When Rina Cheema's son Karanbir went off to school in 2017, she had no idea that it would be the last time she would talk to him. Hours later, Karanbir suffered a serious allergic reaction when another pupil threw cheese at him. Severely allergic to dairy, Karanbir went into anaphylactic shock. But after being rushed to the hospital, he tragically never regained consciousness and died ten days later. Rina joins us today to share her heartbreaking story.

Ignorance doesn't equal innocence. That student should have been punished. I'm so over people not taking allergies seriously or saying people should stay home & eat. That's terrible.

Not enough people take allergies serious. Even well meaning people will cause harm at times. Touching others with allergens on your hands can be enough to cause a reaction. Condolences to his family.

@@beckenham2020might’ve known the other kid was allergic but may not have known the severity. When i mentioned this story to my sister she immediately said “that’s not how dairy allergies work, he must’ve died from something else then.” Nothing I said would’ve convinced otherwise. @@davidklein8252bf I doubt many students knew of his allergies unless he told people himself. Only people that would’ve known is the teachers and dinner ladies. I never ever had a teacher make announcements about other ppls allergies during assembly or something when I was at school 🤣 also, even if he DID know, I doubt he intentionally aimed for him. Unless he’s a psycho, no kid is THAT malicious and evil.

@@charlottemartin4715 she literally said in the video the kid that flicked the cheese at him was told he was allergic to it. It’s strange how people put these rose tinted glasses on when it comes to teenagers as if they weren’t teenagers themselves a once and know just how cruel and malicious other teenagers could be at that age.

The kid literally died. I get he didn't have any malice behind it but the consequences of his actions need to be punished. No one should be throwing food at people

  • @leamichelle3792

You cannot expect every person at a school to take care for your one special needs kid. You cannot expect the world to turn around your kid only. You cannot expect everyone who randomly gets in contact with your child to avoid everything which could with the slightest possibility affect your child. You cannot expect every person at his school to learn by heart the list with don'ts. Shall all the kids be forbidden to consume or even have with them any dairy products and whatever he is allergic against? At a school with hundreds of students he will probably not be the only special child. What if another child is allergic to water? So if a child accidentally spills part of his drink the allergic one could die? To me this cannot be the responsibility of my kid to avoid all theoretically possible risks for any other child at this school. If I eat cheese or nuts and another kid is affected by this it is not my fault. And nobody should tell my child it were responsible for another kid's health issues.

When we can take steps to protect someone, shouldn’t we? That’s where education comes in. Knowing there are those with life threatening allergies around means it’s helpful to be more careful. Saying “not my problem” doesn’t help anyone.
