- A board game based on The Madalorian is coming THIS YEAR from Unexpected Games and designer Corey Konieczka! With shades of a few other games, there are a few details on the game already. We discuss all of them, and speculate on a lot more!

Some other things I was able to learn from everything shown so far:
- There are only 2 envelopes: 1 including the optional traitor mode and 1 including components to remix the missions for more variability. I quote the designer: "I've played close to a hundred games, and the variability made each game play out differently!"
- Each mission gets a 2 page comic book style introduction in the mission book which should help to make it more thematic. Some of the event cards also seem to feature story bits.
- At certain combined card values for each action (reaching it/going over) you turn over a card and move/attack with all enemies of the type shown on that card (the card back also seems to show the type of enemy that is going to do something the next time this card gets turned over, so you can plan ahead but don't know all the details)/trigger a bad game effect.
- Missions seem to vary a lot based on the Mission Rules shown at the top. For example, the map shown has "Bunker Access" where you try to reveal the right tokens on the map to unlock the door.
- Corey also revealed that there are special rules for solo play that make it really interesting.
- I believe all characters are unlocked from the start but as you said, you have at least choose the characters shown for the mission.
Great research! Thanks for sharing. 😁
@@meeple 😅 It is very rare that I'm that excited for a new game release. But a full cooperative Star Wars game, especially with the spaghetti western-like Mandalorian setting, sounds great to me. They also did an excellent job here with the graphic design and art direction. I was hoping for a long time to see a cooperative LCG for Star Wars, e.g. playing as Jedi Outcasts... but this here makes me happy as well 🙂.
I don't paint miniatures so I prefer standees. Also, Polygon has an interview with Cory and he mentions there is a mode that can have a hidden traitor, although the mandalorian can never be the traitor.
From what I've gathered from Polygon interview, you first go through story mode campaign unlocking rules and stuff and then can play one-offs, mix and match, with traitor mode etc. So maybe characters are unlocked as story progresses based on the show.
Interesting. I’ll have to go check out that article.
I suspect that players are not controlling one character but rather all are able to play cards to influence the characters avaiable in each chapter.
I don't know. They mentioned that each character has their own deck of cards. But that's an interesting thought, given the mystery of that "Characters" section.
Really hoping it is a star wars themed gloomhaven.
That would be epic 😎
I don't think it will be as heavy as even Jaws of the Lion
Shut up and take my money 😊
Star Wars fan in general, or Mando specifically? Or maybe just a fan of Corey's designs? 😁
@@meeple while I surely have played some of Corey's games, my main motivation is the theme and I am happy that it's not focused on Luke Skywalker over and over again
@@goodsound4756agreed, I LOVE it when Star Wars games focus on characters other than Luke and Vader. Nothing against them, just there’s such a huge galaxy of characters to explore.
Im sold. So hyped! Can't wait! !
Looks neat! Glad to see a new Star Wars game on the way. I do hope it’s not like Gloomhaven JOTL, I’m pretty burned out by the mechanics there.
I don't think anyone is suggesting it will use the Gloomhaven style of card play, just that it's a campaign framed around a book.
Soooooo this looks GREAT, and as a big solo game, a co op looks perfect for me! Thanks for the detailed breakdown!
Glad to help!
I love SW board games, this looks fun
I'm also loving SW Unlimited. I'm going to a Tourney on May the 4th
Nice! Have you done any tourneys before?
@meeple, You should definitely take your hands on a prototype and make a play trough :)
I also noticed that the character cards are double-sided with one side showing 5 HP and the other one showing 7 HP + "Novice". Maybe we get 2 double-sided cards for each character? I wonder if you get access to a bigger card pool when leveling up that way or if it just affects the HP values.
I wanna play!
I'll definitely give it a try. It may end up being a lighter experience, but I'm still intrigued.
I have a feeling they missed to mention some mechanics of the game on the bgg site.
It sounds like there might be more details in a Polygon interview he did too!
This looks pretty cool. Interesting, I thought FFG had an exclusive license for Star Wars board game content. I guess it's either not exclusive, or The Mandalorian falls outside the exclusivity zone. This is a very FFG looking game though, from the type of game to the art direction and the graphic design, from the guy that used to be FFG's main Star Wars game developer. It definitely shows it's pedigree and will be interesting to see if Unexpected Games can do FFG style games better than FFG currently is (outside of their card games).
I was wondering about the license too. As far as I can tell, Asmodee actually holds the license. They acquired it when they bought FFG, and Unexpected Games is under the Asmodee umbrella.
When will you have a review?
We just filmed one!
