This samurai costume is the combat uniform worn by top-ranking people such as generals and military commanders during wars.
In Japanese, it is called "甲冑/Kacchu" or "鎧/Yoroi". What do you think? Does it look cool? Or does it look heavy? Or can you fight in this? ...It may seem strange to you because it is a military uniform used hundreds of years ago.
Western armor made entirely of steel plates is also very impressive, but only a few people could wear it in wars. Other people were more mobile and soldiers of all countries fought in simple military uniforms, as you know.
The armor of Japanese military uniforms, which has been used for hundreds of years, seems to have been made lighter over time while maintaining its strength, but the total weight of general and average armor is said to be 10 to 15 kg, and the "大鎧 / o-yoroi / special armor" worn by important people is about 30 kg. Japanese men are small, so if a man weighing 60kg puts on o-yoroi he weighs 90kg. It must have been very difficult to move around.
When I was in junior high school, I wanted to join the kendo club, so I went to watch it. A friend showed me the kendo armor and let me try it on. The weight wasn't the only problem with the armor. The armor smells awful!! 💩～😱 I realized that I couldn't do kendo unless I got used to the smell, and I had a little doubt about wanting to join the kendo club. 😅😂
I think that old armor / Kacchu / 甲冑 probably smelled pretty bad too.
In the old days, there were no materials like chemical fibers and super alloys like we have today, so natural materials were used, and armor could not be washed. If they were washed, they could become deformed or shrink. Armor is partially made of leather and silk, which are not suitable for washing, and washing can cause the dye to come off.
If it was a choice between "smell" vs. "color fading," I would choose "color fading." However, if people back then did not have the financial means to replace their armor immediately if it became deformed or broken, they probably would not have been able to do so, and so the habit of "not washing" became established. In today's world, with advanced scientific and medical knowledge, there are ways to maintain hygiene without washing armor, but it is true that medical concerns remain. I'm sure that a better solution will come out in the future.
By the way, Japanese sumo wrestlers never wash their loincloths / 褌 / Fundoshi(廻し / Mawashi).
The fabric of professional mawashi is made of 100% silk, and children and students often use mawashi made of canvas (cotton or linen). They do dry it in the shade on sunny days, but they never wash it in water. 👀!🤔
Again, the main reason is that washing it will damage the fabric of the mawashi. However, it seems that the custom of not washing the mawashi spread due to the belief that it is a good luck charm and that "the sweat that has soaked into the mawashi during competition and training should not be washed away."
A former sumo master gave his apprentice his mawashi as a gift to celebrate his promotion. The apprentice was delighted. 😍👍🏻
When the master appeared as a commentator on a sumo program, he shared this story, and everyone, including the announcer, was concerned that "he would give someone a loincloth that hadn't been washed!? Is that okay?" 😱
When the announcer asked the master, he replied, "Nowadays, there is a way to wash mawashi, so I washed it before giving it to them." Everyone who heard this felt relieved and smiled at the same time. 😁😂😊👍🏻
PS : I'll share another anecdote related to sumo. ☝🏻🥸
When the sumo referee / 行司 / Gyouji, who decides the outcome of a sumo match, steps into the ring, he wears his full referee uniform, points at a real wakizashi / 脇差し (short sword) along with his military leader's fan / 軍配 / Gunbai, and steps into the ring / 土俵 / Dohyo. The referee is prepared to commit suicide if he is unable to judge the outcome of the match. This may seem like a lie, but it is true. 🤔👍🏻
The spirit of this referee is based on the same thinking that comes from the "spirit of the 侍 / samurai and 武士 / Bushi /warriors." And this spirit is still passed down to the present day.
In Japan today, it is illegal to carry or possess dangerous objects such as guns and swords. If you properly identify yourself, provide a reason for having it, and submit a formal application to a government agency, you are allowed to have it. So the referee applies for it and carries a wakizashi.
There are ranks among referees, and the top ones are people who, like sumo wrestler Yokozuna, have dignity, knowledge, and an eye for discerning the outcome of a match. In Japan, 横綱 / Yokozuna attracts a lot of attention and popularity, but it is the "行司 / Gyouji / referee" that Yokozuna respects and always has respectful dealings with.
If there were people like this referee in ordinary human society too, who could make judgments when disputes or wars broke out and everyone could follow the referee's judgments without complaint and with respect, I feel that we could reduce the number of unfortunate events in the world. 🤗

Some samurai helmets of famous Sengoku Warlords have an ornament on the forehead called a "maedate" 前立て: placed at the front. For example, dragonflies, centipedes, crescent moons, Kanji of "love": 愛etc. I think it would be interesting to look into these. 🙂

規約に抵触することを再コメントすることはできませんが、それ以外の大切な内容は確認して、コピー＆ペーストすることができます。
私がアイコンのデザインなどの興味が惹かれる理由は、伯父が芸術家だったので、その刺激を少しだけ受けて、デザイン性や芸術性につい、目が行きがちです。👀😅
伯父が自分の作品に用いたモチーフには象形文字や漢字、昆虫を含む生き物などもあり、その由来や理由などにも興味が湧くのですが、本格的に勉強したり、研究したりはしたことが無いので、個人的な豆知識に留まっています。

どう考えても、コメントでBANは滅多に起きないので、その原因がわからないと怖いですね。😨

いや、ただ単に私がアホだっただけですw お兄さんの時間の方のしゃぶしゃぶ作りとお菓子等の動画に、何度も繰り返しコメント貼ろうとしたからです。スパム扱いされたのだと今は理解しました。ユヨマートへのリンクを含んだコメントを投稿したら、一旦投稿完了するんだけど、数秒から数十秒でいつの間にか消えてしまう現象が続いて。それを何度も繰り返したので。もしかしてリンクがダメなのか？と感じて、その部分を外して投稿しても、また同じで。理由が分からずでバグってるのか？とか、或いは連続で投稿しようとしたから、消されてるのか？とか。翌日まで待ってから、また投稿してもみましたが、やはり数秒後に消えてしまう現象が続きました。きしむ椅子の方でも同様でしたが、ある時比較的新しい動画へコメントしたら投稿がちゃんと残りました。先日コメント返してもらったのが、それです。しかし次の日アカウントごと消えてましたw リンクが駄目なら、警告表示とかメールとかしてくれたら、ダメな理由がはっきりするんだけど、そういう通知は何もなくて。いきなり凍結されてました。
このようなことが起こって本当に申し訳ありません。 🙇
