having nut allergies they keep them behind the self serve 😊🙋🏻♀️
How about the cruiser that just "doesn't want to go broke cruising"??
Agree
We usually pick based on the itinerary & thus get relegated to older ships.
I always have a great time on Princess.
Don, got any tips for making coffee or tying shoelaces???
My number 1 cruise line is Royal Caribbean. Next is Norwegian
After 20 cruises including the entire Caribbean, Mex Riviera, Canada, and the western Mediterranean, we wholeheartedly prefer the smaller ships like the Spirit/Fantasy class ships. Our first cruise was on the Carnival "Triumph" (now "Sunrise"), in 2004. a mid-sized ship. Last two largest were the Carnival "Panorama" and the exquisite NCL "Epic". We've agreed that our favorite ship is the Carnival "Pride" out of Baltimore and we also like the Celebrity class ships. We have no real "brand" loyalty, but feel ships were not meant to be amusement parks. One day we might do Holland America or perhaps even Cunard. We will do a Princess ship, the Majestic, for the first time next February. As 73 year olds, we are built for COMFORT rather than SPEED!....LOL!!!....
All lines have their strong sides and weak points. I’m willing to travel on eight different ones. Right now, I’m booked on Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Princess. I had originally booked Holland America for this August, but canceled it (because I booked Egypt and the Holy Land, and when it went to hell there, I decided there was no way they’d be going to Israel this year. I was right). Holland America is my least favorite line I’m willing to travel on. Virgin I’m willing to travel on but haven’t yet. NCL has a weak spot when it comes to solo travelers, but I’d put up with it for the right trip. Celebrity would also need to have the right trip, or they could back off their policy of charging solo travelers additional fees on top of the single supplement. I would consider Viking as well.
I’m not a fan of formal stuff, so I probably won’t travel on Cunard, or other posh lines.
The dance party
Also- choose the right ship, in the cruise line. What is the Margaritaville age group?
I think Celebrity, now that it’s going to Coco Cay, as well as status matching, is catering now to families.
Hi Don
My wife and I went on a Celebrity cruise for our honeymoon and hated it, we swore off cruising. Then we bit the bullet and went on a Silver Sea and loved it (that was in our late 20’s) and have stuck with them and Seabourn ever since. So yes finding a ship to match your desires definitely matters.
Disney is my cruise line
I am 58 and my hubby is 60 and I like to cruise on a ship with no kids but because of our age I am afraid to try Virgin cruise line.
I might be 70 but I am not ready for bed at 9pm after my hot chocolate just yet if ever I like the bigger cruise ships with shows live bands music and the silent disco . I like to look smart but not black tie and I do not mind children on a cruise well I was one myself . Not bothered about the pool gym and spa I just like cruises
I have found the Celebrity suits me to a T
The disco duck
Yes if a cruise line is not for you it can make for a bad cruise
I’m 70 now and I’ve been loyal to Royal, but I’m going to try Celebrity.
You are so right. A 25yr old should not pick Celeb or Oceania for a first cruise. Opposite if you're 60ish
Because I don’t drink, smoke or gamble and am a big Disney fan, you know where I’m headed. 😮
Stop the political ads please
Excellent tip for the more newer cruiser Don...
